Man charged in Maine child sex case arrested in Maryland

By The Associated Press

FREDERICK, Md. — A Maine man charged with soliciting sex with a 12-year-old girl is back in custody, this time in Maryland.

Twenty-eight-year-old Alan Berk, formerly of Brownfield, Maine, was arrested this week after a concerned motel guest reported seeing someone acting suspiciously in the parking lot.

Authorities say state police in Maine were contacted in August by a man who had placed an Internet ad seeking odd jobs. He reported Berk responded and, through e-mails, eventually offered to pay to have sex with the man’s daughter.

Berk was arrested by police in Westbrook, Maine, but was released on $1,000 bail. The U.S. District Court in Portland later issued an arrest warrant for a charge of enticing or attempting to entice a minor for sexual acts.

No matter what tehnology is apparent or popular at the current time, people with mental illnesses such as this Alan Berk will always fine ways to sneak through the cracks of this technology and use it in such filthy ways. I'am glad there are laws to prevent...albeit caught...these individuals.

They need to bring this guy back to Maine and give him a nice stiff time in jail.

Ya, pcme, i get your drift. and agree with you.

Just cut the problem off !

maine doesnt give big sentences for child molesters/rapists! so hopefully maryland does!

The crime was committed in Maine, so he will be brought back to stand trial.

Castration and Amputation do not deter rapists. There are alot of other ways to penetrate a victim.

Rape is a crime of power, not passion. The perpetrator is turned on by the powerlessness of the victim .

It's important that we use this as an opportunity to educate ourselves and our children. I am sure Berk isn't the last child molester in the state.

Knine620, are you a LEO? If so, you should know that Berk committed/ was charged with the crime in Maine, and fled the state of Maine's venue. If the state of Maine chooses to, he will be extradited back to Maine to stand trial here. All the article says as far as Berk's actions in Maryland was that a motel guest notified police of someone acting suspiciously in a parking lot. Who knows if he will even be charged with anything by whichever Maryland authority picked him up.
