BANGOR, Maine — It seems her husband was simply the warm-up act.

Five days after Todd Palin spent the weekend campaigning in Maine, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will hold a rally Thursday at Bangor International Airport.

Palin’s visit was announced early Monday morning by the Maine Republican Party, which has been trying hard lately to convince voters that Palin and Sen. John McCain can win here.

“It’s fun to be a part of a battleground state,” said Rep. Josh Tardy, R-Newport, McCain’s co-chairman for Maine. “When we started talking the last few weeks about putting more resources in Maine, we meant it.”

If Todd Palin’s down-to-earth, snowmobile-riding personality played well in eastern Maine over the weekend, his wife’s folksy, working mother, moose-hunting affectations are likely to be just as popular, pundits say.

“I think it makes more sense to have [the Palins] here than Senator McCain himself,” said Jim Melcher, a political science professor at the University of Maine at Farmington. “She can probably energize the local party base and get people fired up in a way that [McCain] cannot.”

The Alaska governor already was scheduled to stop in New Hampshire on Wednesday, so a trip to Maine was not exactly a stretch. She is expected to fly into BIA early Thursday and speak at 9 a.m. at the airport’s maintenance hangar.

“We started issuing tickets Monday morning and so far we’ve seen enormous interest,” Jeff Grappone, McCain’s New England spokesman, said Monday afternoon. “Of course, hundreds of Mainers turned out to see her husband campaign, and we expect a crowd of thousands for Governor Palin.”

At the Maine Republican Party headquarters in Bangor on Monday, tickets were going fast.

“We’ll keep giving them away until they tell us to stop,” said Shelley Wirth, a volunteer and McCain-Palin supporter. “This is exciting for us.”

Joan Schoppe of Hermon and her husband, who are registered Republicans, received an e-mail Monday morning about Palin’s visit.

“I think my husband is her biggest fan,” Schoppe said while picking up her tickets. “I would have voted for [McCain] either way, but I think [Palin] sealed the deal for my husband. We’re really hoping they take the state.”

At the very least, McCain’s camp is hoping to win Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. Because Maine splits its four electoral votes, the Republicans could net one vote with a win in the 2nd District, which is typically the more conservative of the two.

Two polls taken last month showed Sen. Barack Obama with a five- and four-point edge in Maine. Christian Potholm, a Bowdoin College political science professor, however, pointed out that a public survey has not been taken in Maine since the recent economic crisis peaked.

“I’d be stunned if Obama’s lead was less than 10 points this week,” he said. “I think there were a lot of [Republican] jaws dragging a little after last week. But a week is a long time in politics and we have three left.”

Maine has a high percentage of unenrolled voters who may decide their choice in the next three weeks.

While the state has been abuzz with high-profile visits from the McCain campaign, Obama has yet to announce any surrogate visits to the Pine Tree State. Toby McGrath, Obama’s state director for Maine, said the Democrat’s focus is, and will remain, on the economy.

“The McCain-Palin ticket is offering more of the same failed economic policies that have caused home heating oil costs to skyrocket, retirement accounts to disappear, and jobs to be outsourced,” he said. “Barack Obama has laid out policies that will grow our middle class and strengthen the economy. That is the kind of change Mainers are looking for and need from our next president.”

Jessica Santillo, Obama’s communications director for Maine, also said the state campaign has a superior field operation that has been up and running since June.

“We feel good about our chances here,” she said.

Melcher agreed that the Democrats are in the enviable position of being ahead in many polls, in both battleground states and national surveys.

“They can be picky; they can play a little defense,” he said. “I’m sure they will send somebody [to Maine], but I don’t know that they need as big a name.”

Gov. Palin’s visit comes on the heels of her husband’s trip to Maine. Todd Palin spent Saturday and Sunday in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, holding events at the Moosehead Trading Post in Palmyra and at Harry’s Motor Sports in Presque Isle. He also made an impromptu stop at Dysart’s Restaurant in Hermon.

“He was very well-received,” Tardy said. “Certainly the sportsmen and women in the state and the citizens who value gun-owner rights feel like they have a lot in common with [the Palins]. And I think the reform message of Senator McCain and Governor Palin is one that really resonates here in Maine.”

Let's report the news, vs. spinning it, _BDN_?

Troopergate:

http://www.adn.com/troopergate/

McSame is a flaming misogynist; and Palin & beyond ignorant (as well as morally & ethically bankrupt).

He won't earn one electoral college vote in ME (CD#2 redneck base, nonwithstanding).

BILLIONS more in defense spending, deficits into the trillions for decades to come; (along w/unrelenting tax cuts for the wealthy) won't pass muster in economically deprived Maine.

Obama for Maine has thousands of GOTV grassroots volunteers on the ground (aside from staff/offices throughout Maine); and we're pumping the absentee ballots into the hopper at warp speed.

Take Sarah moose hunting somewhere Thursday (it's easy enough to find a tote road)--let's see her firearm proficiency skillsets....

"You betcha!"

Election time...almost 20 days and counting. Candidates need to get around the states to get a feel of the people's responses to issues and also for the candidate to get to meet and greet (if possible) people from each state. It becomes a whirlwind of passing faces, airports, words, shouts, claps, speeches, SUV's, planes and television and radio sound and video bytes. However, I'am positive tht Mrs. Palin's visit...all kidding aside from the earlier posting yesterday, will be rewarding to her campaign in some way, no matter how big or small it may be with her and Senator McCain. I'am sure she will get to see how warm Maine's folks really are in their hospitality...and I hope she will not forget her visit.

First of all mainefem, you talk so ignorant, second you couldn't come close to Sarah Palin; raising 5 kids, great mom and wife, successful governor of Alaska, etc. she's proven how she shaped up Alaska and when she gets to Washington she'll do it again.

Last thing i'm ashamed to have some one like you claim that they are from Maine, I suggest you read the comment that Johninphilippines.

McCainPalin08, everyone has an opinion and I guess we are all entitled to them. I am sure that alot of people around this country don't share the mean-spiritness that we have heard and seen lately....what I really hope for is that we all stick to these important issues that are plaguing this country. Aren't we all getting tired of the mud slinging....we are all desperately looking for answers not garbage. It is admirable that Mrs. Palin has raised 5 children and has been a decent mother and wife, but that doesn't mean that I would feel comfortable having her in office, especially if something should happen to Senator McCain,God forbid. I want someone in office who knows about all the things going on in this world not just what is happening in Alaska. That's not an easy task learning all that there is to know, and with the condition that this country is in we need someone who knows what they are talking about.

I agree with Johninphilippines and McCainPalin08, I love to hear people from other states say, those mainers really know how to be warm and show hospitality.

Just the other day i met a couple from Wyoming in a convenience store, they both agreed that Maine is beautiful and the folks are friendly, they also said they love the saying "Maine the way life should be".

Let's stop being so ignorant and grow up, I have heard so much about this and about that and when the truth comes out, the media has put a spin on it so people like mainefem have something to do for the day...attack people without getting her facts straight.....

The backbone of the Republican Party, George Will, Parker, etc.. see Governor Palin as the last nail in the coffin of McCain's campaign. They call for her to be dumped but she would have to drop out rather than be dumped to salvage anything now. Governor Charlie Crist, Tommy Thompson, Romney and every serious Republican see that pretending the campaign isn't over is not going to fool anyone, certainly not Maine.

mccain/palin08..................Did you vote for George Bush based on what a great Father he was raising twin girls? Motherhood IS NOT a QUALIFICATION for PRESIDENT ( which she will surely become as it's clear that mccaine is ill!)

A. Her oldest son joined the Nat. Guard to dodge consequences resulting from his, teenage vandalism. ( cut brake lines on school buses Good it was discovered before innocent children were injured!) NO COLLEGE EDUCATION.

B. Bristol is pregnant and has to get married. NO COLLEGE EDUCATION.

C. Poor Willow, Piper, and Trig are being dragged around in the campaign trail to REMIND US that SHE is a Mother. ( Why aren't they in school like the Obama girls?)Trig is always handed to Piper to carry and she can barely hold him she is so young. AND HE should be with a nanny, ( they are worth $ 2 MIL. surely they could afford a Nanny) Not exposed to all the noise, commotion, and lack of regular schedule!,

D. She has just BLATANTLY LIED ! SHe stated that she has been cleared of charges in the attempted firing of her ex-brother in law, instead firing Walt Monagan..BUT a BIPARTISAN panel found her guilty of ABUSE OF POWER!

ABUSE OF POWER IS WHY WE'RE WHERE WE ARE TODAY!

For the last 3 weekends, in Anchorage 1,500, -2,000, ANTI-PALIN protesters have turned out to protest her running for VP and when she loses, that contest , they will probably recall her from Governorship! ( Like Californians did with Gray Davis.)

Beyond that sarah palin doesn't have the educational skill s to even form a proper sentence in English. Neither did George Bush and look where that got us!

We need the best and brightest to bail us out of this mess...........not the one we'd like to have coffee with!

Sacurtis, exactly everyone has an opinion, just like yours, lol......what Palin has completed in her life thus far beats obama and biden.

When obama was up against hillary he disagreed with her on her views as well as she disagreed with him on his views, now they are teaming up together and obama is now eating his words, now he agrees with some of the things she said, and you want him as our President, wishy washy if you ask me....

Maybe Dick Cheny will come with her and he can take her hunting ...

All hail the beauty queen, She will solve the countries problems by dancing for us every Friday night, on TV, in her bathing suit, while she twirls her baton. It will get our minds off our problems and onto something else.

HermonStrout, don't put words in peoples mouths, i read what McCainPalin08 said, get your facts straight before you post, MccainPalin08 mentioned that she's a great mom and wife, i never heard them say that qualifies her for VP. Now what does qualify her is being a successful governor of Alaska, she has shaped up Alaska, tell me again...what has obama done besides hang out with Ayers, sit under a minister who hates America..shall i say anymore....Obama has admitted that he has been a friend of this minister for 20 years, they just showed it on CNN along with a recent picture of them together, come on people is this who you want for President......

HermonStrout, your post pretty much says it all. I certainly can't add anything to it. maineformccain, perhaps you need to get your story straight. Obama and Ayers worked together and served on a couple of committees. When Ayers was a radical, Obama was a child of 8. People trying to link them together as friends is pathetic. Do you want someone to think you're a radical because you may work with someone who used to be? McCain didn't do himself any favors by choosing someone for a running mate that has so much baggage. She's been found guilty of abuse of power. I'd say we've had enough of that the past 8 years. Then there's the fact her husband belonged to a political party that wanted to secede from the USA. Yep, that sure sounds like a family I'd want to have a step away from the White House. Did you see her two interviews the week before last? When she doesn't have a script of teleprompter to help her talk, she can't. She and McCain can't attack Obama on the issues, so they have tried to attack his character. It's backfired big time.

McCain Palin08, you seem to know alot about what the democrats and Obama/Biden are all about.....please share all the policies that McCain / Palin are promising to the voters of this country. Convence me that they are the ones to be put in office. Can you afford paying taxes on healthcare? Can the majority of people pay more in taxes? Especially in Maine? It seems to me that the well-to-do don't even understand what it's like to be laid-off and wonder how to support your family, paying for heat, food, shelter, gas to get around to find a job, clothing.just the basic nessessities. Yeah, you'll probably say live within your means....we did....but didn't make enough or were born into alot of money to be able to save for an emergency fund. Nor do I believe that the well-to-do even care.......why should these issues bother you.....you probably have enough money to pay for all the nesessities and then some. Can you imagine being/ living in someone elses shoes that doesn't have the same privliges that you might have?

Speaking of wishy-washy........McCain is always changing his tatics during his run for office, does he even know that some of the republicans are asking for Sarah Palin to step down........

Sunnie1959, I guess you missed CNN this past week, yes that's when he met Ayers is when he was 8, but come on he admits to sitting on the board with this guy in his later years, he changes like the wind, he claimed he didn't know this about Ayers and but when the heat was on he admitted that he knew this when he sat on the board with him but claims from that point on he didn't have much to do with him, he disagreed with hillary on several things, and now he changed his mind again and needs hillarys help..WISHY WASHY!!!!

Well here we go again I see the right... is out in force this morning...Last night David Gergen said and he's a Republican Don't ya know...that McCain need to get a hold on the crowds at he's rallies... and stop people from insighting villance....this a man we want in the oval office....how can he control the country if he can't control people at his rallies.

hey maineformccain when Obama was 8 he LIVED in Idonesia with his mother, and Stepfather .

Police had to escort the Palin campaign people out of sports cafe bar and grill in Orono sunday night, because college kids were threatning to kill them. Also, they were throwing pizza and hot wings at them...Ahhhhh Redneck Mainers. hahaha

Searoses, you are really sounding ignorant here, McCain stood up for Obama when the crows were yelling off with his head, did i miss something here, you are a Liar...McCains fans were upset with him because he told them to be respectful and he said obama was not all those things that they were yelling out....I don't like debating with liars and Searoses i have my facts straight, you are really giving the democrats a bad name!!!!

What I really want to know is, how many more stories on this is BDN going to publish? They take the same story like the Mechanical Gorilla, change the title, a word or two and publish it like it is new...isn't one article good enough? I believe there is other news out there to report on.

MEOW!!!!!! This isn't just a mud slinging.......it's a redneck poop-slinging contest.........hahahahahahaha......quick......duck........it's flying and landing everywhere!!! Hey everyone , have a great day......and don't forget to smile!

maineformccain ......It's againest the law to threaten to kill anyone..... I wouldn't want they saying kill McCain either insighting villance is not right...and it saddens me that the college kid did that to Mr. Palin and that's my point no one should be saying kill

Searoses, that's not the answer i was looking for, you insinuated that McCain is allowing his crowds to yell out off with obama's head. He has stuck up for obama. I need to ask the question, if the crowds at an obama rally was yelling hateful stuff about McCain, would obama stick up for McCain?

For a Presidential election, I am so disgusted with the way people are talking. Can we just get to the issues or is that now off limits????

If we ARE going to be slinging mud, how about the fact that as soon as Sarah Palin was nominated, it was crystal clear that her family and children were off limits (families/children of all the other candidates as well.............and should be), BUT why is she dressing up her young daughter and dragging her and her sister out on the ice at the Philly hockey game, knowing she would be booed. Who does that to their children???? So the rules now are use the children when it seems that they may advance you and your campaign, but do not mention them if they or their behavior doesn't suit the party? I was sickened by Gov. Palin using that sweet little girl as defense against the negative response that the campaign had already anticipated she would encounter. What's that alone say about her judgment?

I understand desperate times require desperate measures, but PLEASE keep the kids out of the forefront and let it be the candidates and issues!!!!! November 4 can't come soon enough, but then again, I've already voted :-)

yes sir he would and he has

I'm telling you - on November 5th, she's headed back to Wasilla & we'll never hear from her again.

Searoses, you're acting like obama here, you still haven't answered my reply to your posting, you're going around in circles. I will put them both below, please reply with accuracy this time.

Bangorian, please go back from where you came because you don't sound like someone from Bangor, Jealousy that's all i can say!!!

I will, once again, ask this question. DID ANYONE WATCH THE PRESIDENTIAL TOWNHALL DEBATE? If so, did you not notice that the left side of John McCain's face seemed to droop and not move. This is either a sign of a stroke or Bell's syndrome. Either are precursors to much more serious conditions. If Mr. McCain's age is an issue (which he made it one when he used it as "proof of qualification and ability") then so is his health. Do you realize that the Vice President is the second highest seat in the land? Do you realize that if the President dies, the Vice President becomes President? This is why Sarah Palin is not qualified to be running for this office. She has NO political experience except in "local politics". On top of that the Republican party has made a big thing about publicly stating "The Palins did no wrong in "Troopergate" and had every right to be worried about the Trooper". Well the Campaign people can spin it any way they want. The fact is the BI-PARTISAN COMMITTEE, which was formed and given the responsiblity of investigating this LONG BEFORE Sarah Palin was chosen, has found her guilty of ABUSE of POWER. That means there is a legal document proving the Republicans are the ones lying. IF someone is going to lie in the face of proof to the opposite, they don't show much intelligence. The least she could do is "stand up and face the music" at least that would be something for the good. Instead of hiding behind her children and the lies of the Republican Campaign Committee.

mainefem, have you read the book of Revelation recently? I strongly urge you to do that as soon as possible, like before you cast your vote.

maineformccain: I the first place I was trying to be civil.....I did hear David Gergen say that....people are so frighten about Obama... that there have been calls to kill being yelled from the crowd....I know Mr McCain asked them to stop...but what Mr gergen was saying that it is still happening...and McCain needs to get a hold it be more assertive with crowd control before thingsreally get out of hand....as I have said before...if the man didn't know that the consant use of the word terrorist would insight hate....when he opponant is a man of color.... he is out touch and if did then he is contemptible.... by the way I am a moderate I vote for who I fell will do the best job

You dern tootin he would Maineformccain. As McCain himself said Obama is a decent family man and citizen of this country. I for one am glad to see some old fashioned courtesy to ones political opponent entering this campain. I am for Obama but do not see McCain or Republicans in general as "evil". Just a man with a diffrent plan to lead the nation. So how about we dispense with all the fear mongering and half truths and vote on policy.

sickntired...well said! I am so disgusted with the ignorant comments some people are making!! Some people are actually suggesting that Sarah Palin should be shot!! I undertand those folks are looking for attention and I feel sorry for them. I have been reading the comments because I am interested ni hearing what ALL people have to say about this very important election. However, it is clear that the level of intellegent comments I have been longing for is missing! I think thre are some that are forgetting that we are ALL Americans. I worry there will be another civil war if this mentalirty continues!

I don't like Democrats any better than I like Republicans, but what if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late

1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

How how many innocent Vietnamese were killed by McCain in his 24 bombing runs?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Republicans have usually been against education because as Karl Rove said, "The more education a person has the more likely he is to vote Democrat.."

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world.

There has to be a reason that, in spite of the above, we are where we are today. Racism is one of the keys. Of course, there is a generous dosage of country-wide stupidity too.

I think Sarah Palin has you nuts a liitle nervous, I just heard that thousands of tickets have been passed out already.....yeah i know there's a few of you that approve of obama hanging out with ayers and should i mention acorn, give me abreak people i'd vote for Searoses before i'd ever vote for someone who sat under a minister for 20 years preaching how he hates America, Oh wait a minute, maybe you obama lovers or not truly blood born Americans..Yup that must be it..i rest my case...see ya on thursday, oh come on you'll be there protesting i'm sure!!!!

McCainPalin08...........just because Obama served on a committee with Ayers DOES NOT mean that Obama agreed with Ayers former policies.....what 8 year old understands that kind of garbage? I do resent that fact that you are calling us a bunch of nuts and insinuating that we are not truly blood-born Americans.....are you serious? You don't even know any of the people that you are writing to. I am still waiting to hear what McCain/Palins policys are relating to the issues facing this country! Does complaining about the canidates solve these current issues? Are you only going to scream and hollar and not answer the questions about the policys, just like McCain/Palin. Or are you going to tell us oh wise one, just what your canidates are going to do to fix this country? You seem to have ALL the answers......so I'm waiting lets hear it.......

WE NEED REPUBLICANS IN OFFICE IN MAJORITIES IF WE WANT SMALL BUSINESS, FREE ENTERPRISE AND THE RIGHT TO GUN OWNERSHIP. LET'S LOOK AT HOW ELECTED PEOPLE ARE LIKELY TO VOTE NOT PERSONALITIES. IF YOU THINK LARGE STRONG UNIONS ARE THE BEST ANSWER FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS AND YOU WANT TO SEE BUSINESS OWNERS BOTH SMALL AND LARGE CHOKED WITH HIGHER TAXES AND MORE REGS THEN VOTE DEMOCRATIC. YOU DO REALIZE THAT A LARGE GROUP OF DEMOCRATS WOULD LIKE TO SEE GUN CONTROL TO THE POINT THAT ONLY CRIMINALS WOULD HAVE GUNS. THINK ABOUT IT.

Watch out Bangor. The Hate Talk Express is on the way. Bangor's air will be polluted with Vile Hate Speech from Palin. Mrs Corruption herself will be spewing out the Hate.

Sacurtis, Go see Palin on Thursday if you truly want to hear what the McCain/Palin ticket are planning to do on these "issues" that you speak of. Why not go and hear it come straight from her mouth instead of what everyone else is saying. Don't say you can't, if you have time for this, i'm sure you can find time to go thursday, or maybe you don't want to truly hear it from Palin herself, maybe you'd rather hear it from the media, that's your choice. Hope to see ya there....

Oh thats rich McCainPalin08, for YOU to call anyone nuts. Why dont you tell us WHY you think your candidate is the best choice instead all this ridiculous banter you post?

Unfortunately, as you conitunously confirmed, most right-wingers are brainwashed, jingoistic ditto heads who mindlessly swallow all the propaganda they're spoonfed by the right-wing media and equate ANY criticism of the US, and particularly Republican politicians, with un-Americanism -- even if those criticisms are valid and warranted, and even if those politicians are leading the country down the pathway of destruction.

Anyone who contradicts them or who wants a government that works for the greater good is a Socialist! Anyone who prizes intellect and sound policies over charisma and personality is an elitist. Theirs is a simplistic world view where everything is black/white, good/evil, right/wrong, pro-American/anti-American.

It is these thin-skinned simpletons and their myopic views that have destroyed our once-great nation, along with our freedoms and civil liberties. Their willful ignorance and uninformed choices have inflicted far greater damage than any rag-tag gang of terrorists ever could.

Thank you PaleShadows! Finally the truth emerges!!!! As I figured.......McCain/Palin08....you are all talk and no action.........no wonder you are voting for those idiots....great minds tend to think alike!

Feeding the madness....the press has succeeded. Half truths and outright lies is how you win an election. Facts are not important when electing the most powerful person in the nation.

Fact - Ms. Palin is not running for President and those who believe that she will be president within the next four years are not McCain supporters. She is not the first politician to come to Maine and hideout at the airport either. She is a curiosity, people want to see what all the fuss is about - that's politics. She is not here to change your mind - she only speaks to crowds of believers. If you doubt this - put on a, Obama button and go to the Republican office (on Broadway) and ask for a ticket.

As for her running the state of Alaska? She has only been Governor for two years. A lot of the bills and accomplishments that she takes credit for was still on her desk from the last Governor. The people of Alaska elected her because of the "transparency and openness" that she exalted. She has proven again that she is just a politician - hide the truth, lie and cover up.

Rev. Wright may not be the ideal role-model we all think he should be, but at least Mr. Obama has acknowledged his disappointment. We have yet to hear from Ms. Palin about being blessed by a witch doctor (and yes, there is video). But she has incited the rhetoric that has caused audiences to believe that Mr. Obama should be killed. And when the comments were made she just smiled and continued reading her speech.

Mr. McCain showed poor judgment when he supported Mr. Keeting and when he chose Ms. Palin. Mr. Obama showed poor judgment when he chose Mr. Ayers as an associate.

As for ACORN - the Obama campaign hired them to register voters during the primaries only. If it is proven that fraud has taken place, the Obama campaign should file suit against ACORN. Statistically speaking, of the potential thousands of erroneous registrations, few, if any of these people show up to vote. So we may see registration fraud, but we rarely see voter fraud in the country.

Finally, yes I live in Maine. I vote in Maine. I have lived in Alaska. Most of my friends in Alaska will probably vote for McCain, because they do not want Ms. Palin to return.

Paleshadows, i would much rather vote for you and i'm sure your friends could tell me a few stories about you, But i'd rather cast my vote on you.

I'm an American, I love America, and don't give me the sob story that obama was only 8 when he met Ayers, he sat on the board with him when he knew about Ayers and still he continued to socialize with another American hater...I don't need to come up with a bunch of reasons why, those reasons i just stated are enough for me. I'M A TRUE BLOOD BORN AMERICAN.

I suggest if you want to really hear what Palin has to say, go on thursday with Sacurtis.

I've already heard what the media has to say why don't you get the real story.

Yes what i said about obama came from his mouth on a CNN interview this week, Obama said when he found out about Ayers he didn't socialize MUCH with him after that, the word is MUCH!!! Also he admits that his minister is his friend of 20 years, they showed a recent picture with obama and his minister, this is the minister that preaches on how he HATES America.

I will be voting for McCain/Palin 08 That's my right as an American, hopefully obama doesn't get in because we will start seeing our freedom being taken away, just like the example that Rock posted.....

McCainPailin08: I think that many of us have heard enough from Pailin after watching her dodge every question that was presented to her during the VP debate. The bottom line is that the lady has absolutely no clue. I wonder when the military asked General Petraus what type of foreign soil experience he had, if he answered with, "I can see Russia from the shore of Alaska"? Even as late as last week she got it wrong when she told a crowd that the U.S. bans oil exports to China. Yesterday, during a Republican rally she heckled some of her own supporters because she thought that she was being heckled. And, McCainPailin08, you haven't answered Sacurtis question about the policies that you support. If you truly were listening to the proposed policies, and not listening to the racial distortion from McCain/Pailin, then you would be able to answer this.

And, as for Obama being guilty by assosciation with Ayers, well I guess the same holds true for McCain with the Keating Five.

Maineformccain - what exactly are you suggesting that I'm jealous of? All I did was put Palin in perspective - she's not going to be the VP, because the Repulican's are going to lose this election. With that in mind, who cares whether or not she comes to Bangor to speak. Just because I don't share your views doesn't mean that I'm from away or (gasp) un-American.

Elmerfudd,

Keating five verses Ayers...come on give me a break!!!

So, sorry but no break. Hmmm, serving on a fundrasing board with a guy or being right in the middle of a major savings and loan scandal?

Obama is not responsible for their trangressions, nor is he guilty of anything, except for associating with these people. I guess he's guilty by association, then?

Also, being critical of certain US policies or whatever misgivings one may have about American society does NOT = anti-American.

Sarah Palin, with her divisive rhetoric and quoting of a known Fascist, along with the hate-mongering hooligans and bigots at the McCain rallies who shout *terrorist* and *kill him* are, frankly, much more worrying to me.

I'll support America elmerfudd, while you support Ayers, Acorn, and Obamas minister/Friend according to Obama.....

Since several of you (Rock in particular) have claimed that "we need Republicans in office" for "small business and free enterprise" to do well, let's just look at the facts (which takes all of 3 minutes on the Wall Street Journal website).

- When Clinton took office in 1993 Following 12 years of Reagan-Bush I presidencies), the unemployment rate was 7.3%. When Clinton left office eight years later, it was 4.2%. Bush II ("W") started with that 4.2%, rate, and it is now 6.1% (not including so-called "discouraged job-seekers) and rising. (Wall Street Journal).

- The $128 billion budget surplus that Bush inherited in 2001 has turned into a deficit of at least $407 billion this year (Washington Post), and if Bush's tax cuts for the rich are kept in place (as McCain proposes to do), that annual defict will hit more than $700 billion within the decade (Congressional Budget Office).

- Our federal national debt has nearly doubled in the past year, and is now over 10 TRILLION dollars ($10,282,198,802,770) and rising. This amounts to an effective debt of $33,722.43 for every American, a (from http://www.deficitsdomatter.org).

These are facts, not the prejudicial rantings of Hate Radio. What an unfair burdon to leave our children and grandchildren! What a drag on our national economy, and a serious impediment to the R&D needed to achive energy independence, rebuild our infrastructure, etc...

The critical issue around taxes for me is fairness, and the tax policies promoted by the GOP since 1980 that grossly favor multinational corporations over small bussinesses and the rich over working people are a major factor in why I am an EX-Republican.

PaleShadows, some of you made some pretty nasty comments here about Sarah Palin, and your democratic team had some t-shirts made up with some nasty stuff on them about her, so nasty that CNN couldn't show it on tv. Come on how come obama can't control his democratic party??Should I be frightened by you democrats acting this way? No of course not, But someone like Ayers and Obamas minister, don't try to convince me of what i heard Obama say himself!!!

Oh PokeyBo you were never a real Republican, just wishy washy like OBAMA!!!! Sorry but I just read your posting, you said it not me

Listen McCainPailin08 don't even go there. If you want to keep that type of rhetoric going then that only supports what many of us are pointing out about your lovely canidates spewing their hate and distorting the facts! I am as American as apple pie. Born and raised in Maine. So, I guess what you are saying with your silence to the questions about what policies you support, is that you have no clue much like your candidates?

Hey Elmerfudd that name suits you well, I agree with McCain/Palin08 just Obamas character and who he is willing to socialize with says enough, you want have to worry about policies when your freedom is taken away....So No don't you even go there.......

Why in the world was Obama so against Hillary????????

He is now eating his words and needs her help, I guess Palin has really got them worried, so they went out looking for a woman to be on thier side and needless to say...it's the woman they he disagreed with on all policies, so please elmerfudd explain this one to me.........the proof is in the pudding...

Well, maineformccain, your right it does suit me well. And, as for freedoms being thaken away well, I guess that we are pretty much already there because of McCain and his corrupt buddies George and Dick. Can we say four more years of the same failed policies?

I'm sure that the only thing that they are worried about Pailin is that she mistakes the big red button as her rifle trigger.

As far as disputing each other and each others policies......didn't McCain do the same with Romney, Huckabee, and Guliani? Remember, they all slander each other. The difference is that the Democratic party is standing behind their nominee while the Republicans are now questioning McCain/Pailin about how they are running their campaign.

After reading all of these posts, I have come to the conclusion that none of you have a life if all of you have time to to sit at your computers and argue with each other.

I have two reasons why I will not vote for Obama.

1. He has voted in favor of infanticide.

2. He has chosen to associate with unrepentant terrorists.

I do not want Obama as president with those facts known about him.

Sarah Palin is a person of character. She chose to continue her pregnancy when she knew that Trig had Down's Syndrome.

This is not the 1950's when if one was pregnant without benefit of marriage, a woman was "sent away" to avoid embarassment to the family. I myself have a daughter whose first child was conceived outside of marriage 12 years ago. However, my husband and I raised her with a value for human life. Today, Jenna is a very intelligent pre-teen young lady who is at her young age, making a difference in the world around her.

Let those who are without sin cast the first stone.

pseym4 where did you get your news from, was it reported in the BDN, local news? It seems to me if this were true, it would have been in the papers and/or on the news. Threats to kill are not taken lightly by the secret service.

This question is for all of you.

Why was Obama so against Hillary and he disagreed with her policies, but now he's asking for her help, he now says that he agrees with some of her policies oh brother can't you people see that he's willing to do and say just about anything to get in the white house....Becareful People. We might be having this debate and disagreeing with eachother but like Joe Lieberman said we are all one country that needs to stand together, Oh by the way Joe Lieberman is a democrat and his vote this election is for McCain/Palin

Oh, by the way maineformccain, Joe Lieberman is not a Democrat, so please check your facts, he is a independent.

NorthernGal: pseyme4 was correct. It was on the national news and the Secret Service is investigating it.

Oh elmerfudd maybe you didn't listen to Joe Lieberman on tv, Oh yes he's a democrat, so please get your facts straight...

Lieberman campaigns in Ohio for McCain

October 13, 2008

Email| Print| Single Page| Yahoo! Buzz| ShareThisText size – + COLUMBUS, Ohio—Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman is canvassing Ohio, telling voters to cast their ballots for Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Lieberman met with supporters Sunday at a Cup O'Joe coffee shop in Bexley, a Columbus suburb. He told Ohioans not to base their votes simply on party affiliation.

"Vote for who you think really can put our country together and is tested in crisis, and is the president we need to get us out of this economic hole," he said.

Lieberman said Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is not ready to be president.

"Sen. Obama probably will have his day, even a day when I support him, but it's not at this election," he said.

Lieberman was the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000.

He meets with Jewish community leaders in Cleveland on Monday.

It amazes me to see such seething hatred for one individual from a number of commetors on this page. I realize we are a "blue" state but come on people, stop getting caught up spewing names, and titles like "hate monger" etc. I take issue with many of Obama's stances, associations and plans for the future; however, I will not attack him personally as many here seem to do with Palin/McCain. Yes, there are individuals that launch personal attacks Obama, I will not deny that, but in todays situation we should be above that; for our own good! Question the issues, the stances, the history, but leave the hatred and labeling at home. I would also suggest that some individuals may need to research some of their claims before spouting off, as there seems to be a few uneducated oppinions flowing freely.

All of government is the problem right now; not the republicans, not the democrats... everyone has a hand in this mess.

You may not agree with Palin, but she may be the one individual in this race who shares our everyday experiences.

NorthernGal

I called the Bangor Daily news and they said that's news to them, they said don't believe everything you hear.....

This from the woman whose central anti-Obama theme is his purported lying:

"Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing (in the Troopergate investigation) … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there."

Ummm, Sarah, sweetie, the uh, report states just the opposite - that you DID INDEED act unethically and BROKE the law in your state regarding such conduct.

"Yeah, well, look at who was on the commission" - Oops, 4 Dems and TEN Repubs. No Muslims, no blacks, no 60's radicals.

Who's the liar again, Gov?

Going with her "logic', OJ was innocent, too!

Birds of a feather flock together (think of your own personal lives)! So, associations DO make a difference!

Palin has the highest approveal rating of ANY governor in the country! Gee..how did that happen? She must be dong a good job! (unlike our democrat gov)

Palin has as much foreign policy experience as Obama (that is none by either one....unless you count the trip he made when he condemed America to our foreign friends)

Palin has been running a state

Obama has only served for 140 DAYS as a senator

Seems like a pretty easy pick....McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden (seriously, would you want Biden to be President??) The pick is btween bad and worse. McCain is bad but Obama is WORSE!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I'll let you all get back to your fighting.....have fun!

Obama served with Ayers on the board of an anti poverty charity. Not a terrorist group. Ayers contributed $200.00 to Obama's re-election fund. Should Obama be punished because of who his supporters are? Or because of who lives in his neighborhood?? I ask you to take a look at your neighborhood, and wonder if you'd like to be judged by the people who live around you. I certainly wouldn't.

Oh brother he's already trapped so many of you...Come on Country First, McCain has proven that he will fight for our Country, obama will not salute the U.S. Flag. Please see below

Obama explains why he doesn't salute

> the U.S.flag

>

> I sure hope this gets around before Nov.!!!

>

>

> Hot on the heels of his explanation

> for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator

>

> According to the United States Code,

> Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national

> "As I've said about the flag pin, I

> It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose.

> our anthem, then I might salute it."

>

> Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could

Put your boots on. The Palin PMS Express is about to hit Bangor.

Good God, hasnt this all been debunked over and over and over again. How on earth can you be this stupid? Thankfully most people have enough sense to CHECK the FACTS. They dont go by doctored up photoshopped forwarded emails.

But ya know what....keep it comming....just keep it coming. The more crazy they get, the more sane people turn to Obama!!

Tsk, tsk, Mainform......spreading lies like this does NOT help your cause:

Description: Email hoax / Satire

Circulating since: March 2008

Status: False

http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/barackobama/a/obama_anthem.htm

Now go re-educate yourself and blaspheme no more.

By the way did everyone hear the life story of the man who started the "Obama is a Muslim" rumors?

His name is Andy Martin and...I'll give you the highlights from the New York Times article about him:

-he was blocked from joining the IL bar after he was found to have a “moderately severe character defect manifested by well-documented ideation with a paranoid flavor and a grandiose character.” (NYT)

- he can't file any lawsuits in federal court without preliminary approval because he has filed so many frivilous lawsuits

-Ran for congress in CT with the purpose of "exterminating Jew power." Also called a federal judge a "crooked, slimy Jew."

-Filed a court paper that said "“I am able to understand how the Holocaust took place, and with every passing day feel less and less sorry that it did.” (NYT)

-jailed in FL for physical altercation

pseym4, that’s typical college kids. They are a democrat when going to school, then they get out get a job and realize they have to pay taxes and reality sinks in. Then they change to Republican after they get some common sense.

PaleShadows: Maybe you should provide the link to the Republican folks so they can read it for theirselves. Oh, that's right..... they don't like to read or hear the truth. I just read the article myself and found it very interesting. And, to mccainformaine: Lieberman is an indepent democrat. Which means that he only kept the democratic label so he would not have to give up his senate seat. NorthernGal feel free to do your own research about the threats that have been made against Obama at McCain/Pailin rallies, due to their racial rhetoric, and the fact that the secret service is investigating it. Please, after you do, comeback and tell me that it is not true. Bet that you can't.

PaleShadows : I think our mainefor mccain and mccainpalin08 are one in the same I've been reading their ranting for a few days now....they take great pleasure in trying to make us Obama people look small if we don't react it will go away

Seaofroses, agreed!! One in the same indeed!!

elmerfudd, I could post the link, but I dont they repubs would take the time to read it...they're too busy forwarding hate mail and listening to Hannity.

PaleShadows: Unfortunately, I think that you are absolutely correct.

Winston Churchill said, "if you aren't a liberal when you're in your twenties, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative by the time you are 40, you have no brain." From reading these responses, I think I can make a pretty good guess at how old you are! haaaaaaaa

I was un-decided but listening to you democrats has made me think twice

I learned to read in the early 50s in large part through the BDN, read it cover to cover daily, and appreciate that it is one of - if not THE - only Maine dailies not controlled by out of state corporations...the publisher is, I believe, a moderate Republican. However, the internet - which brings so much hateful garbage that I suspect is being consumed by many posting here today - also allows us access to other reputable sourses of fact and opinion. One of my favorite is www.washingtonpost.com

While there are strong threads of racism, sexism, religous bigotry and xenophobism in the history of American politics, the current presidential race is taking a nasty turn that truly threatens the promise of American democracy. I recommend to you an op-ed piece in today's Washington Post, "McCain and the Raging Right," by E.J. Dionne .

And as much as the prospects of the Palins in the White House disturbs me, as a rural Mainiac (and former Republican with family & friends still enthralled by the GOP's myths) I suspect I could enjoy interacting with them in a social context. The problem created by those who will not consider socializing with those who differ with them is the topic of a book by Wm. Bishop, "The Big Sort," which I recommend. We are too quick to demonize those with whom we disagree!

And those among you who see a strong role for the Palins in the GOP's future may enjoy today's Tom Toles editorial cartoon, also to be found at the Washington Post .

Hey everyone, Here's a thought.......what ever happened to this country? The UNITED States.......united we stand / divided we fall.........look at all of us bashing each other, spreading false accusations and hatred. Where does that lead us? Down the tubes, that's where. We ALL need to come together and work together for the common good of this country. Yes there will be compromise on both parts, but isn't that what good relations are all about? Just imagine what will happen and what this country will be like if we DON'T work together......it makes us weak and vunerable to all sorts of terrible things. Do any of us want that for our country? Think about it.

More shrieking from the flying monkees on the right. None of it based in reality. Pretty much all in a day's work here.

To all you mean spirited people, take a look at our state and what the Democrats have done just tax and spend. Look what the Democrats have done since they took control over congress. very little. Regardless who is elected it is suppose to be they represent us not their own or parties interest.

I admire Sara Palin maybe now special need children and adults will stand a chance for the real American Dream. Go Sara

Shame on those students who displayed deviant behavior! Is that what they learned from their parents or society. TIme to expect better behavior especially out of the young men and women who are attending college.

rmggsar: Please remember who has the final say to congress; the president does and the current one happens to be Republican. That is why many do not want another four years of it. McCain original backed Bush and his policies and in fact said that he would continue with many of them. Now, McCain is trying to seperate himself from Bush and his policies. And, the right accuses the left of being "wishy-washy"? Please.

As for people accusing one side of being mean spirited and not taking a look at your own, I will say that NONE have been as mean spirited as the hate that McCain/Pailin have promoted against Obama at their rallies.

Saltoria: whether someone is in their 20s or 40s they have equal right to vote in this country, so their opinions should be given equal respect.

Saltoria: In this country, whether you are in your twenties or forties, you have equal right to vote. Therefore, people should not discriminate against age. Everyone's opinions deserve the same amount of respect, no matter how old they are.

gobama, I think I got it the first time you said it. However it's true, since I just turned 50, my hearing isn't what it used to be, but my judgment is much better!!

bitchy bitchy

For Saltoria - As a former resident of Alaska, I keep up with what happens in the "Last Frontier." Ms. Palin has not been running a state, period. She is the queen of delegation. Even her friends admit that she does not like meetings, did not show up for a special session that she called and has spent more than fifty percent of her term at home not in the capitol.

Her popularity has sunk since the Republican convention and the State personnel board is expanding their investigation into her administration. The bulk of her "work" was already on her desk when she took office.

A lot of my friends are going to vote for McCain in hopes that she won't be coming back to Alaska.

A little history - which two states voted for Ross Perot? Maine and Alaska.....scary isn't it???

there will be an OBAMA rally at the AIRPORT MALL THURSDAY MORNING we will start gathering round 7:00 AM we want to show Sarah a nice time in Maine

Agreed. Some would "like" to think that a person's voting age is relavant in this thread, well sorry to dissapoint you but I graduated college over 20 years ago.

I believe searoses is close to my age as well, as we both noted in past threads our HS grad yr....mid to late 70's.

Paleshadows...... stop using them big words... you know maineformccain and his friends never graduated from high school and read at a sixth grade level. And don't forget... books are evil.

Paleshadows and Sickntired, Both of you are very immature. Paleshadows IF you really are in your 70's then shame on you!!

Sickntired that name fits you because you sound like a person that is depressed and has NO clue about life!!!

I'll be in seminars all day but if you want to reply to my posting i'm sure you guys will have a grand oh time debating this with

eachother.

This is a question to searoses............I wasn't aware of on Obama rally on Thursday at the airport. PLEASE tell me the time and where you folks will be gathering, Who is sponsoring this rally (or is it just a group to support his campaign?) I'd love to participate if you can get the particulars to me in time.

I am sickened by so much negativity in this election season, but I am always ready to show my whole-hearted support for Barack Obama. In my opinion, there is absolutely no doubt who would take this country into the future more responsibly and intelligently. I welcome info about the rally on Thursday!

Yes Searoses please give us more information, there's so many people that would love to meet you....

GOOD CALL STEVEYDEE. YOU WONDER WHY WITH COMPUTERS AND ALL, WHY DON'T THEY CHECK VOTING RECORDS AND VOTE NOW THE ONE THAT WILL BE BEST FOR THEIR OWN FUTURE.

Mainefromccain, you must have failed math and basic reading comprehension. I said I graduated HS (as in High School) in the late 70's.

And don't forget to check out what some of the smarter Democrats had to say at this website that I have provided the link for. These guys don't even know what Barak is bringing to the table. I can't stop laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.bpmdeejays.com/upload/hs_sal_in_Harlem_100108.mp3

maineformccain, so checking FACTS and further debunking the hate mail you attempt to spread equates immaturity?

I'm still trying to figure out how you came to the conclusion that I'm in my 70's. Perhaps you failed basic math AND reading comprehsion?

Oh come on Stevey, I've read (and enjoyed) your comments for over a year...you're smarter then this!!

The funny thing is that I'm not taking my Grandmother to vote. She is voting for the colored man she said. So if I don't take here that's 1 less vote for Barak. Too bad she can't drive. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont even need plug in the link. I know exactly what its referring too. I could go to Lubec and get the same results...sorry.

It's got to be true, Howard told me so!!!!!!!!!

Stevey...LMAO...you crack me up.

Paleshadows, What are you talking about...am i missing something here...I never mentioned your age..please get your facts straight and tell the trurh, we've heard enough lies here..

Tell granny I will pick her up AND take her to breakfast....and NO you cant come!

You better watch it Stevey or you'll get the cane......

Oh, sorry, I was referring to you OTHER username....mccainpalin08.

Marrin: the rally has been put together by the DEMS of MAINE ...AIRPORT MALL BANGOR 7:30 to who know when

SteveyDee: Are you that afraid that Mccain will lose, that you won't give your grandmother a ride to the polls? Thats a very nice move, not helping out a family member and fellow voter because they have a different opinion than you. Is that campaign strategy?

SteveyDee: Are you that afraid that Mccain will lose, that you won't give your grandmother a ride to the polls? Thats a very nice move, not helping out a family member and fellow voter because they have a different opinion than you. Is that campaign strategy?

sorry for the multiple posts, browser froze

Paleshadows, do you work for the media...cause you certainly are sounding like them, get your facts straight..Go SteveyDee let them have it!!

Oh Paleshadows are you sure your not Searoses....oops i'm sorry you two sound like the same person...Go to some of the other postings you need to read Elizabethann's postings, BREATH OF FRESH AIR!!!!!!

That is one of the major reasons for the financial crisis. These three men were all linked to cooking the books at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. There seems to be a pattern in the way the way these men conduct business. I don't want them running this country and Obama knowing the track record of these three men still hired them. Some things I can ignore but that was the last straw for me. This country is in enough trouble as it is. Do an online search on these three men.

oops sorry my browser froze on me

oops sorry my browser froze on me

oops sorry my browser froze on me

Sorta like your brain is frozen. . . .

We wont go there about your brain now will we....I'm sure your friends could tell us a few stories....OUCH!! You probably don't want us to hear about who you really are..kind of NUTTY.....

maineformccain: I don't understand why you feel the need to fight like an elementary school child. Its ridiculous and unnecessary.

Gosama, Don't even go there, i've read all over your postings and just let me say one thing IMMATURE!!!!

I'm not exactly sure what postings of mine you are calling immature. I dont taunt other commenters, as you do.

Just because I don't have the same political opinions that you do, it has nothing to do with my maturity level.

gobama, maineformccain/mccainpalin08 could not possibly enter into a mature debate. He resorts to name calling and is FOREVER regurgitating/plagarizing text he reads on the net. For once I just like to see this user post WHY he believes his candidate is best instead of this mindless dribble he cuts and pastes constantly

See you at the polls..............

Here ya go, i hope this helps you

Actually my Grandmother can drive. If she needed me to take her I would. I would just help her vote like leave her glasses at home. I think Obama will win. Unless the Bradley effect works it's magic. People want change and Obama is telling people what they want to hear. I agree myself that the Government is hosed up. But it’s both sides. There is one thing for sure and that is they will have to raise taxes, who ever gets in there. There is no way you can get us out of debt unless you do. You can’t polish a turd my friend!!!!!!

Go SteveyDee Go!!!

dear Elizabethann go to factcheck.com they are sponsered by that Annenburg.. I'm not sure of the spelling..foundation that has give thounds of dollars to thw McCain camp...and you'll find the true about what you have posted...Annenburg founders were and are Republican don't ya know

maineformccain, you dont seem to be able to "think" for yourself since you've obvioulsly cut and pasted someone else's words...AGAIN

So I will reiterate what the other posters has asked. Please tell us in YOUR words why YOU think McCain is the best choice. I wont even ask about Palin because no one in their right mind would want her as VP.

Its Palin's background, policy, bigotry and inexperienced that have changed my changed my vote.

Neither canidate is an ideal choice IMO, but I get nauseous just thinking about Palin as ever leading this country.

Can you honestly say you are not concerned with Palin as VP?

Paleshadows: maineformccain sounds like Pailin herself and the ignorant rhetoric that she knows how to use so well. So, maineformccain...... I am sure that you must have heard that the RNC is pulling their ads out of Maine. Oh my, could it be because they finally got a clue and realized that they don't stand a cold chance in hell of winning this state? One protester said it all today, with a sign, at a rally for Pailin. The sign read, "Welcome to New Hampshire. Abuse is offensive. So are you."
