BELFAST, Maine — A local man was jailed early Sunday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, walking off with their baby and biting a police officer who tried to arrest him.

Lee Vernon Williams, 21, of Bay Head Apartments was charged with domestic violence assault, assault on an officer, refusing to submit to arrest, violation of bail conditions, refusing to sign a summons, and criminal mischief. He also was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the Patterson Hill apartment complex at 1:27 a.m. Sunday to assist a woman who claimed she had been assaulted. When they arrived as the scene they encountered Williams walking down the road with his 1-year old son, Calvin.

When police approached Williams he initially refused to stop walking and then sat down on the ground with his feet pointing in the road. Officers managed to grab the child from his grasp and when they attempted to place Williams under arrest he bit State Trooper Don Webber in the finger, according to the police report.

Williams was taken to the Waldo County Jail where bail was set at $500 for the failure to appear warrant and $2,500 for the assaults and other charges.

Belfast officers Rick Smith and Wendall Ward, state police Sgt. David Tripp and Webber and Waldo County Deputy Sheriff James Greeley took part in the arrest.

He bit the cop. Wow that must have hurt the cop. They just wanted to carge him with something else.

are you serious pc..??? Hits his girl..takes off with a baby..fights and bites..obviously has issues..If it was my kid..he wouldnt get anywhere near that kid for a while..and for biting..how do we know he doesnt have medical issues..a human bite is an terrible thing to get..smarten up!!

I HOPE THE PO PO TUNED HIM UP AFTER THIS~! A HUMAN BITE IS SERIOUS... HARD TELLING WHAT DISEASES THIS GUY HAS TO BOOT. SOUNDS LIKE HE IS A REAL TOOL, BEATING A WOMAN AND RUNNING OFF WITH THE BABY! My husband is a cop, was bit by a druggie with track marks.. It is a scary issue!

Sounds like a real ' tough guy' to me. The cop should have shot the teeth out of his head -----that would solve the biting problem..
