Maine cities are being given high marks in an annual analysis of crime statistics.

In a report released Monday, CQ Press out of Washington, D.C., announced its ratings of the safest and most-dangerous cities and metropolitan areas nationwide.

Among the 338 metropolitan areas that were ranked, Bangor was listed as the eighth-safest, Portland was the 28th-safest and Lewiston-Auburn came in at No. 60.

Logan, Utah, was named the nation’s safest metropolitan area, while Pine Bluff, Ark., was listed as the most dangerous.

To come up with its list, CQ Press used 2007 statistics from six crime categories.

Yep, Portland and Lewiston are the safest. The safest place for drug dealers to deal and peddle their wares that is.

Wow, Bangor is #8! It makes you wonder how bad it must be elsewhere.

This does not surprise me at all. Not much happens in Maine. That is why when a small robbery takes place the news makes such a big deal out of.

I reported what commonsense wrote and hopefully it will be removed but remember folks. DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS and it is being one so either report it again or ignore it. Don't waste your time trying to argue with it.

Thank you, Kevin_of_Bangor.

I understand it is a distasteful and offensive statement. But, from a strictly empirical point of view, is it an incorrect statement?
