Rockland appoints interim city manager

ROCKLAND, Maine — With the acceptance of City Manager Tom Hall’s resignation, effective Oct. 10, the Rockland City Council expects to name Terry Pinto as interim city manager.

The City Council is expected to confirm Pinto’s appointment at the next council session on Oct. 6.

“We are delighted to have someone on staff with the experience and knowledge of city issues to keep [Rockland] moving forward while we search for a new city manager,” said Mayor Hal Perry, who called Pinto the “right person for the job.”

Pinto has worked for the city since 2000 as the director of the wastewater treatment plant. He also has been heavily involved in various community development and beautification projects over the years, Perry said. Before working for Rockland, Pinto had held a number of public sector positions in New Jersey and Florida over a 25-year career.

“I am flattered that the council has the confidence in me to consider me for this important position,” said Pinto. “I know the staff and the issues facing the city and expect to continue the tradition for excellent services to the citizens. My goal is for a seamless transition for the staff, the council and the residents.”

Hall said Pinto would continue to administer his duties at the treatment plant.

The City Council has retained a consultant to assist in the search for a permanent city manager. The position is advertised with applications due by Nov. 3. The council hopes to select a new city manager early in the new year, said Hall, who is leaving his Rockland post after nine years to become town manager of Scarborough.
