Are Mainers ready to approve a casino?


Petitioners have submitted to the state what they claim are 100,000 signatures in support of a referendum on a casino in Oxford County, well more than the 55,000 needed to force a vote. Will Mainers buck the trend of recent votes and approve a casino, if the vote is held in November? Should they? Will the poor economy favor a yes or a no vote?

Speaking for myself, I would support a Casino in Oxford County or Washington County; no other locations need apply. I wouldn't go to them but I fully support those who want to. If the major business in Maine is tourism then we need something to attact tourist.

No, Mainers will not approve a casino in Maine in 2010.

And Black Bear Entertainment (the Oxford County casino folks) submitted fewer than 96k signatures to the Secretary of State's office, all obtained through paid signature collectors. Far, far fewer than 96k (but more than 55k) will actually be validated by the S.o.S. when the final analysis is done.

so i guess bangor should be the only one.....come on....I am all for Washington County as well but finacially it would have never worked!!! This proposal is sound

No. The petition only allows for a casino in Oxford County. The language of the referendum is not good for the people of Maine. Casinos should have real coin operated slots. The electronic types are boringggg. No Coin-ops On Casinos
