AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine motorists are paying more to register their vehicles with the state.

As of Monday, fees increased by $10 for vehicle registrations, vanity license plates and titles.

Don Cookson of the Secretary of State’s Office said the added fees would generate revenue to support bridge and road maintenance.

The increases stem from legislation earlier this year to raise $160 million over four years to upgrade and preserve Maine’s bridges.

To pay them off, motor vehicle registration fees increase from $25 to $35, titles rise from $23 to $33, and vanity plate fees jump from $15 to $25.

To the wonderful people of Maine...now hear this! The upgrade in fees for titles, vanity plates and general vehicle registrations should not come to a shock to the vehicle owners of Maine. They are much in-line with the rest of the US...maybe lower in most cases. The fees are also corresponding to the same vehicle registration, licensing and titling fees we have in the Philippines! At least those fees the Mainer's will be paying out will be procured for viable and much-needed road and bridge repairs and special charities such as animal welfare (adoption) programs and the such. You will see results from the generation. But here in the Philippines, where 45.00 Peso is equivalent to 1.00 US dollar, the price differentials are significant. In Maine, count your blessings...you see just where your money will go. Here in the Philippines, 90% or more of vehicle registration fees go straight into the pockets of the bureaucrats involved in the Land Transportation Office, the entity directly responsible for titling, registration and vanity plating.

And add to that the "excise tax" we pay every year ....

What makes no sense is that didn't the people of Maine already aprrove another bond issue that was suppose to fix the bridges. AAnd now another reason to raise our taxes.

State Of Maine = Thieves
