BDN, Times Record endorse Obama

Noooooo..... really........ I would have never guessed it........you guys are so good at disguising your support. Has the BDN ever supported a republican candidate? Just curious.

The very first thing I was taught at Cambridge College of Radio and Television Journalism and Business in Boston, Massachusetts, when I attended that college back in 1963, was from a teacher, whose name, unfortunately I cannot recall, although he worked at WEII, Boston; was that at no time, ever...does any news reporter or news service "side" or "endorse" or "lean" towards ANY candidate or political party, or take sides in issues, and to report the news clean! I never, ever forgot that. Guess times in social attitude have certainly changed since then. For the Bangor Daily News to endorse anyone, let alone the likes of Baracka Hussein Obama, does not surprise me in the least.

I arrived back in Tuguegarao City about ten minutes ago, and sitting right now in the backseat of my car (my wife is driving me home). As I was flying back, I was speaking to a couple of individuals who engaged in conversation with me concerning Obama. One of them told me that this election in the US is a set-up. I let him speak. He said that there is a direct relationship between Obama and JFK. He did not say much more than that, but let me figure it out for myself. He continued to tell me that Obama is being "used" by several US governmental agencies (he did not specify which ones), and in the midst of this terroristic society around the world we are involved in, Obama, the closest one to this culture and society, is the one chosen to assist in neutralizing terror, but that neutralization is not from Obama, directly. Obama is the pawn, being used. The rest of the current economic problems in the US will not come directly from the President's alleged repair job...but from the senatorial, congressional and other officers of the government, who will fix it. Not Obama. Obama will be elected. But his position will be considered public relations only, a talking head, but covering his lack of experience will be the government itself. I asked this man who he was, and he did not say. He only said it was his opinion. Now, what if this is true? This brings to light a completely new outlook and twist on this election and Obama's rise to power so fast. Scares me to think about it, but it could be an obvious situation that this election is held in agendas way beyond the control of the voter's.

Bangor Daily News: McCain has publicly stated Obama is a good and descent man, fully capable of being President. Liberal editors can't summons the courage to simply state you want a liberal president. You support killing babies and call it pro-choice, support restrictions on information pertaining to sexual predators available to the public. How presumptuous and self absorbing you editors are to say the Bangor Daily News supports anything. It is the one, two or however small number of editors authoring the editorials. Well, that is a good theory johninphillipnes. It has been a conspiracy theory for years that the Bilder Burger wants to change the face of the world and change it back to a agrarian society, which means, to have people live squallor and have the rich people living in absolute control over the fifedom. So far, so good. They seem to be getting their way. The rich is definitely getting richer.....why should we underlings feel sorry for the rich? The CEO's and big corporations? Because that is what society has taught us to do. The environment has conditioned us to look upwards, not at the heavens but at big corporations to save us. Why is it that paper mills, shoe shops and lumber mills are idle? They're not considered big enough businesses to save and in fact are considered nuisances in the grand scheme of things. That is scary stuff.....no wonder Collins campaign is saying that she supports small businesses, look at Bath Iron Works, I guess they would be considered small business in the eyes of big corporations...but not to us who live here and trying to make a living and have been for generations....with no viable "big, homegrown" businesses we are left at the mercy's of other out of state corporations....For decades, we Mainers prided ourselves for self-suffiency but slowly and surely, the out of staters have stripped that sense of independence away from us. Now, we are left powerless and vulnerable to BIG corporations. We can't rebel but learn to live with making the choices and learning as wel go....No more are the days of waking up and knowing that you have a solid job and future ahead of you and your family...Mainers need to realize that the old days are gone....we need to get creative and create jobs and realize that opportunities are knocking every day....like the Casino bill....Hollywood Slots have been a big boom for Bangor....look at other opportuniites and embrace the work, not the plattitudes....We all need to survive and learn to live again.

Although I strongly object to Plum Creek, for one, building in Maine, and destroying that centerpiece of wildlife and naturality Maine has...plus that damned Casino in Oxford (Hollywood Slots - whatever that is) may employ some Maine folks; but I wish to see job and employment gurantees before I jump into mental conclusions. I do like to see more jobs for Maine folks, but not at the cost of big-business demands and hardball tatics I understand they made to get their way in Augusta and locally on these and more upcoming projects.

The new news about Obama today? He received over two hundred and twenty-two million dollars from foreign funds, most or all of that money was money converted into dollars from foreign currencies. Which countries in particular, were not mentioned. It boils down to sixty-three million dollars that his campaign had to keep per the feds, that were "legal" funds. The rest were returned, if they could trace the senders, but in most cases, they could not trace the sending authority. People whose names were common, like, Joe Smith, Larry Brown...etc, people who were retired school teachers donating thirteen thousand dollars, clerks donating ten thousand dollars, etc...it goes on and on and on. Truly a mismaster, if you ask me. I'am sure this will come out...real soon in the news papers (maybe the BDN will hide it) and on TV. Previews of coming attractions.

I can't believe it. The BDN used to be a paper that supported the American flag. Any newspaper or person who would support someone that doesn't support our flag, instead turns his back on it, ought to be ashamed of themselves. Only my opinion, however, it would be a cold day in Hades before I would support someone who turns his back on millions of men and women who have fought and given their lives for this country and our flag.

Markko, just to let you know, NO I am not stupid. Actually I'm a college educated woman who reads anything and everything about my potential candidates. Not only does he not support our flag, he also supports partial-birth abortion. I do not make opinions about candidates unless I am well-informed. Why did the Democrats let him get this far, it's called popularity. It's who you know and who's hand you have greased. Used, not at all. Oh and by the way, I was in the Army and my husband is a Veteran of 2 "Conflicts". So I do not take our flag lightly nor do I take lightly what it stands for. You may not be patriotic and that is your problem, however my whole family has served and I will continue to support our flag to the ends of the earth. That flag stands for more than patriotism it is a symbol to all for what this nation stands and does not stand for. There is no way on God's green earth that I will support someone as unqualified as Barack Obama. If it wasn't for people like John McCain and my husband and others like them willing to put their lives on the line you would not have the right to say your opinion but also have it published online. My, My, My. What a lovely suprise. Fair and Balanced news, that's what we look for hear in Eastern Maine. BDN can only wonder why their numbers are dropping in terms of circulation and advertising. I do not subscribe purely because of this type of left leaning tendencies. My company chooses not to advertise because of the same. The obvious bias is offensive to a huge potential customer base out there. As a businessman, I have to be careful in how customers are treated and strive to remain unbiased in interaction. I would think newspapers such as the BDN could benefit from a little bit of business sense in these matters. Besides, didn't the legislature recently pass law that made it illegal to advance political platforms with employees in the workplace? I am not sure, but I would imagine there ar BDN employees who disagree with managments' endorsment. It's a tad bit of slippery-slope, however, the laws are only convienient for those who are in power. Typical arrogant elites!

In my opinion Obama is a Marxist. A socialist. His loyalties to this nation are questionable. His intimate associates are questionable. He considers the Constitution a scrapable piece of paper. And, as someone posted above, a newspaper should not take sides, but remain impartial. The action of the BDN and Times indicates that their reporting on Obama the next four years (I believe he will be elected,much to the detriment of this country) will be slanted and biast.

This just blows me away...why don't they just put him in office and tell us it's none of our business......

What's up with these endorsements, This guy has been in office for how long???? We really don't know him!!! A. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

D. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

E. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state.

F. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

G. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.

J. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

K. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

L. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

M. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?

Say what you want, but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. I have a few friends over in Iraq, they said if they didn't want to be there they wouldn't have volunteered, they said that a lot of Soldiers will be angry if Obama takes them out before they see VICTORY, They said if he gets in and ends the war all of these lives that have been lost will have been in vein.

Personally, what do I think he has and could do for America? I think he could mend a lot of the relations that Bush and Co have trampled on in the international arena. Remember the days after 9/11 when countries that the right wingers now have totally abandoned and ridiculed like France and Germany said to us "WE FEEL YOUR PAIN LIKE IT WAS OUR OWN PAIN... WE ARE ALL AMERICANS.... ETC." Now, but for the most necessary protocol most countries avoid diplomatic relations with the US, or at least approach it very differently than they did with Clinton and even Bush Sr and Reagan...

Bush has done SO MUCH damage to just the international view of America that it is nearly beyond repair. We need someone to mend those bridges, as we have seen in this ever increasing international banking fiasco/crisis... We need someone in charge who will be able to say "you can trust us again," not someone who'd say "trust us, just trust us dammit... even though I voted with Bush 90 percent of his presidency."

That's what Obama would bring to the presidency. What would McCain bring besides a cute governor from Alaska? More of the same of the past 8 years? I certainly don't hope so.

It's a good thing that Bush is in the picture, if he wasn't...Obamas campaign wouldn't have had much to say..Put that in your Pipe and Smoke It!!!

maineformccain, you know very well that this Republican administration has presided over the biggest government takeover of business in the history of the U.S. Please permit me to respond to some of your points:

A) If I chose to drive my eight year old car across the country there's a good chance I won't make it because our infrastructure is crumbling.

B) My dad lives in a large suburban area and experiences frequent blackouts, that never happened when I was growing up.

C) Most people can no longer make ends meet working just one job because the wealth of this country is concentrated among too few, so yes, 94% percent of us have jobs today but most of us can't pay our basic expenses.

D) I better hope when I walk into a grocery store that the food I buy doesn't kill me because the the F.D.A. has been so starved of cash it can't protect our food supply. That goes double for any crappy chain restaurant I end up eating at.

E) If I end up in a wreck and need emergency care, chances are I'll end up having to declare bankruptcy because even though I have what most would consider a good job, I can't afford health insurance and even if I could there's a better than even chance despite shelling out $6-10,000.00 a year in premiums that the insurance company would not pay for my coverage. I guess the billion dollar compensation that the CEO of that company receives for denying claims is just the free market working its magic.

SO, if you were pregnant with number 6 and in the 5th month something were to go so wrong that to continue were to theaten your life AT THAT POINT, what right would you want the government to have to dictate to you and your husband what your decision should/would HAVE to be? Americans, for the most part, have lives that are so far above the rest of the world's population we should be thanking God hourly that we were so blessed to have been born in this country. BUT, this country is the way it is because of a courageous group of Founding Fathers and Mothers who sacrificed so much more to create this country than the vast majority of us today ever were. And the vast majority of today's Americans don't even know the history of this country - or have any sense of civic repsonsibility (just look as the normal voting percentages over the past 20 years). True, this year is an exception - and we should ALL be thankful for that. As for the current President, perhaps the reason he is not so much respected is because he has lost his credibility with the American public. He has "misspoken" (tactful word for lied) to the American people for whom he was elected to SERVE so many times, people (the majority - even Republicans) don't believe what he says. He "mis-spoke" when he said that if someone in his administration was responsible for the "outing" of Valerie Plane, that person would be held accountable. Well, they ended up holding Scotter Libby "accountable" for obstruction of justice (lying to the DOJ) - but he was just the Fall Guy. Dick Cheney and Karl Rove were the masterminds behind the "outing". And Karl Rove keeps merryily on. We don't even need to talk about Dick Cheney, do we. Bush has been the puppet - Cheney the puppeteer. Should we talk about Rumsfield? We can hold him accountable for the mismanagement of the war - but Bush didn't want to get rid of him - even though the country knew Rumsfield was doing a lousey job. I could go on, but I've given you enough clues. Bush has not been any kind of a President. He's just bumbled his way along and the sooner he's gone, the better.

gymmy1, Don't know where you ever got your ideas that Obama was a Muslim because he was raised by his grandparents who were Sounthern Baptists (grandfather) and Methodist (grandmother). His mother was Southern Baptist and even though his father came from Indonesia, his father was not Muslim. Just the past few days ago I have been thinking a bit into the future, wondering what is in store... If there was mass unemployment and either the democrats or republicans (whoever is in office) would be blamed... if the economy totally tanks and there is not enough money to keep the wheels turning, how long would it really take before laws and the law start crumbling, and what would keep chaos and territorialism from sprouting up?

All this arguing and hatred from BOTH sides really has to stop... The country and the world economies, not to mention the energy, food and ecology are in such a fragile balance that I am a bit worried about the future. How can we stop this fighting?

You hardworking conservatives, I know, put all you have into your jobs and families... But you know what? So do the people who call themselves liberals. They have grocery bills and car payments, too. They live next door to you and they say hello to you at the Post Office. The Democratic Party used to be the party of the working class, but since Reagan's promise of "trickle down economics" in 1980, the working class chose the Republicans as their savior. Since then we have seen gas prices skyrocket, home heating bills with sums that force people to choose between heat and food or medications. Labor unions have all but disappeared, and check your paycheck stub, has it risen much above cost of living increases, if at all, in the past decade? We have seen the rich get richer and the working class basically stay the same.

So, like Ronald Reagan, I ask you "are you better off now than you were eight years ago?"

Don't listen to the screaming crazies... Hey, if Obama was a terrorist, don't you think he would be in Gitmo by now?? Those are scare tactics devised by cowards. I'm not saying McCain is a coward... His campaign, like a freight train, is coming off the tracks.

If only for the simple promise that Obama has made to NOT increase taxes on YOU AND ME, the 98 percent of the USA that makes less than $250,000 yearly. He has promised to raise taxes on those who make more than that... If only for that reason, just vote for Obama. Get off the hype train and listen for a minute.
