Investigators await woman’s autopsy


Spokesman: Death likely of natural causes

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Investigators said they are awaiting autopsy results before they determine the cause of death for a woman found Tuesday afternoon in Skowhegan.

Police Chief Michael Emmons said his officers called the state police’s Criminal Investigation Division after a 2 p.m. report of a medical emergency at a 24 Winter St. residence. Police found the woman’s body inside.

Emmons would not say what factors caused officers to question whether the woman’s death was natural or the result of foul play. He said he awaits the results of an autopsy scheduled for today at the medical examiner’s office.

“We’re not going to release any information at this point,” said Emmons. “There is no danger to the public.”

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland told the Bangor Daily News on Wednesday afternoon that detectives now suspect the woman died from natural causes.

“There’s no indication at this point of any foul play,” said McCausland, though state police investigators also are awaiting the autopsy results.

Emmons and McCausland declined to release any more information, such as the woman’s age or whether she lived at 24 Winter St.

Somerset County dispatcher logs show that at least six officers from various agencies spent up to nine hours at the scene on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Emmons said there was no connection between this case and the stabbing death of a Troy man in Skowhegan on Christmas Eve.
