ORNEVILLE, Maine — Three antique automobiles and about 20 antique motorcycles have been stolen within the past two weeks from a farmhouse on Big Boyd Lake Road.
Lt. Robert Young of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday investigators believe that more items are missing from the property, since all the doors to every outbuilding and the main home were ripped from their hinges.
The owners of the property, who live elsewhere in the state, are unable to make the trip until next Tuesday, when an inventory will be taken, Young said. No one lives on the property. A hunter who was familiar with the property and the area reported the break-in.
Young suspects the break-in is connected to several other recent break-ins at camps in the remote area. In those approximately eight break-ins, the thieves were looking for copper wiring, he said.
“It’s a very isolated area,” Young said of the Big Boyd Lake Road.
Young said it appears that some of the doors that were ripped from their hinges were used to load the vehicles, which included an older model International Scout, a 1950s pickup truck and a 1960 convertible.
Anyone who may have seen any activity in the area over the past several weeks is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 564-3304.

My how the perception of "antique vehicles" changes with time. The 1950s/60s vehicles mentioned in this news item were still over the horizon in the future when this circa. 1935 Depression Baby was growing up, and now they are considered antiques!
