MMA training cruise takes students to Europe

By The Associated Press

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy's training cruise will take students this summer to Germany, France and England.

The 500-foot State of Maine departs Castine on May 4 for a two-month cruise will make stops in Marseille, France, Kiel, Germany, and Portsmouth, England.

The academy likes to mix it up. Last year the training cruise went to Puerto Rico and Canada.

Captain Larry Wade of Bradley, Maine, says it's important for students to get some international experience since Maine Maritime Academy graduates "are responsible for much of today's global trade transport."

Great fun ! Had a blast last year when the ship docked in Rockland to pick up friends and family.

Castine residents are always pleased when MMA leaves the dock for a training cruise........
