This is a national disgrace, I live in Florida and we have hundreds of these pedophyle teachers raping pre-puberty children. Of late it's mostly old uglyass women teachers raping little 9 year old boys. What are they teaching in teacher's college now days? We had one teacher that was "too beautiful" to go to prison for multiple rapes! They let her go home and she re-offended..... . I agree with Harrry and I am a woman. I think her sentence should be much longer, she should be ordered to enter a sexual offender's program and that she be listed on the National Sexual Offender list for much longer than 10 years! I know of an individual who had sexual relations with a young girl and his sentence and probation are much longer and he will be listed in the registry for a much longer period of time, perhaps life. He was convicted of different charges, but that should not make a difference - it was not forciable rape that he was convicted of doing. However, I do not agree with the men who stick up for this person, saying she "came on to him." He too, was in a position of "teaching."

I despise those who take advantage of children sexually - sexual predators. Predators are both male and female, although statistically, men are more often convicted of these sort of sex crimes. This woman violated a trust. I will never understand what an adult sees in a child - she definitely needs professional help and I feel very sorry for her family - especially her children. Tina Mason is GUILTY... what mother didn't tell is Tina had a 2 day court in Calais where the victim had to testify in front of a judge for DHS and she sat and laughed. Tina Mason lost custody of her boys at that time but again she shuns it off as her husband did, she went home and continued living with her family. DHS again fell on their faces and didn't follow-up on this case, just this week Tina was at the Elm Street school with her children and no supervision. I agree if Tina wasn't guilty she shouldn't have taken a plea thinking she would do no jail time. The only good in this is now the victim doesn't have to get up and testify as he did in Calais. She is a sick person and this is not a just punishment but see what a plea can get ya. So mother hope you don't have any little boys that you don't mind leaving alone with her.

DHS is what it is, but I find it very hard to believe that they tell anyone to plead guilty or they will never see their children again. That dosen't even make any sense. You would want to fight , if you are innocent, so you can Keep your children. Stands to reason anyone would want the kids to be with an innocent parent rather then a guilty one, even DHS.

I don't believe DHS told her to plead guilty, I think after the judge in that case found as he did Tina realised that the next trial would also find her guilty as charged.

I know the case, Tina & the trial. The first felony charges were intercourse and blow jobs. I was told by someone in the courtroom the teen was not laughing in court as Mother said. If she lied about this--can you believe anything she says? He smirked inappropriately, when his sister leaned over to say something to him. He did not look at Tina, but looked straight ahead across the courtroom at the wall. It appeared Tina was wearing a wig and had a large tattoo on her neck and back.

Let us hope her children and not 13 year old boys. Tina had gotten away with this crime and had moved onto other teenage boys in her Lubec school. Ask Mother about the parties at Tina's house for Tina's girls basketball team she was coaching, where her husband served beer.

Ask Mother why Tina was texting and emailing her students continuously, spending more time in contact with them after school than in class.

Ask Mother why Tina kept in contact with the boys even after she was fired and under investigation by the Sheriff's Dept. Why she told them her husband was divorcing her. I would think that info is a need to know fact.

Okay, I think some of us are upset over the punishment dealt out by the courts. Whether she did it or not and only took a plea deal, the result should have been the same, "she was found guilty"! And in my opinion, the punishment didn't fit the crime that she was charged with, period. Guilty is guilty, no matter how you get there, and the sentence dealt out should fit.

I believe in equal pay for equal work, and equal time for equal crime.

Under our system (The American way) if you cop a plea, you are guilty of the charge you accepted during the plea (usually a lesser charge than made at time of arrest). In my long experience with the justice system NO innocent defendent cops a plea that would give them more time than a guilty verdict by the court.

Copping a plea (for the benefit of family friends, or employer.) especially for a teacher, is a cowards way out. Standing in the face of adversity "teaches" young people not to fold at the first sign of trouble.

Finally, fingerprinting and background checks don't seem to be doing the job. Many innocent people have given up their freedom, privacy, and their jobs to prevent this type of incident. but it continues.

People sometimes, ( more than we realize) will take the plea because even though they are innocent, x-amount of days is much better than x- amount of years, because sadly to say, innocent people do go to jail and serve prison sentences, more than we will ever realize. How scared and frightened an innocent person must feel, what agony must they have to go through to make that decision. politicallyincorrect: I am that Harry from Eastport, and a registered life time sex offender. Also served most my four year jail sentence, after being found guilty, of one count of 'unlawful sexual contact' of a minor. I did not take the plea bargain of six months offered. I spent a considerable sum of money just to find out how corrupt this system is, but it was worth it, and the time in jail was not that bad, for l was not alone, if you can understand that. While money was not an issue, l had three good Lawyers refuse to take my case, which left me wondering at the time why a person would turn down the chance to earn $200.00, to $400.00 an hour, seems they knew something l did not. Anyway the DA, has three different ways (Grand Jury-District Court-Or Superior Court) to proceed, and in my case, directly to Superior Court, where a Jury of mostly women, took about two hours, including the Trial time, to find me guilty as charged, beyond a reasonable doubt, simply upon the word of one young girl, as their was no evidence. If true, its a damn sad story, but not half as bad as it will be for others, for we must all meet our maker at some point, and if his commandment is binding, l would not want to be in their shoes. As l have said before, this Justice system of King James Law, is corrupt.

As learn2listen stated, Tina did send a senior a flower, which proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back for her. There had been allegations in the past....for quite along time....that there were things going on....but no proof until the flower incident. I have a child who had her as a teacher about 5 years ago and I talked with them about this the other day. My child told me of her "flirting" with other boys in the class (7th & 8th graders)....I'm sure learn2listen and lbckool has heard of other incidents...or maybe some other students will come on here and say what they know.....unfortunately, the statute of limitations has probably run out for some allegations. I just find it ironic that people say she isn't like that.... Sex offenders aren't going to do things out in the open...they hide it very well...OBVIOUSLY! And she was in a position of authority and these are young children trusted her...because she is an adult and was a teacher. BUT, this child came forward and said something happened AND she lost her job as a teacher because of an investigation by both the school and the sheriff's dept....and obviously they had enough evidence to warrant charges. Fingerprinting is done for ALL staff....if there have been no convictions for a certain teacher/staff member as a sex offender, then it will not show up when a background check is done.

The only reason I can see that she coped a plea was because she thought she wouldn't get any jail time. LubecTaxPayer, how could you be more ignorant? I had Tina Mason as a teacher for two years. I know pretty much all the kids that she has taught at Lubec high school. Tina did in fact take her job seriously; you could also tell that she cared for her students education and safety.

I very well know the girls who were in Tina's basketball team. They were never treated to parties that included Tina's husband serving them alcohol. Where the hell are you getting your information? I'm sure that if that situation actually happened, it would have ended up very bad. Lubec is a serious school... despite the terrible rumors that get shared among people who haven't even experienced it. We all know each other very well, and if any parties took place, everyone would have found out and it would have become a critical issue.

As for rumors of being involved with other boys? Especially from Lubec high school? Hahaha. That's a wild observation. Tina was first questioned because she sent a student a candy-o-gram during Valentines day. There was no other proof of sexual abuse among anyone outside of Lubec or any of the students who go there. And, do you yourself have any proof of the things that happened between Tina and that 13-year-old boy anyway? No, you don't. You have no right to say anything.

You all just want to believe that she's such a bad person because you read that she's been accused of this crime. And I bet the only true thing you care about when it comes to this situation is the social stigma aspect of it. You truly believe everything the news tells you, even without proof! Ok, I hardly ever comment but couldn't help myself, I am a female sex offender and have commented often on the retroactive stuff and that not everyone on the sex offender registry is a pedophile, but this women sounds to me like a very sick individual, she needs to be punished and she needs some professional help. If not you can count on her doing it again. Sounds to me like she has a mental illness, that has stunted her emotional and mental growth so that she is attracted to teenage boys. It shouldn't be whether she is nice or not, she is SICK, she needs to be put away to get some help.

I don't particularly care about the definition of pedophile, prepubescent or sex offender. It is beyond my scope of understanding to how this woman got thirty days and a 400 dollar fine. The majority of men and women posting on here are correct: If this was a male molesting a young girl, the case would be cut and dry, the man would be put in jail for years, which is fairly deserved. How can this possibly happen? 30 days for this offense? I am stunned. 400 bucks? This has turned into a joke. I don't care if the young boy begged her for whatever she gave him; HE IS A YOUNG BOY. Anonymous - you obviously made a mistake - big one - and paid for that. Here is a question though, do you know the woman in this current story? Are you sure that all the "stories" that you have read here is true? Or just ideal gossip? For me, I don't know. If they are true, I question just like you, why did not something happen way before this? Why wait until something goes horribly wrong. When this happened to you, was there stories being told about you? All I'm saying is no one here should sit in judgement of anyone without cold hard facts and even then, not our place. I know someone that is a registered sex offender and when the truth of his story is told, it puts things in a different light. I'm not saying that is the case here - I really don't know. The light sentence lies more with the DA's office's inability to prosecute even the most basic cases with an abundance of evidence. The Sheriff's Department is doing a good job collecting office. We finally have an honest Sheriff in Donnie Smith.

If you do not agree with 30 days, then you will be angrier to learn Tina Mason will be out of jail in approximately 10 days for good behavior. Check out similar crimes in other counties and states. Tina Mason would and should be serving years in prison, not days in jail.

We need to change the end result of cases like Tina's by voting out the DA and all who continue to hand out no sentences/light sentences to criminals.

For those who condone or ignore Tina Mason's crimes, they are enabling her to continue to offend. So far, Tina has not owned up to her crimes. How long before she is in the news again if she has not learned her lesson and those around her continue to enable her to commit crimes?

I wonder why the 'students' parents' names have not been mentioned?? They are obviously bad influences on their son. Tina has been partying with them, and God knows what this boy has seen (If you know what I mean?!) I have known the father for years and he has a reputation for "playing" with young girls. The father has taught his sons about women and 'how' to touch them. Tina definitely made some poor choices, but I think she's just fallen in with the WRONG people!!

There will always be crime. When the crime was reported by school officials, the Sheriff's Dept. made an investigation and presented a solid case to the DA's. The DA, with a solid case, filed felony charges for intercourse with the teen & bjs. The DA's office offered a deal to Tina Mason instead of going to a jury trial. TM took the deal and got off easy. This is in the court records.

Where does the fault lie for the short sentence? With the DA's office. They have a history of doing this and will continue to do this if allowed by the voters.

You are right PGOME1. The children are the victims here. Not the adults. Everyone in this community needs to work together help these kids go on normally with their lives. It's not helping them by our gossiping and venting on this page. I think everyone got their points across.

I know a lot of people hope that this woman gets counseling - I know the normally DHS will require that if she wants to get her children back - and if she does not, she will not be able to see them. From all I have heard, she does love her children and I think for that sake alone, she will do whatever is needed to keep them. I know a lot of people think that the system failed and she is getting off easy - just remember - two sides to every story and what everyone should really want is for this to only move forward and everyone be given the chance to heal - obviously the boy and his family but this woman's family also. Her small boys does not deserve to hear this gossip or feel like they can not live in this community - especially when her sentence is done. There will be things behind the scenes that none of you will be aware of. Also, some of you have said they knew this woman, trusted her and I know you are all angry now but I hopefully you also want to see her get help too (not condoning what she did at all - never) because these things don't happen unless there are issues to be resolved. I can not imagine what either of these families are going through and my thoughts & prayers go out to them all. Let go of the rumors and gossip and let your town heal. Good luck to you all.

While l was in prison, this child mother moved in with yet another man, Number 12 l think, and shortly thereafter this man's teenage son, got her youngest Daughter (whoi was underage), in the family way. But as in everthing, some good came of this situation also, This youngest daughter finally found out who her Father really is. Darthcyclonis...I know exactly where you are coming from. It really ticks me off too. My father was 51 when I was born and our Mother died when I was 18 months old...So Dad worked hard and instilled that in all of us kids and thank the good Lord I married a man like him. Dad was born in 1913 so he went through the depression and took all the jobs he could. He was a man of morals...and loved in the town of Lubec. My family goes way back. I do a lot of genealogy. I love it. I have the vital statistics of Lubec if you ever need anything on your family. Sorry I got off the subject. lol I Love our school. I worked there for a while and believe me there were a couple of bad apples in that system, but most of the teachers are great and wonderful with the kids. As far as the taxes go...I do understand....but believe me when you meet a true life long Lubecer you can't help but love us..Daddy told me in his time if someone in town was shingling or building a house the neighbors were always there to help and loved every minute of it. I stayed with my father or should I say he stay with us ; all his life to take care of him and took nursing classes just so I would know how to take care of him since he took such good care of me. It does make me mad about some of the people on welfare because they are able to work!!! My Dad got about $350.00 in Social security a month and it makes me mad that people do take advantage of the system. I don't have any use for people like that and I am not long telling them. (bad habit of mine) Our school is the heart of our community. I love the school. I am just so worried about the eldery paying more taxes because we have to pay tuisition plus pay taxes on the elementary end that is going to stay here. I and my children love the teachers and the one on one they get from them and if I have to pay a little more in taxes...so be it. It will be hard but save a little here and there I guess. I also pay taxes in Whiting. My family and I would give the shirt of our backs for any one that needed it. I worked in nursing home for years and I just love the elderly. i had her as a teacher for a long time...and she is a family friends...she taught everyone of my siblings..and we all liked her....

I had Mrs. Mason as a teacher the same year she resigned. She was a nice teacher, and I really didn't see that coming. It was really hectic for us in that class after she resigned. We were all wondering what was going on, and we had two teachers that took her place.

Well nobody saw it coming! and she didn't even do it!!! I had her as a teacher last year too. I'm sick of people running their mouths about something they no nothing about!!!

So if anybody has a problem with Tina Mason, you make sure you no what it is, and if u think she had sex with anyone your wrong. The kid sat in the courtroom laughing.

She was able to be with her kids because she was allowed, not only by the court but by her husband to, because he loves her enough to NO she didn't do it!!!!

Tina Mason is guilty. She plays a good game at trying to be the victim not the criminal. Do you think for one minute if I was not guilty of this CRIME that I would cop a plea just to save myself!!!! She has gotten an easy sentence however, she has to live with, she knows what she did. Unfortunatly she will get out of jail and continue to try to live in East Machias. Good Luck to herl.. Her family is the one that has to pay for the crime she committed. Her dad Head of Security at UMM, her husband , brother, father , and brother in law all working at Bucks Harbor Correctional and County Sheriff Dept. Her children will also pay for her crime. 10 years on the sex registery means, mommy can't come to any of my school functions. Mommy can't come to my graduation. How sad for them.

If Tina Mason wasn't guilty she should have fought till the end to prove her innocents just for the FAMILY. To say she took the plea to protect her chilldren is quite the quote.

My,my, the teenage mind is a spiteful, naive, disrespectful place. Lubec_Chickie: have you ever heard accounts from victims of child molesters? They called their molesters nice, kind, they lured them in with candy, gifts, played games with them, let them use there computers, any number of things to make them feel like they were their "friends." This is called "grooming." Honestly, how many molesters could lure their victims in if they were mean, angry predators? That's no way to get anyone to want to spend time around you. Anyway you look at it, you don't plead guilty to those kind of charges unless you ARE guilty. At least she would be given a shread of respect if she would have stood up and fought like a decent human(IF she was innocent.) They don't convict on those kinds of charges unless they are damn sure that person is guitly. And I don't think her pleading guilty is putting any less burden on her family-if that was her reasoning behind this she should have thought a bit harder about this one-because a guilty verdict is an admission of guilt. If it were my sister, who is a teacher, and she was innocent, I would tell her to fight like hell to save her name, no matter who got hurt in the process.

SteeveeDee, shut your MF mouth, our school is just fine, get over it, she didn't even teach High School. Don't trash us until you see what it's like. She may have done whatever in her personal life but school was different, granted the circumstances she was actually a good teacher who was liked by all.

Lubec_Chickie~ stay in school hun, work at not being so ignorant. Of course i have a job and yes, I have an opinion. Its America, its might right to have one. You know all about that since you study so hard. Tina Mason is a nasty woman who should have been fired years ago for her lack of teaching. Only when she started doing inappropriate things at school like acting like her students, flirting with high school boys, sending carnations to high school boys, talking with students on Myspace, having inappropriate conversations with minors, not teaching math everyday, posting students to watch the halls for the principal so she wouldn't get caught not working, getting on the computer instead of teaching, the list can go on and on. Let me ask you something Lubec_Chickie when you have kids of your own someday wouldn't you want them to have a better teacher than that. Only when a few teachers complained on her behavior did the facts of this above article came out. So don't be mad at me, be mad at Mrs. Mason who failed you as a teacher.
