ETNA, Maine — Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a local man Monday night after finding more than 7 pounds of commercial grade marijuana in his car and at his home, division Commander Darrell Crandall said on Tuesday.

Shawn Plante, 27, who lives on Stage Road, was stopped for a traffic violation at around 8 p.m. on Main Street in Bangor by Bangor police officers.

“A Bangor police canine indicated the presence of drugs,” and the MDEA was called, Garry Higgins, supervisory special agent for the Bangor-based North Central Regional Taskforce, District 5, said Tuesday.

Six pounds of packaged, commercial grade marijuana were found in the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer Plante was driving. Plante was arrested and a search was conducted at his home in Etna.

“MDEA agents executed the search warrant at about 11 p.m., seizing an additional 1.25 pounds of marijuana and evidence identifying the source for the marijuana,” Crandall said.

A digital scale, disguised to look like a CD case, also was recovered.

The pot taken as evidence is estimated to have a street value of more than $14,000.

Plante was charged with felony trafficking in marijuana, a Class C offense, and was taken to Penobscot County Jail. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Plante had his first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Tuesday and was released on bail, a jail official said.

He is scheduled to appear in Penobscot County Superior Court to face the charges against him on Oct. 31.

“The investigation will continue with additional charges possible,” Crandall said.

Where does the seized Mary J go? Does the DEA donate it to those in need of it for medicinal purposes, or is there a big "BONg Fire"?

$14k? What a joke.

A routine traffic stop? That is what they would like us to beleive. This has informant written ALL over it! Where does the pot go? Supposedly to an incinerator or bonfire.

Routine traffic violation. Or a rat?? You decide!!

Six pounds of pot is worth $14,000. !!!!! Awful expensive habit that can actually kill you sooner or later. I am glad they caught this idiot.

WHO CARES IF IT WAS A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP OR A RAT UNLESS YOU ARE THE PERSON ARRESTED!?!?!? I SAY COUDOS, GET THE S$%T OFF THE STREET. IT IS TAKEN TO AN INCINERATOR. $14,000 A JOKE, YOU ARE FREAKING KIDDING ME... THAT IS QUITE A BIT... YOU MUST MAKE AN AWEFUL LOT OF MOENY TO THINK 14K IS A JOKE. IF THIS GUY MAKES 14K A WHACK SAY A MONTH... HE WOULD BE AVERAGING 728K A YEAR... IS THAT A JOKE.. GET HIM OFF THE STREETS AND IN JAIL..

OUTSIDEOVSERVER "Does the DEA donate it to those in need of it for medicinal purposes," OH THAT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA.. WHAT IF IT WERE LACED WITH SOMETHING... CAN YOU SAW LAWSUIT???

Makes sense to me, then noone would be harvesting their own.

One word.....LEGALIZE. And LincolnMOM: pot is not as lethal as you think, less so than cigarettes or alcohol. You probably burn yourself, just don't want the neighbors to know, mommy's little helper does wonders for stressed out parents!

Cherry, now your going to have the child services looking for you. LOL l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pot is a stimulant and to someone with high blood pressure or a bad heart... it SURE can possibly cause death!

Oh and Cherry....NO I have never tried the stuff, I care too much about my health and the health of my family. FURTHERMORE...there are many other important things in life to spend my money on. POT SMOKERS are selfish....taking money away from feeding their families and heating their homes...then they have to beg the state to help....doesn't make sense to me!!! If you are a stressed out parent...try exercise or hug & kiss your family more..no need to waste your money.

And you know what they say about women that smoke don't you?

Infertility problems.......

Sorry I meant 14x 52 is $168k a year

FYI: I am child services! LOL so no need to worry about anyone knocking on my door. And, like anyone really believes, you LincolnMOM, you've tried it, I can tell by the anger in your post, you are so offended that you can't possibly admit that you've at least tried it and you probably liked it and you probably can't wait till the kiddies get on the bus so you can take a little toke to start your day, along with your morning coffee! Unless you are so concerned with your health that you don't do any drugs like caffeine and don't eat any bad food like McDonald's and use only organic produce, no additives, no preservatives, no pesticides etc. etc. right? yeah, right! Well, back to my selfishness and saving the world! peace and love

Don't know where the DEA buys their drugs, but at $10 a gram, that pot is worth more like $34,000 than $14,000. I wonder if it was from this year's harvest or last. Damn, that's gonna drive the price of pot up big time, guess we'll have to get LI-HEAP and visit the food pantries this winter.
