Neighbors’ tips lead to drug bust, arrests

DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — An assortment of prescription pills, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia, along with a small amount of marijuana and what is believed to be cocaine residue, were confiscated late Monday afternoon from a Harvey Street home that police and neighbors had suspected was a “drug house.”

Dover-Foxcroft police arrested Joseph Taylor, 31, and Myles Antz, 27, both of Dover-Foxcroft, and charged them with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. They also charged Brandon James, 20, of Charleston with possession of a usable amount of marijuana. All three are expected to make their initial court appearances on the charges on March 22 in Dover-Foxcroft District Court.

The matter is under investigation and more charges may be filed, according to Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Dennis Dyer.

Acting on information from local residents, who suspected drugs were being sold at the home based on the “stop-and-go traffic,” the Police Department had placed the home under surveillance.

“This was an ongoing problem in that neighborhood,” Dyer said Tuesday.

With the help of Investigator Dave Wilson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department, Dyer placed the home under surveillance. A video camera helped capture the comings and goings of people to and from the house, Dyer said.

“In the 38 years I’ve been doing this job, I realized there was a drug problem in Dover-Foxcroft, and this just shows the citizens what is going on and that it’s moved to a higher level of drugs,” Dyer said.

“As a law enforcement officer, I feel we all have to work together to solve these problems and I commend the Harvey Street residents for coming forward with the information,” Dyer remarked. It is going to take a partnership with the community to help ferret out such illegal activities, he said. Anyone who sees suspicious activity should contact their local law enforcement officials, he said.

Way to go. Congratulations to the Piscataquis County Sheriffs Department and to the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department. Our local community should be proud of our officers. It's nice to see the 2 departments working together to solve crime. keep up the good work.

Morons like this always think they're so much smarter than everyone else. They didn't think the neighbors NOTICED all the "stop and go traffic".

Thought they were being so cool about their activity...really flying under the radar. Makes me laugh.

john_rambo are you in your right mind or have you been to their place?

There isn't a day that goes by that we don't read a story of druggies or dope users.......common trash.....you get what is coming to you...losers

tracable amounts. That must be huge for dover-foxcroft. did the drug pimp with the bugatti waltz in to drop off several hundred pounds of stuff? keep an aeye out. they got AWD and v16s. The chief and his 38 years need a rest. I won't be forgetting that chief anytime soon about a false arrest or two....great job chief. where is the big town politics going to carry you now...Imagine getting an apology by a judge after the chief makes his big move personally....have a great life chief. You sure as hell bothered many others.

31 years old and 27 years old, how embarrassing for THEM!!!!

what a life to look back on - it makes us hard working law abiding citizens SO SO SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!! - NOT

They aren't embarrased. Embarrasement goes out the window as soon as you enter the drug culture. Along with pride, ethics, honor, etc. The funny thing is that everyone of these people will rat each other out in a heartbeat if they think they will get something out of it.

im so mad...i will rant all day about this...its NOT a good job when these idiots have been selling drugs for like 5-6 years and the whole town knew about it!!!! i dont even do drugs and i know who the dealers are. its a small town!!!

Hey Irishproud, why don't you stop being an ignorant piece of crap. ANYTIME drug dealers and users are off the street, kudos to those who were involved! Maybe you could have said something constructive like "It's great to see the citizens and police working TOGETHER!" But no, you have to take a successful story about taking drug dealers off the street and make a dumb comment. EXCELLENT JOB citizens and police!!!

good deal! its about time these two ended up like this. good on the neighbors, and good on the DFPD/PCSO for finally getting enough testicular fortitude to go bust them.

All aldults should be able to use whatever substance they would like. We don't need a government trying to keep us in line. Government and neighbors, mind yer own business.

If there is a crime committed under the influence of drugs, then there is a crime and the law whould step in. Using any substance i want is a god given right that is no one's business but mine.

earlysunrise is a little sensitive here. Perhaps he/she is having an affair with one of the blind piggies? Maybe he/she is one? Regardless you cannot change the fact that these ignorant cops should made this thing go down a long time ago. Maybe the citizens should get a cut of this weeks piggie paycheck? We dont need law enforecemtn at all if they are going to be this ineffective.

letterreader- are you kidding? lets just get rid of all laws cause we dont need no stinkin rules! Government and neighbors mind our own business? Yeah, i want my kids to grow up next to the crack house with tweakers and druggies alike..... ill just turn a blind eye to them and say 'its none of my busniess where my kids found that baggie of drugs'. best park, IF there is a crime committed?!? 9 times out of 9, most people who are under the influence want to do something that will make them think they are having fun, like driving, lets not prevent that, but encourage it? pffft....

if you really have a problem, you should move out of country, cause i dont see you 'god given rights' changing anything anytime soon..... but hey, ill turn my head and pretend like you dont exsist..... cause your lack of common sense is none of my business!

Excellent comment VoiceOfReason. There are obviously some drug users and dealers here that are dissapointed that their low-life friends finally got caught...and they may be next. As for Irishproud...get a life! What were you, some wannabe cop that couldn't make or handle it?

TheVoiceOfReason: a little heavy on the over blown emotionalism, very slight on the facdts. In Nazi Germany, we had neighbors turning in neighbors. What one person wants to put into their body is their right to do. The state has no compelling reason to butt in. Like i say, if there is a crime involved, then go get em.

No, i don't use any substances and i don't deal in them either. Yopu are talking a victimless 'crime' here. You don't want to use? well, don't but you will never ever ever EVER stop those who want to from using. You are making them criminals when they are simply not too smart users.

Get off the emotional response and use your reason

If you knew, why didn't you step up 5-6 years ago??? You should feel guilty all day, not rant about others...

AS I SEE IT, by Mainer Mike Brown

I'm glad that the citizens of Dover-Foxcroft decided that they had had enough of these dirtbags conducting criminal acts in their backyard.

But I'd keep a low profile if I were a part of reason that they were arrested.

CALLED ON THE SHERRIFFS DEPT TO HELP THEM. ITS STUPID TO EVEN HAVE A POLICE DEPARTMENT IN A SMALL TOWN LIKE DOVER WITH THE SHERRIFFS DEPARTMENT STATIONED THEIR, HIRE A COUPLE MORE DEPUTIES AND LET THEM HANDLE IT AND SAVE THE TAXPAYERS A BUNLE OF MONEY. ANOTHER ADVANTAGE, IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE CHEIF YOU CAN ALWAYS VOTE HIM OUT AND THIS GIVES THE CITIZENS MORE POWER THEN THEY HAVE NOW.

I am REALLY surprised that Melissa SPinney wasn't in on this....she has her nose or something up her nose all the time! lol

yea.. Denise tyrell... i mean dyer n the boys are wheeel maart n so tough too! when i grow up i wana be like them! hahaha not! And nice bust to, cus you found so much. Its so nice to be able to sleep at night knowing denise tyr...dyrr... w.e his name is, is doing such a fine job aprrehending these big kingpins like joe girly. give him a break brothers just shut down n he was only trying to feed his kid and keep a roof over his head. good job boys! i hope you FEEL like you accomplished something, cus you didnt chiao dave wilson

To letterreader: learn to spell before you decide to challenge someone else's comments. As far as this being a 'victimless' crime...are you serious??? These dirtbags were DEALING, not just using, so there's your crime right there. I'm sure these good people were very tired of wathcing this happen in their neighborhood. And bringing up Nazi Germany? What's up with that? How disrespectful to the citizens of Harvey Street.

im glad letterreader is disrespecting that old bit** in the trailor next door. she just gave joe up, cus he wouldnt sell his hypodermic needles to her

letterreader.... emotional response? or common sense? your one track mind seems to think emotional as well then. you basically said, 'the government cant tell me what my god given rights are.' and I am the one thats emotional? and whats with bringing up Nazi Germany? last i checked, our government helped with bringing Nazi Germany down, i mean, i could be wrong on this fact. but... .isnt that the same government you want to 'stay out of your busniess?'

and i know what your gonna say, 'blah blah blah, something about a crime not being involved... blah blah blah, neighbor turned them in... blah blah blah, its our god given right to do what we want to ourselves'. yeah your right, it is our god given right to be dumb as hell and put ILLEGAL substances in our body. Its also the neighbors god given right to call and say, 'hey, i think these kids are pushing drugs'. and guess what, last time i checked, ILLEGAL drugs are.... ILLEGAL! (which is a crime in some 52 states)

Where is the evidence that these two or three were dealers? The article states they were arrested for "unlawful possession of scheduled drugs", NOT intent to sell or distribute. There obviously wasn't enough evidence to charge them with dealing. An "assortment" of prescription drugs could mean five or six different pills, and doesn't exclude the possibility that some of the drugs were actually prescribed to the accused. Drug paraphernalia, "suspected" cocaine residue, again, RESIDUE, a "small" amount of marijuana. Doesn't sound like "scumbag" drug dealers to me; sounds like drug users who need treatment, not condemnation. Many of the comments I am reading don't seem to be based on what the article states happened, and don't forget that just because it's in the paper doesn't neccessarily make it true. There is ALWAYS more to the story.

Waste of tax payers money. Next time you might want a little thing called "evidence". Sounds like a bunch of nosy small town neighbors let their imagination get the best of them and suspected these two were the Pablo Escobars of Dover. Get real people. Let's set up surveillance on the next door neighbors and make sure their inspection stickers and registration don't go a day past due !

hey lot2say...the police knew...they have been told...its just NOT a prioroty

knowthetruth and TJK04T : you both have made balanced assessments. I would like to add: just because the government seems to think they have a right to dictate to me what i can and cannot put into my body does not make it their business. YES, i realize that the pot found there was illegal but that does not mean the law is legitimate. You don't like pot? Don't use it. The rest of the story was nothing but innuendo. Neighbors should mind their own damned business. Sounds like a bunch of little school girls tattling.

They arrested a couple guys that like to smoke pot and play xbox , thats tax dollars at work . I'm sure the time and effort could've been put to better use arresting real dealers . I cant believe this even made the paper . Lets see if there is an article when they pay a couple hundred dollar fine for the almost no evidence that was found.

letterreader wow i actually think you are dumber than them. We dont need a government trying to keep us in line?????// hahahahhahah your a idiot. YES WE DO. If there was not a government or laws this country would run rampant with murders and drug dealers. seriously guy or girl you are about the dumbest person i have ever ever came across. A victimless crime????????/ are you kidding me. Anytime drugs are involved there is always a victim. What about the 5 year old boy or girl sitting at home while their parents pop these pills that they bought from those kids. Those children arent victims?? Or what aboutt he infant who is crawling on the floor and discovers one of these pills. I guess they arent victims either? some of those scenarios might sound a little drastic but it happens alot. So before you go stating that poeple need to get their facts straight, you might want to take a look at the BS you are posting, and get your facts straight FOOL. also lots2say yes it is a good job, yes it took how many years but law enforcement cant catch everyone all the time. These people are put away.

I live in Dover-Foxcroft and am the mother of 4 children. I am very glad that the PD and SO busted these two. I don't care how much was found there. They deserve to be busted. The comment about them wanting to just play x-box and smoke pot are ridiculous! Grown men should not be playing x-box. They should be working. Also, the comment about selling drugs to support a 5 year old child are ridiculous. I hope DHHS takes that kid away and gives it to a relative. That kid deserves a better parents than someone whose priorities in life boil down to doing drugs and playing x-box. Don't even get me started on the selling of drugs. I think all drug dealers should be dropped in the river with a cement block tied to their ankle.

ROFLMAO....Must be real bad up there if they're big dealers...Sounds more like a nieghborhood dispute...Was Barney Fife allowed to put his bullet in his gun for the arrest ??? LOL...Must be a REAL slow news day for that so called bust to make the paper....

Thanks again to the boys in blue!

Common sense prevails here...

1st paragraph: An assortment of prescription pills, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia, along with a small amount of marijuana and what is believed to be cocaine residue, were confiscated.

4th paragraph: the Police Department had placed the home under surveillance.

6th paragraph: A video camera helped capture the comings and goings of people to and from the house.

For those who have had their illegal morning smoke, illegal drug filled hypodermic needle and snort of coke... maybe that'll help you put things in better perspective. This was more than 2 guys who liked their pot and this, I'm sure, is just the beginning of a much larger picture. The beginning of what's to come for the bigger guys. When you have people like this living next door to you, it is your business... IT's ILLEGAL!!!

These guys are a danger to society, they're driving on our roads, selling drugs to our kids and are contributing absolutely nothing to society in a positive way. They're creating more drug addicted people, who also are contributing nothing to our society, and they all are a strain to our already burdened welfare system.

Once addicted, these ADDICTS rob and kill people to get their next fix. The addicted women who bare children, end up having babies who are also addicted, and those babies end up having to have long term care. These kids also have learning difficulties when they enter school. Who pays for that... YES... the tax paying citizens!!! So, YES, it is everyone's business if you're using illegal drugs!!! These folks don't make sound judgements, good parents, nice neighbors, good sons/daughters/mothers/fathers/ or friends and they aren't trustworthy or reliable as long as they are using.

If they were in their right minds and being good neighbors, do you think anyone would have noticed the things that were going on and reported it? No, of course not. Obviously, there was a lot of activity going on... RED FLAG!! HELLLLOOO!!!

Kudo's to the PD and Sheriff's Department!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Although I haven't read through ALL the comments, I'm sure SOMEONE has already pointed out to a person or two who have commented on this story that there is no such thing as a victimless crime. There is a consequence to every action, there is a victim for every crime. Directly or indirectly, it makes no difference.

More ordinary citizens should report these incidents.

Alas, it took Dyer 38 years, but the war on drugs has been won. Move along...nothing to see here...

The war on drugs has failed.

The drug problem is getting out of control in Maine. And what makes me more furious is to hear about people getting prescription drugs paid for by Medicaid and selling them on the streets. This happens all the time here in Maine. Then people who really need medications can't get them. There are known drug houses all over this state. Go get them all.

These two are losers and always have been.....they will always be a drain on society.
