New polls show good news for Obama in Maine

Democratic candidate enjoys comfortable lead over McCain

Two polls released Wednesday — less than two weeks shy of Election Day — suggest Barack Obama has pulled comfortably ahead of John McCain in Maine despite the Republican’s recent attention to the state.

Just days after GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin held a rally at Bangor International Airport, a SurveyUSA poll sponsored by WCSH 6, WLBZ 2 and the Bangor Daily News showed Obama with a 54 percent to 39 percent edge among likely voters.

Similarly, a survey taken by Pan Atlantic SMS Group Oct. 14-16, immediately before Palin’s visit, had Obama on top 51 percent to 39 percent.

“Given how things are going nationally, these numbers seem to be about right,” said Amy Fried, a political scientist at the University of Maine. “I think there would have to be something fairly major in terms of an event or a significant gaffe [by Obama] for things to change.”

Two polls taken in late September showed a much closer race statewide with the Democratic presidential nominee holding leads of four and five points, respectively. That was before the nationwide economic crisis and three head-to-head debates, which appear to have sent more voters toward Obama than McCain.

Toby McGrath, Maine’s state director for the Obama campaign, said the race is far from over.

“With less than two weeks to go, the race is competitive and it is more important than ever to get out and early-vote, volunteer, make calls and talk to your friends and neighbors about why Barack Obama will bring the change we need to Washington,” he said.

Rep. Josh Tardy, R-Newport, the McCain campaign co-chairman in Maine, said he didn’t think this week’s polls were indicative of what he is seeing throughout the state and the nation.

“I don’t think either candidate is putting much stock in polls this time of year,” he said. “The fact is, the McCain campaign feels the race is very close on a national level and is very close in Maine.”

Results from recent nationwide polls have been mixed. An Associated Press poll released Wednesday found Obama leading McCain by just one percentage point at 44 percent to 43 percent.

A Washington Post-CBS poll released Monday had the race at 53 percent to 44 percent in favor of Obama. A CNN-Opinion Research Corp. poll released the same day showed Obama leading 49 percent to 43 percent.

The recent SurveyUSA poll contacted 642 likely Maine voters Oct. 19-20 and had a margin of error of 3.9 percent.

When broken down by congressional district, Obama had a seemingly insurmountable 22-point lead in the 1st District. The 2nd District, which is more rural and generally more conservative, showed a tighter contest with the Illinois senator ahead by six points.

Maine is one of only two states (Nebraska is the other) that splits its electoral votes. The winner of each congressional district gets one vote, and the winner of the state gets the other two.

However, since 1972, when Maine adopted that system, the state’s four electoral votes have never been split. Al Gore carried the state by five points in 2000, and John Kerry won by nine points in Maine four years ago.

The poll by Portland-based Pan Atlantic SMS Group didn’t have as big a gap among congressional districts. In fact, Obama’s advantage was the same in the 2nd District (53-40) as the 1st (50-37).

That poll was based on computer-assisted telephone interviews conducted Oct. 13-16 with 400 registered Maine voters who said they were likely to cast ballots on Nov. 4. It had a margin of error of 4.9 percent but also had a larger percentage of undecided voters (8 percent) than the SurveyUSA poll (3 percent).

The biggest indication of Obama’s surge in Maine, according to the Pan Atlantic survey, was his appeal to independent voters, a group he now leads by 19 points.

The SurveyUSA poll also showed Sen. Obama has made gains among both women and men in Maine. In the four weeks since the last SurveyUSA poll in Maine, Obama has increased his lead among Maine women from 10 to 23 points. Among men, Obama trailed by one point last month but now leads by six.

The polls asked which campaign has been run more negatively and 56 percent indicated McCain and Palin have been more negative compared to only 20 percent for Obama and his vice presidential pick, Sen. Joe Biden.

“The McCain campaign has continued to make dishonorable and false attacks to try to distract voters from McCain’s plan to continue Bush’s failed economic policies,” said Jessica Santillo, Maine communications director for Obama. “Even Republican Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins have denounced these false smears, which Mainers have found deeply offensive.”

Tardy was sympathetic to concerns and agreed that negative politicking doesn’t sit well with Maine voters, but he said some issues, such as Obama’s ties to alleged domestic terrorist William Ayers, should be in play.

“Notwithstanding a tactic that I disagree with, I don’t think the campaign should be backing off the message,” he said.

My opinion is that, Mainers will be SORRY if Oboma is elected!! WHAT DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT HIM? And WHAT do you really think he will do for Maine...NOTHING. He is so far out of touch with what the needs of the Mainers are...... In the beginning of his campaign, I was for him, until further down the road, as I learned a lot of disturbing things about him.... and It's my belief, HE can't be TRUSTED! If you think Maine is left out of the Federal pie, wait until you elect O boma????? John Mac Cain is a decent, honorable, devoted to his country, type of man. Yes, he may be somewhat old calendar years, however; his cabinet will be, behind him helping him; when it comes to smarts, his years are right in tact!!!....John is NOT... George Bush, that is what Mainers need to get in their heads.....John isn't responsible for the mess George Bush left the country in!!!... Oboma's TAX on the rich is a joke..... do you really believe that, than I have a snowball to sell you..... from Alaska...lol may God go with you Mainers, election day !!!!

Those Maine Giuliani robocalls (along w/Palin's $150K "shopping spree") certainly don't help.

Palin is the gift that keeps on giving.

John McCain is too decent to tolerate the swift boating of his own campaign. He comes out in defense of Obama when people are duped yet again by Davis and Schmidt's idiotic lies. If they had let McCain be McCain he would have fared better. Most folks are too wised up to fall for the same old malarkey.

I received my Mayor 911 call last night. I was struck by emphatic and surely Rudy depicted Obama as literally in bed with sex offenders. I'm glad I don't have any small children that might have received that message before I had a chance to intercept it. Apparently Senator Collins and Olympia's half-hearted protestations over Robocalls has fallen on deaf ears.

On another note here's some figures that might interest the McCain supporters:

If a person makes $1,000,000.00 under McCain's tax plan they would pay $12,000 less in taxes next year.

Under Obama's plan that individual would pay $48,000 more in taxes. Personally, I don't have any problem with someone making a million dollars paying more in taxes. Because if they don't pay more and end up paying less, that means the money has to come from somewhere. Guess where that is? From anyone making less than a quarter million dollars, that's who.

How anyone can vote against their own best interest is mind boggling to me, especially in depressed rural Maine where opportunities and options for growth are few and far between. I have a feeling that there are many McCain supporters who are reluctant to come out and say the real reason they won't support Obama and it has to do with the color of his skin.

What you and the republicans are participating in is the lowest form of democracy. Politics of fear, ignorance and hate have NO PLACE in OUR MAINE political process. This is not Dixie. WE are not racist . We are not holy rollers . We are not militarists and we are certainly not idiots . Remember , you reap what you sow.If the republicans have nothing to offer but playground bulliing , they will go down in flames . This is a new dawn in America . "Get out of the way if you can t lend a hand ."Thats from Bob Dylan, not Lee Grrenwood. What a disgusting bunch of small minded people you continually prove yourselves to be ..

Speaking of Lee Greenwood, isn't it desecrating the flag to wear a giant flag jacket like the one he was wearing at that Palin rally?

It wasnt an actual flag just...just flag printed material...which is fine. If a woman were to make a skirt dragging on the ground out of an Amerivan flag...now that is disrespectful...a model actual did that a few years ago and caught heck for it all over the media.

VOTE McCain...VOTE Obama I feel it is a personal issue...vote forever your heart tells you to...and stop fighting over it. The best man will win.

Firstly, Obama has NO executive EXPERIENCE. Sarah Palin is one of the most respected American governors-even Clinton and Bush had been govenors. Secondly, it does matter who your friends and associates are. Obama may have been a kid when Ayers bombed the Pentegon, but he lives just a block away and they regularly play golf, attend dinner parties, Obama annonced his political ambitions in AYERS' LIVING ROOM. And what about the anti-American "church" the Obamas attended for over 20 years, until just a few weeks ago? Thirdly, as Biden himself said twice, before he was nminated and again days ago, the world will test an unproven, young person with NO experience. Biden even predicts terrorism on American soil again.

Who cares about who wins. How is it going to help fat, poor and highly taxed Maine? THe only thing that will save Maine is that you guys stop eating fast food. I think they should tax, tax, tax the fat people in Maine. If your BMI is above 20 , you should be subject to redicule and a huge tax! Let's call it the MAINE FAT TAX! If your caught at a fast food joint and your BMI is above 25, then your put in the stocks where you can't get at any fast food or soda. Oh, and taxed double! If your BMI is above 30 and your seen pulling into Burger King, then your taxed triple and you automaticly forfiet your healthcare cause Maine people who stay in shape are sick of paying the healthcare costs for all the slobs in Maine. Sound good? As absourd as that sounds, I bet it would work!

Obamarx by himself would only be bad for the country. But him and a democrat controlled house and senate will be a disaster. McCain would help to keep things in balance in the government. This country is better off if neither party has full control.

pseym4 is your comment about the soda tax bill on this ballot? do you believe that people just might not buy soda and sweetened soft drinks so they won't have to pay tax on those items? Some people may some may not. I think what the real issue is with this bill is the fact that the state government didn't consult with the taxpayers of Maine and it made alot of people mad and distrustful of the government. By the way, some people are skinny by nature and some overweight by nature.

Let's not be voting for Dims or Repugs...They have brought us the slaughter in Iraq...One million dead Iraqis....another million refugees. $5 billion dollars a week wasted in Iraq. Let's not vote for anyone who thinks spying on Americans by their government is a good idea. Let's not vote for the Repugs and Dims who voted for the PATRIOT ACT that took away probable cause for arrest, denial of an attorney...........and now you don't even have to be charged with a crime to be arrested and jailed.

All thanks to Tom Allen, B. Obama, John McCain, Susan Collins, etc..

I would like the BDN to investigate the following information! Very interesting!

http://obamacrimes.com

Has anyone here heard about the lawsuit that Obama is involved with? Google it! Berg v. Obama It is scary! And it is true look it up! You can see all the official documents filed with the court at http://docs.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/pennsylvania/paedce/2:2008cv04083/281573/13/ . Apparently, Obama and the DNC are being sued for failure to produce proper documents of Obama's citizenship. When Obama's mom married Lolo, she took residency in Indonesia making her a citizen by residence and marriage. Per U.S. law any child under 18 follows the citizenship if their parents. And since Indonesia doesnt allow duel citizenship, you forfeit your other citizenship when you become a citizen their. She renounced her own and Obama's citizenship at that point. So he became an Indonesian citizen, which was the only way to make him eligable to school in the public system in Indonesia. This is further complicated by the fact that Lolo adopted him, making him a Indonesian citizen twice. He is even listed on his school records as being a citizen of Indonesia. Obama has never renounced his citizenship to Indonesia, and has never applied for naturilization in the states since his mom renounce her US citizenship. Thereby this make him ineligable to run for president. Read the court documents. It is far more elaborate then what I have time to list here, but well worth the read. Here everyone is making a fuss of his citizenship of Kenya, because of his father being a born citizen there, when it looks like this is where our focus should be. ***On a side note, I went to the Obama campaign site, you know, the fight the smears thing. No mention of the lawsuit is there, but there is plenty of coverage about it if you look. They did have a birth certificate listed on his site, but it didnt have an official seal, and the certificate number had been blackened out. Wonder why?

I think you Obama fans are in for a rude awaking. With all the facts that have come out about him you still think he is going to do wonders and turn this country around. He will turn it around alright but you will live to regret voting him in. He is all mouth, no heart for the USA and lies through his pearley whites. And I'm sick of people bringing the race issue up. The fact he is black is not the issue. I could care less what color his skin is but I do care about his character, and that tells me that he is nothing but BAD NEWS.

truthbox365: you can bring suit against anyone you want to.. it does not make the points in suit true...and the reason the numbers are blacked out is to keep it from being used illegally.... use your head for once

sewmama: you say that race is not the reason....do you really want a 72 year old man and an untested beauty queen to run the country....at least Obama has a brain in back of those pearly white...McCain and Palin don't have that between them

Guess no one will mind if I vote for McCain!

.

I can’t find any information on Obama that wasn’t put out by his supporters-

.

I am positive he will push law abiding citizens to hand over their arms-

.

I already know he is Pro-Abortion, not just middle-of-the-road, but rather the whole scrape-um, suck-um & bag-um total activist!

Wonder how he will explain that to his kids?

.

So, in short, he will want to disarm America, doesn’t support the death penalty for murders~ except to murder unborn babies, anyone that “ever” wins the lotto has to share it with everyone else, and your information is open to the public~ except his….

.

Also, how come the ACORN scam is allowed to continue, as well as some states allowing convicts and people with no ID vote~

Sorry, but as it stands,,, I have no more trust in our election process, & that kind of drops us from #1

.

Go here if you care to get more information.

Also, I would advise everyone to get a concealed weapons permist before ti is too late!

truthbox365: If this were a legitimate lawsuit don't you think McCain would be shouting it from the roof tops?

As to how "sorry" I will be for voting in Obama as President? Well, perhaps that may end up being true, but the republicans had their shot, and truly mucked things up beyond any example in American History. John McCain may not be Bush, but he says he will continue to do all the things Bush did to get us in this mess. I for one will not support that. This is my country too, and I have a right to support who I want, and I want Obama. If he wins, it is because a majority of fellow Americans feel the same way I do. So get used to the idea that republicans will not always win, and Americans are not as overtly 'conservative' as you thought. if you don't like that, might I suggest moving to a more 'conservative' country, perhaps somewhere in the middle east? Good luck!

Saltoria: I see that you didn't take your little morning happy pill this morning. I would recommend it because you have a whole lot of paranoia going on.

Mark44: do you really think that's he wants to take your guns we have the right to bear arms under the constitution and the constitution can not be change without a mandate of the states that means 2/3's of the states have to vote to change it...the president can't do that on his own...you need 34 states to vote a mandate and I for one don't see that happening....and really what do you need an AKC47 or other such gun for.....I was brought up hunting and was a member of the NRA....and still don't understand that...as for the abortion thing the bill he voted against was one that wanted to save to life of the child over the life of the mother in other words...the mother would have die to save to child....and what about the mothers right to life what about the childeren of that womans right to have their mother live....you all talk about to much goverment...well the goverment making that choice for anyone is to much .....

Wow, is this what America has come to?

Americans just flat out lying........

Trying to scare people with lies

This is incredible, I dont care if dem or R we are Americans and need to stop with this crap, I along with tens of thousands of other great Americans have gone to war and faught for this country and YOU. Many have died to give us this freedom we have, these are not just words.

Stop acting like Putin, and Hitler and Chevez an act American for Christ sakes.

As the second robocall from the McCain campaign starts in Maine (this one featuring Rudy Guiliani), it is important to note that the man responsible for the call itself, Jeff Larson, gave Susan Collins $1,000 last year. From opensecrets:

http://tiny.cc/P4Gfw

This same Jeff Larson is also the one who paid for Sarah Palin's $150,000 shopping spree.

So will Collins "urge" McCain to stop this call too? Will she resign as co-chair of McCain's campaign in Maine? Why is she so closely associated with these people?

I admit that some of Obamas positions appeal to me, if they are to be believed. Most positions do not. I am pro-life;he is pro-choice. I am pro-gun;he is (at least) anti-handgun. My problem with Obama is that I question his values. His ties to Ayres and others is a concern. I believe he is a socialist. Frankly, I do not believe anything he says. His policies will be more radical after he becomes President than he is telling us today. My biggest problem?: simply put, I question his Americanism. I was at odds with Hillary Clinton. I think she is a leftist, a manipulator, and a gangster, but I have never thought she was un-American. As for Obama, I have my doubts; it is my belief that he is un-American, has little respect for the flag or the Constitution, and generally finds this country to be a cancer on the earth's landscape ----- and has plans for us that Hamas and other anti-American groups would find quite appealing.

Sarah Palin is a respected governor? Since when? She is governor of what amounts to the real-world version of the island of misfit toys, Alaska is where all the freaks go when they can't hack life in the "lower 48", and what's more they are paid to live there while the tax dollars of people in the rest of the country flow like a waterfall into the state to keep it running. If "respected governor" means leader of a state full of welfare-sapping freaks who just don't fit in with normal society, then I'd have to agree, but otherwise I'm not sure that "respected" is the word. She couldn't even run her own town, she had to hire an outside "administrator" to handle the day-to-day, and even with the help bankrupted her town to pay for a hockey stadium for her brats to play hockey in. BTW, paying the citizens of your state (Palin raised the payment, keep in mind) while sapping the federal government for welfare dollars to run your state because the permanent fund more than eats up your state's tax revenue is more socialist than anything Barack Obama has ever even alluded to. Job experience doesn't amount to much if you suck at your job, now does it...

Barak Obama-The fresh prince of Bill Ayers

Truthbox365, WHERE ON EARTH did you ever go to school? One's American citizenship is determined by where one is born! His mother may have "renounced" or changed her citizenship when she moved to Indonesia but she couldn't renounce Barak's (it wasn't her's to renounce). There is an exception for a child being born outside the USA to still be a U.S. citizen and that's if the child is born on a U.S. military base or on U.S. land (such as in a U.S. embassy. Also, just because Lolo adopted Barak does NOT make Barak Indonesian. At the most, it would provide him with due-citizenship... not a bad thing as President when he'll be trying to negotiate with several world leaders of different cultures and nationalities.

BTW - did none of your teacher's teach you the difference between "their" - a possessive adjective and "there" - a place?

RocklandPhil, those are pretty strong words. Where are any acts to support them or are they JUST emotional opinions? It's time we start showing SOME intelligence in this state instead of kneejerk wild reactionary (aka crazy) attitudes - because it's that kind of ranting and raving that would make me think a gun in the hands of someone like you would be a danger in any room with someone who might voice a different opinion...something which the CONSTITUTION allows that person to do. What in heavens name makes you think Obama is UnAmerican? He talks AND listens to Middle income and Poor Americans and can identify with us because he came from us. McCain hasn't seen the middle or poor side of the road for so long he doesn't recognize it. He doesn't have any idea what the cost of groceries are, the cost of heating our homes, the cost of driving to work, the cost of public education - NONE of those prices have been a part of his life for over 40 years! Obama owns 1 (ONE) car - McCain owns at least 7. Obama owns and lives in the same ONE house. McCain owns at least 7 and lives in at least 3 of them - the others being rentals or investment properties. McCain's health care plan will be paid for by reducing Medicare and Medicaid and will STILL benefit the insurance companies and tax us, the recipients. Obama's plan gives us the option of retaining whatever we have IF WE WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY - or provide those who have no insurance with options. Perhaps you don't know it but those who have no insurance are still treated by emergency rooms and we the taxpayers have to underwrite those costs. Obama's plan is better for the taxpayers!

RocklandPhil: you really need to stop listening to Rush and Ann....because all they care about is the money they are making because you are listening to them...they care not about the fact that they are scaring the bejeaus out of good people... did you even think they are spreding this hate because they don't want there taxes to go up...these guys are millionaires....thinks about as you beleive the hate they spew....

Obama = The next Hitler, So I think the entire state, country and world will be sorry they voted for this post-modern coup. He is New World Order all the way. Did you hear Biden predict a major international crisis if Obama comes into power. This will be to test him. The mainstream brain-wash media system keeps saying that Obama will face a major attack and it could be nukes. Last time Biden "predicted" a major attack was on Sept. 10th 2001, the day before 9/11. They most know some stuff we do not. The major elite of the world are preparing for a human population reduction. This could be done by several methods, but one thing we know is Homeland Security has put vaccination stations at major airports including here in Bangor. Its secret, but when a false flag operation happens, like the release of a flu perhaps we will be forced to take this shot that will help kill us. These people are crazy, I mean look what they did on 9/11. They killed thousands of Americans. The next 9/11 will kill millions. 9/11 was state sponsored by our government. Obama wants you and your family dead! Why is the BDN not talking about the current Army Brigades who are now active in the USA to combat civil unrest and crowd control. Get ready to use your guns and make sure to have food and water. Americans are being led into the slaughter house.

At best I think we all can agree that we all have hot buttons~

.

Mine happen to be:

I’d rather have six in the chamber, than six pallbearers at my funeral: Under Obama’s “clearly stated position” he is “VERY MUCH” anti-gun, and that includes protection from intruders into your home! & Yes, what about those people that own “YOUR” objectionable weapons ????

Kind of opens up the question, can I object, and/or pass a law preventing a Democrat moving in next to me???

.

As far as the abortion issue: I’d rather see a con get a hot needle, than a baby get hovered!

.

As far as the stripper McCain had a fling with, I “STILL don’t see Obama releasing “Any” documents that all presidential candidates have done to date~ what about that, is he somehow immune to review before the election?

.

As far as hate~ That my Democrat friends You have exercised equally!!!

.

DanielSchwartz, I recommend that you contact a mental health professional immediately. It really is time to ask for help. They won't inject you with something to "help kill you." I promise.

Maine Crisis Hotline - 1-888-568-1112

, Mark44 what Obama want is locks on your hand guns so your kids can blowing there heads off while you're not looking....so I guess maybe he's looking out for your kids right to life...because you've got a loaded gun in the house.....and he wants to make it harder for people to get assault weapons

what does and every day Joe need with a machine gun...it's over kill......

that should said can't blow their head off

FYI, it's not as if when Hitler was grabbing for power he hid his intentions. His notions of "worldwide Jewry" and his aspirations to rid the world of it were apparent long before he ever came to power. It was the conspiracy theorists, in fact, that gave rise to him, because their notion that Germany had lost world war I because of a global Jewish conspiracy caught on in the post-war German society at large. The large majority of Germans knew that Hitler was an anti-semite and the majority of Germans were themselve pretty anti-semitic at the time, because the power structures within Germany at the time of the treaty of Versailles were largely controlled by Jews. Did they know what was going to happen as far as the holocaust goes, probably not, but it's not as if Hitler disquised his intentions. Lots of people compare Obama to Hitler, but the comparisons are always based on blatently incorrect history. Where are the fear-tactics and hate-mongering present in the Obama campaign to date? The only people using fear tactics and stirring up hate against ethnic groups at this point is the Republican National Comittee and the McCain campaign, so if anyone were to compare to Hitler it would be them.

Searoses: Not even close~ He has stated, and on more than one occasion that he is “anti-gun” and looks to the day when we can live in a gun free society!

.

As far as abortion- What no pithy comeback, that’s because he is very pro-abortion. Obama would rather kill a baby than a convicted murderer, Yeah, and I’m the evil republican!?!?!???

.

Gunlocks- I have them on all mine, including those that the anti-gun crowd feel are “bad”

"I" never had a problem, but those that posses them illegally always seem to fuel your fire~ kind of odd, don’t ya think!

Chief Executive, Issue Date: September/October 2008, Posted On: 10/8/2008

Debate Over, By ED Kopko

It is clear job-creating Business leaders chose McCain over Obama largely because his policies are seen as pro-growth, whereas Obama’s policies are viewed as redistributive and anti-growth.

http://www.chiefexecutive.net/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=D49EB4E0273F4A45A3BACDD3CDD1F6F0

For some months during this Presidential election year, Chief Executive has conducted specialized polling of CEOs’ attitudes on issues affecting national policy and the economy. In CE’s most recent poll in September, 751 respondents, more than double the usual number of business leaders, made their voices heard on their Presidential choice.

By a four-to-one margin CEOs support Senator John McCain over his rival, Senator Barack Obama. More to the point, a thundering 74 percent majority say they fear the consequences of an Obama presidency, compared to only 19 percent who fear a McCain presidency.

Obama's redistributive tax plan, higher corporate tax rates, and anti-growth business policies will prolong our recession by one to two years.

1. Redistributive taxes decrease business expansion and new business startups. These taxes are a disincentive for people to assume risk and become entrepreneurs.

2. Higher business taxes provide an incentive for corporations, that can leave the U.S., to relocate offshore. Those that cannot relocate will pass higher operating costs onto consumers. Those that cannot relocate or pass along higher costs will reduce operating costs by reducing employees to operate leaner.

Obama, his campaign staff, his left wing websites and his news media are vicious partisan attack dogs. Everyday they have attacked and smeared McCain, his wife Cindy, Palin and her family, and now Joe Wurzelbacher a plumber in Ohio.

Obama, and his news media, especially NBC and MSNBC, and all the vicious left wing websites have attacked, smeared, and destroyed Joe Wurzelbacher (a plumber in Ohio) just for asking Obama a question. All of America, except the brainwashed Obama voters, now know that his redistributive tax plan and his corporate tax increase will extinguish the entrepreneurial spirit that built America.

In Obama’s America people will be afraid to ask Democratic Party politicians questions for fear of being destroyed by it’s supportive and protective news media.

Thanks for the info. Departmentalization seems to be working. Obama and McCain are the same. They are both working for the same global interest. I should say that if McCain gets in it might help slow down this coming global world with one currency and world population reduction because he will be a lame duck. Not a lot of people like him and it might help slow down some of the polices. If Obama wins than because so many people are behind him and trust him, he can work more quickly at destroying America. Unless we start taking back control at the local level and holding our representatives accountable than we're not doing our job.

"We live in a dirty and dangerous world. There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn't. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets, and when the press can decide whether to print what it knows."

-- Katherine Graham, Washington Post publisher and Bilderberger

"We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order."

- David Rockefeller

"A total world population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal."

Ted Turner, in an interview with Audubon magazine.

Drink up; this one will leave you wanting http://www.freedom21.com/deweese_su.asp

Mark44 : I've listen to or read almost all speeches that he your John MCcain and not once have I seen or heard the word anti gun..from either of them...

I'm glad you have gun locks on your gun It prove that you're not as pig headed as thought you were....and I have no problem with you being a republican..my father's one....so I was brought up republican...and I'm very conservative about things like welfare and stuff like that...The McCain camp. seam to be being every thing it can to divide this country by calling parts more American than others...because I'm a democart does that make me un-american?...and does voting for Obama give someone the right to say I'm going to hell.?..I may go to hell but i dought it will because I vote for Obama...

Country 1st means more then things McCain is saying and doing...country 1st means stop trying to split us bring us together ...HOPE and I've put my hope in a young black man...from Hawii I see no HOPE with McCain just fear

DanielSchwartz, Do you live in Maine? If not, ask for help in your home state or ask the doctor in the ward you're in to adjust your medication. You seem paranoid.

Maine Crisis Hotline - 1-888-568-1112

gaiser: do you realy think McCain is going to do any better for Maine. i doubt it. What we deed is a clean slate.

Obama Said What?

.

Mark44, that freedom21 link is truly terrifying... Not because I believe anything that guy is saying, but because you -- and presumably others -- do believe it.

It is sad that the people of Maine are dealing with what a democratic governor does, tax tax tax spend spend spend and those who want the Democrats to run the country beware you are going to find it worse

I am proud to be an Obama supporter. Conservatives truly believe that they are Pro-American and Obama supporters are Anti-American. Let's see: Obama is accussed of being a terrorist, anti american, muslim, nazi, marxist and I have probably missed some more claims. You people are sounding so desparate, you will throw anything out there and hope something sticks. We have had to endure the past 8 years of Bush policies that have ended us in 2 wars, a crumbled economy, crumbling healthcare system, increasing jobless rates...I am done with your policies, I want a change that I CAN believe in because I CANNOT believe your conservative policies any longer.

Mark44: I when to your website what a joke you can tell the damn video is doctored i don't beleive much that comes from you tube....anyone can put anything on there and do....why don't you try factcheck.com it funded by the republican walter annanburg foundation...

Then your saying this means nothing?

Congress Moves To Seize Control Of All U.S. Waters

.

From Bathtubs To Baptismal Fonts, Congress Moves To Give the Corps of Engineers Control Of All U.S. Waters

.

Issue: Having been slapped down by the U. S. Supreme Court's recent decision that the words "navigable waters" in the Clean Water Act limited federal agencies to regulation of navigable waters only. Democrats and liberal Republicans in Congress are striking back.

.

They are attempting to pass the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007 (HR2421 and S1870) that would amend the 1972 Clean Water Act and replace the words "navigable waters" with "waters of the United States." Further, it defines "waters of the United States" with such breathtaking scope that federal agencies would be required to regulate use of every square inch of the U.S., both public and private.

.

The proposed definition states: "The term 'waters of the United States' means all waters subject to ebb and flow of the tides, the territorial seas, and all interstate and intrastate waters and their tributaries, including lakes, rivers, streams (including intermittent streams), mudflats, sand flats, wetlands, sloughs, prairie potholes, wet meadows, playa lakes [a flat dried up area, esp. a desert basin.] natural ponds and all impoundment of the foregoing, to the fullest extent that these waters are subject to the legislative power of Congress under the Constitution."

.

Right on cheeta!

Come on, guys! You can still call yourselves "conservatives" even if you do vote for Obama, if you tell anyone at all that is... I mean you can say that you were sick and tired of Bush's failed "policies" and because you were so tired of McCain voting with Bush 90 percent of the time you wanted a change!

Give Obama a chance... What do we have to lose?

Mark44, if you calmed down for a minute and thought about this logically:

How in God's Green Earth could the Army of Engineers take control of "all of the water in the US," when they couldn't even control the water in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina? No one wants to "control" your water, Mark44.

You guys have to be trolls, because if mark44 and DanielSchwartz are actually McCain supporters and go around talking about "Common-ism" and mysterious plots to "control the water, I just don't know what to say anymore.

I am speechless. McCain's supporters are apparently just bonkersville, and if there are more of you than there are Obama supporters, then I suppose this country will get what it deserves.

PS: Daniel, there is a monster behind you!

Ok..so Now we are going to start calling each other 'nuts', 'un-American', and 'Worse than Hitler'. This is exactly what our enemies want us to do, it is far easier to defeat a foe when you can divide the ranks first. Are we really this immature? Politically speaking, Americans always disagree, and thank God we have the right to do that here, but do we always have to degenerate a legitimate debate into false arguments and name calling? Obama is not a muslim and even if he were he is an American. Muslim American soldiers have died for this country just as readily as any others, so just keep that in mind when you decide to use that as an argument. MSNBC is as left wing as FOX is right wing, and they both have their audience, so I suggest we just get over it and grow up. The biggest difference between left and right that I can see is that when the left lost elections, they opted to leave, and now that the right is losing one, we hear calls for gathering arms and stock pilling for the revolution. Good job, way to forget that we are ALL Americans, and it is exactly our differences that makes us special and unique in the world. Thats why folks still line up to get here, so lets not lose our selves here.

LoriInMachias, if you even briefly look at the literature that I referred to about secret conspiracies who want to, for example, "control all the water" in the country... Come on. That's not debate on the issues, that's just plain kooky! But if you want to discuss anything besides the discussion, please start your engines ... ;-)

But good post, LoriInMachias... May I ask who gets your vote?

DanielSchwartz, calling Obama the next Hitler is a shande! Take your blinders off. You should be very, very, VERY ashamed of yourself! So irresponsible. Please go and have your head examined. Obama has nothing, NOTHING to do with 9/11. Just horrible. I can't believe what I'm reading. What an abuse of free speech. Despicable.

Why is it I see more McCain signs in the Bangor, Wash county and Hancock areas than Obama?? Ive been taking a tour this week.

Markko, I sincerely hope you're right about these guys being trolls. Whatever they are, if it comes down to the government wanting to kill them, then their shotguns, machine guns, and whatever other weaponry they've managed to collect won't stop a guided missile. They think "Oh, the government is going to come kill us, so I'm gonna protect myself in my hut in the woods!" I say good luck with all that. Most likely the government doesn't give a flying rat's ass about them. Unless, of course, they start shooting those guns at innocent people. They're all a bunch of fear-mongering, paranoid, poorly educated tools of the far right which uses them to promote their own anti-government, anti-tax schemes. Turn off enough voters, and they can continue to cling to power with a tiny mandate to continue sapping all that is good out of this society to further enrich themselves.

Yo man, check it out! I saw a SteveyDee sign today! It read, "Slow Children Playing"!

BCBob, there is no possible way I could have said it myself!

SteveyDee... ya suppose McCain's campaign is putting more money into signs because he is losing? And Obama is not because they figure Maine is a done deal?

To all of those who are freakin out about their guns...... we have heard this all before when Clinton got elected! So, let me ask you..... did your guns get taken away then? Thought not! When I worked in law enforcement in the 90"s I only wished that it would have happened because SOME people are absolutely not mentally fit to possess them. Much like the paranoid few in here!

Gee, DanielSchwartz: I believe when you talk about "start taking back control at the local level and holding our representatives accountable than we're not doing our job" that this is called socialism? You know the very thing that Obama is proposing at the federal level yet you and others are so against!

It absolutely cracks me up that people seriously think that McCain is going "to fix this country" for the simply fact that he is critical of Bush now about spending trillions of dollars and leaving it for the taxpayers and future generations. And you know what his answer is on how to fix that? Oh, that's right.... he has none! He is not going to fix this economy when he wants to continue these wars that are costing all of us billions each month!

Oh, bu the way..... I'm Joe the Plumber and I approve this message!

elmerfudd: Just curious; do you have a position regarding the 2nd Amendment that you would care to share with us? If not, that's fine too.

cickeroo: I absolutely do not believe everyone has the RIGHT right to possess and bear arms! Look at what is happening across the country with kids and college students possessing guns and then feeling the need to take people out.

elmerfudd: Thanks for your response. I feel that law abiding citizens have the right to lawfully possess and use firearms, please note the words law abiding and lawfully. The types of incidents you describe certainly do not fall into those categories. For starters, we need to see better enforcement of existing laws, such as those that make it a felony for a person who is legally prohibited from possessing firearms (convicted felons etc.) from even attempting to possess a firearm. Not too long ago a woman was charged here in Maine with purchasing firearms for two or three men from Massachusetts who were prohibited from possessing firearms. She hasn't yet had her day in court, but I'm interested to see how that case unfolds.

Mark44:

Look into mountaintop mining, and you'll understand why "navigable waters" is too limited in scope.

Also, most every small waterway that is not navigable deposits into one that is - pollution can come from many small sources, and make larger bodies poisoned.

Do you fish? Do you swim in lakes? This act would protect those uses.

chickeroo: And, for the same reason as yours is why I said "not everyone has the right."

Gerald I will say this, unlike your less evolved liberal counterparts, you are at least cognizant to the fact that this initiative exists!

.

I have a feeling we may have similar energy backgrounds, but we can touch on that another day.

.

I have a deep feeling that the 2nd Amendment is in real danger if Obama gets in, and that the same people that back him on this are totally ok with sucking a baby through a tube, but are appalled at the thought of capital punishment.

.

Is it me, or is there a double standard there…..

.

Mark44: I hope that you are holding onto your pill bottle as tightly as you are to your paranoia!

Searoses, I use my head, I guess there is a difference in the parts that I use and what you use. I use my brain and my eyes which is something you seem to lack the ability to do. You, use your mouth, though not very intelligently. Need a napkin for that drool? Yes, anyone can file suit for any reason, however the points have merit where the court finds it. Giving the order the Judge gave Obama today, I am sure he found merit.

LoriInMachias, I am not sure why the McCain camp isnt using this information, other then everytime they point out something that is legit it is called mud slinging, hate endorsement, or racism. There was enough credibility to the claim that the presiding Judge denied Obamas & the DNC's motion to dismiss, stating that there was "good cause" for action. This order was issued today. Further Obama was ordered by the Honorable R. Barclay Surrick to surrender a "vault" version of his origional birth ceritificate, a copy of his certification of U.S. Citizenship, and a copy of Obama's Oath of Allegiance.

Glenna, I went to school right here in Maine. Got my BA at UMO and went on to Harvard Law. Maintained a 4.0 too! Indonesian law did not allow dual citizenship prior to 2006, part of their law is that you renounce your former citizenship when you gain that status there, which is what Ann Dunham did. Further, Indonesian adoption laws state that once adopted the child's legal ties with the birth parent is severed and the child becomes a natural citizen of Indonesia. (Indonesian Constitution Article II) The other half of the issue has to do with the way our citizenship laws work. Children follow the citizenship of their parents, if the parent renounces their US status then the child of said parent does as well. (Nationality Act of 1940 Section 317(b)) And since this wasnt a military family situation as was the case in Holander vs. McCain any laws that grant military families protection, would not apply. At this point, paper work would have needed to been filed with the US State Department to apply and follow the procedures for Obama to become a "naturalized" citizen, since this wasnt done, he is an illegal alien. So perhaps before you question someone's educational background for a simple error of grammer, you should do your homework to make sure the theme of which you speak is accurate. Dont attempt to educate someone on laws you know nothing about.

LOL.....there, i guess he/she told you!!!

I went to Yale and had a 4.0! No wait, it was a 100.0 at Stanford! A million point oh at Columbia! I'm the smartest person here, because I say so!!

Blah Blah Blah...OMG you all need to take a CHILL PILL...and go HUG someone!!!!

truthbox365... The point I was trying to make was you have to use common sense. Even I as a drooling idiot knew that a legal document would have the numbers blacked, out to protect it and the owner whom ever they may be from having said document be used unscrupulously ….and you should have known that too. now that I know how educated you profuse to be you should know that the law prohibits the website from doing so…and may I ask what are you so afraid of I know I fear more of the same and the hate of the RNC…I see Obama as hope for better things to come..Just HOPE

If you fear more of the same, then lets elect new officials. I am never going to say Bush has done a job deserving of another term, but he only has 1/3 of the power in the last 8 years. The other 2/3 were controlled by the house and senate, which Democratic Liberals had the controling powers. Unhappy with they way things are? Now you know who to share the blame with. So lets oust them all and start fresh.

All presidents have been tested during their presidency. Biden wants everyone to realize the gravity and reality of this well known fact. If McCain is elected then he will also be tested, just like the rest. New World Order? LOL where does that come from, are you for real DanielSchwartz? I get a kick out of all these fancy cliches "New World Order, Post-modern Coup, major elite, etc." you all have read these same freaky cliches on the BDN articles. Obama does not want our families dead as suggested by DanielSchwartz. This is another statement of violence that is terribly disturbing and it is not welcome nor does it have any place in politics. Vote for the STRONGEST team that you believe will do the best job in running this beautiful country. People are tired of this long, drawn out war. Haven't our troops done enough already? It is time to thank our troops for all of their hard work and the lives that were lost by supporting a president who will initiate and implement a solid, well-defined time frame for the safe return of our soldiers.

You'd think that a guy who "went on to Harvard Law. Maintained a 4.0 too!" would know how to keep his facts straight:
