CAMPAIGN 2008
Wrong phone listing leads to sex line
By The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine - Callers looking for a Maine congressional candidate's campaign office are instead directed to a phone sex line, thanks to a phone book mistake.

The latest Talking Phonebook for the Portland area lists a toll-free number for Republican 1st District candidate Charlie Summers' campaign office in Saco.

But when people call the number, they are greeted by a woman's voice inviting them to call another toll-free number, which turns out to be phone sex line.

Summers told WGME-TV that the Talking Phonebook picked up one of his old campaign numbers by mistake.

A Talking Phonebook spokesman said the company will remove the number from its Web site and from future editions of the paper phone book.

Surely a mistake(!)

My 70 year old mom was given a number by her docs office to call an insurance company and it was a sex line #...my mom freaked out...I even tried the number to make sure she didn't dial incorrectly...My poor old fashioned sweet mom, she couldn't believe her ears and could't beileive people were "STUPID enough to pay to listen to that junk."

Ok. Ok. Now I see it. The "phone book mistake" was made by a relative of the person who made the serious error with the State of Maine school test, which had to be "scrapped". I guess there are no post-checks and verifications done any more on peoples' work.

What was that phone number again?
