Let me see if I understand this ........ "Food Stamps"?????? Does the word sound like SODA?

When did toilet paper become a luzury? Can't use food stamps for this purpose but can buy soda and chips! Something is very wrong here!

I believe food stamps should allow for basic necessities such as toilet paper and soap. The problem with banning soda frome food stamps is this;

Where do you stop at what is considered acceptable and what is not? People who use food stamps can also buy candy,frozen dinners,ice cream, etc..

Hopefully people will make healthy choices and treats are ok, even if a family is on food stamps. I think the American public in general needs to choose

better for their diets. And yes that includes my family too. We all should focus on healthier eating in our own domestic households.

Every US citizen is guaranteed the same rights, even if they're on food stamps.

Soda should be a privilege one gets when they are able to buy it with money.

It could be set up like WIC. People can only buy approved food. Candy, soda, and all the other junk type foods shouldn't be allowed.

I have always felt that food stamps should be set up differently, for instance toilet paper, soap, female protection items etc. a certain percentage. meats and dairy another percentage, produce etc. I think a VERY small percentage should be allowed for luxury items such as candy chips and soda. I have seen too many people run in to a store with their food stamps and walk out with absolutely nothing healthy just a cart full of junk. I also feel that before receiving food stamps people should be taught to use them wisely, many people don't know how to shop and use their money/ stamps to get the best deal.

Food stamps should mimic WIC exactly. WIC is designed to assist people and Food Stamps are designed to make people dependent on my paycheck! BAN! BAN! BAN! I am a person who is an active contributor to society and recently called adelphia for connection of Cable TV. There first question was; "Do you receive any type of assistance from the state of Maine? If you do you may qualify for the reduced rate for premium cable networking." I've got a problem with that!!! This country is a disaster and we will all reap the benefits from this beauraucratic pile of turd they call general assistance. I am done dealing with this! Poeple walking through town making babies make more money then a college graduate.

Keep big brother out of the decision process.

It's time you people get off your high horse and stop with the divisions of society. There are thousands of people out there working 2 and sometimes 3 jobs just trying to make ends meet who are on food stamps. Are you gonna tell these people they're not allowed to have soda and chips because they don't deserve it? What about our disabled friends who are on foodstamps at no fault of their own, and yes, this includes our military personel who are coming back so severely wounded and missing limbs. Are you going to tell them they don't deserve it? How about the mother who needs gingerale for her sick child who cannot hold food down and all of the hospitals that give it to their patients. Have you been to the supermarket lately? Do you seriously not realize that it is actually A TREAT to be able to have fruit at these high prices? What's next? The banning of Trick or Treating? Especially for those on foodstamps?

I truly sympathize with the people working 2 and 3 jobs and still needing assistance. But the baby factories Momma's far outnumber those people who are trying to support their families. Instead of arguing over soda I think the State needs to implement birth control programs as part of welfare assistance eligibility. I would like to know the statistic's of supposedly "single" women who already have a child/children but magically keep getting pregnant. Must be immaculate conception!!! If you are receiving assistance....NO MORE CHILDREN until you are in the position to support them!!!
