HUDSON, Maine — A father and two of his sons, allegedly upset about stolen marijuana plants, were charged with aggravated criminal threatening and assault after breaking into a neighbor’s home and beating him up, state police said Wednesday.

Walter Sawyer, 50, and his sons, Walter Sawyer Jr., 31, and Jason Sawyer, 20, who all live on Brandy Lane, allegedly got upset with a couple living down the street and decided to confront the male on Tuesday afternoon.

“They forced their way into the residence — kicking in the back door — and assaulted the resident,” Maine State Police Trooper Chris Hashey said Wednesday. “Apparently, all three assaulted him” at times using a broomstick.

“He was able to get away from them, run to his car and drive away to his parents” to call for help, Hashey said.

The victim’s wife told police that the three men had stopped her vehicle earlier in the day and told her that they were going to beat up her husband for stealing “marijuana plants from the woods,” Hashey said.

She called her husband to warn him, and he locked the doors. Soon the Sawyers showed up and broke into the house while the husband was calling 911.

No marijuana was found at the scene, and the Sawyers “were not cooperative” and did not corroborate the victim’s report, Hashey said. The Sawyers each were charged with aggravated criminal threatening, a Class C felony, and assault, a Class D charge, and were taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

If convicted of the threatening, they could face a jail sentence of up to five years and a fine of up to $5,000. All were released Wednesday and are scheduled to be back in front of a judge Nov. 26, a jail official said.

Sounds like a the Sawyers are a nice bunch. If they would have kicked in my door and come in they would have had several sucking chest wounds.

i would hope the charge of breaking and entering would be brought agaist these people too, seems to be that they are self admitted drug dealers 1st off, this is why people have got to keep means of protection for themselves,

I think I hear banjos playing in the background of this story.... and this is why I too have guns!!!

If i knew that someone was going to break into my home and beat me up, i would have the 9MM loaded and ready.i keep it handy.

Wow, see, they should just stick to sharing and smoking pot, not protecting and hoarding it. Geesh, I wouldn't buy pot from these guys, too much violent karma in the growing operation, bad voo doo. I would only buy pot from good hearted, peaceful folk. They're gonna lose business cause of this.

3 guys beat him up with a broom stick?

Now that you got little walt maybe i can get some help with child support. what a bunch of losers. they deserve what they will get. anyone who beats anyone should be punished. that goes for everyone. Go Maine State Police.

Well, let's see what will happen on this. First they will be released on bail and probably try to go after the guy again. Then they will go to court. ANd one of our namby pamby judges will let them off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist and off they go again. Why do we have laws in this state if no one is going to enforce them. Prisons are over crowded. Well tough @#$%. Pack them in like sardines instead of giving them 2 man rooms with tv and video games. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
