BAR HARBOR, Maine — A cruise ship passenger was arrested Thursday as he walked off the Caribbean Princess for being in the country illegally by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Saul Canizales-Osuna, 57, of Albuquerque, N.M., was charged with re-entry after deportation.
A citizen of Mexico, he appeared Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Margaret Kravchuk in federal court in Bangor. He agreed to be held without bail pending the outcome of his case.
In a routine review of the advance passenger information system, customs officials discovered the day before the ship docked that Canizales-Osuna was deported in June 1998 because he was considered to be an aggravated felon. He was convicted in June 1995 in Los Angeles for possession and-or sale of methamphetamine and of assault with a firearm, according to court documents.
Those convictions barred him from reentering the U.S.
He served about three years in prison and was deported on June 9, 1998, according to the affidavit filed Friday in U.S. District Court. He allegedly told ICE agents Thursday that he returned to the U.S. at the Tijuana, Mexico crossing the day after he was deported using his resident alien or green card as identification.
Immigration officials apparently mistakenly returned the card to Canizales-Osuna instead of keeping it when he was deported 10 years ago.
Court documents do not explain what he has been doing since then or give details about why he was on the cruise ship.

Maybe this time they will keep his green card. Why does it seem like he has been working on that cruise line ship and they just don't want to let that be known.

It was effective law enforcement this time that caught Canizales-Osuna. However, if this guy really wanted to re-enter the United States, it is too easy for him to acquire a new Green Card; immigrant authorization, and re-enter the United States and even obtain work if that card shows "Authorized to Work" on it. You can get a phony card almost anywhere along the border states, and even in Mexico, and they appear like the real deal. You can verify the validity of these cards, but a phone call has to be made to INS, Homeland Security or the US Social Security office to get the information. The system may put this guy in jail for 2 years or less and then deport him once again. Once again, we clothe, feed, pay medical and dental and comfort those here illegally, and continue to do so.

If he wanted to get into US without being caught, he should of crossed the border of Mexico like alot of other people. They come here and live without a green card and work for cash. That way there is no taxes or SS taking out. Plus they get free medical.

"cheriann"...another way they do this is go in the backdoor through Canada, as well, then slip across the border into the United States through the woods and mountains at the border states bordering our two countries. I have alerted the Homeland Security on one Filipino who attempted to do this. She was married to a man in Emeryville, California, and who also resided in the Philippines. Her mother was employed in the US, also in Emeryville, and her daughter, sister to the one I reported, married to a Mexican, also resided with the mother in California. The wife (now ex-wife) of this man, publically said that she is going to get into the US if it killed her, and go through Canada, where it is easier to get in. She never made it. She got caught at the airport by Philippine officials, had her phony identifications confiscated, and the Homeland Security confiscated and terminated her green card, which, we found out, the application ws also forged. We really should begin to be more proactive in dealing with illegals.

I live near El Paso, Texas and you don't know half the stuff that goes on with the illegals here!! They can deport someone today and tomorrow they are coming acrossed the isolated desert area. One young lady from way down south, paid over $5000 to someone to bring her across. She was taking care of children in a day care for cashmoney when she met a nice US citizen. She got pregnant and later miscarried. Immediately, she was put on food stamps, medicaid, free dental, housing. They also sent her to school to learn English FREE. All to some ome that never paid into the system!! Down hear if you don't speak Spanish, you don'y get a job,but I have been in professional offices where some of the workers can't speak English. If I go to take classes to learn Spanish, it costs me over $300 per semester. The free food programs are full of cars with plates from Mexico, there was one woman in Salvation Army with Mexican plates getting her rent, lights, home phone, cell phone, and her cable paid for her. They have more provided for them than we provide for our own citizens.
Also down here it is unheard of for a young woman to get married for the first time with no children. They thnk that every boyfriend that they have, the need to have at least one child. It is very coomon to see 16-17 year olds with four kids in tow!! Most of them are not US Citizens, but they are all on medicaid, food stamps, etc.
Now the government wants to give them Social Security without them being a citizen or working. I was in a horrible disabling accident on my way home from work---Social Security fought me for 3 years before honoring my request for benefits that I had paid into 17 years.
Look at the problems at the school in CA where they took th US flag down put the Mexican up. Most of the kids doing that are illegals. The schools registrations here vary by probably 30% due to the fact that parents are illegals, caught, deported, and come back to a different school because the schools have had reports that they were deported. They go to another school that won't know that they are illegals.
Come to TX, NM, AR and Southern California if you want to see how the illegals live better that the US citizens!!
