Baby born near Maine hospital entrance

By The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — The expectant parents got to a Portland hospital in time for their son to be delivered. They just didn’t make it inside.

Jessie Plourde went into labor early Monday morning and decided it was time to get to Mercy Fore River hospital’s new birthing center. But the baby had other plans, and by the time the family pulled their car up to the front entrance, he was ready to be born.

With no time to get the mother inside, three nurses and two security guards rushed to Jessie’s side at the back seat of the family car. Moments later, the nurses helped father Matt Moon deliver his new son, a healthy, 9 lb., 6 oz. baby boy, and placed him safely in his mother’s arms.
