Volunteers avert fire while getting out the vote

By The Associated Press

FARMINGDALE, Maine — The Maine Democratic Party says two of its volunteers saved a home from going up in flames when they were going door-to-door in Farmingdale.

Two volunteers were canvassing a neighborhood as part of a get-out-the-vote effort Tuesday morning when they spotted smoke coming from a townhouse. They called 911 and firefighters broke down a door to gain entry.

Cheryl Ladd told party officials that a pot of chicken soup that she had inadvertently left on the stove boiled over. She said firefighters told her home could have gone up in flames if they hadn't been alerted when they were.

Leave it to democrats to take credit for something they had little to do with. You want to impress. Those 2 should have called AND put hte fire out.

Jake, at least the good thing is is that nobody got hurt. And i am sure the woman was grateful regardless of how the fire was stopped, that she still has her home. And as for the firefighters who responded, i am sure they had a sense of release when they got on scene because there is nothing like seeing someones house totally up in flames and your defenseless to save it. Good job volunteers.

What a great human interest story with all of the crap that we have been reading the last few months...Great Job and Kudos to the two volunteers!...and jake opening up the apt. without the proper tools to quickly put out the fire could have created a disaster....I am impressed!
