Gas in Maine 13 cents higher than national average

By The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Gas prices in Maine continue to fall, but they’re still above the national average.

According to AAA, which tracks prices nationwide, a gallon of regular was averaging $1.79 in Maine on Monday. That’s 13 cents higher than the national average.

Gas prices in Maine are down 50 cents a gallon in the past month, and are $1.33 lower than a year ago.

AAA says Diesel fuel is selling for $2.76 a gallon on average, down from $3.11 a month ago.

Well to me anything under $2.00 a gallon is something to be thankful for. :)

I remember years ago when the Attorney General went after oil dealers for price fixing. So the oil dealers went and formed the Maine Oil Dealers and now they can fix the price of gas leagally. You cannot tell me that transoportation is a problem. The tanks are right down on the waterfront. Yet go inland to some place like Albion and gas is more than 10 cents cheaper.

No surprise - we do live in a relatively remote place.

Everything is more expenisive in ME, thanks to our GOV..........

Im with Lincoln Mom... Under $2/gal is a blessing this winter!

ffs lower gas prices now or someone gets it

listenup ... can't argue with you on that hah

who cares. it is 1.81 compared to 4.50. be happy. gosh. i am thrilled it is back under 2 bucks!

I am a follower of the who cares, it's not $4.50 anymore bunch too, however, our who cares mentality keeps us paying energy costs higher than national averages. It gives the communist governor and his minions the power to continue to reap their profits (and kickbacks) at our expense! I live in the County and that means an automatic $.25/ gal penalty on my fuel oil and gasoline costs! They say its the transportation costs but I say its because on Monday morning the fax goes around to the station managers dictating this weeks pricing! There are only three main suppliers up here Daigle Oil, Dead River, and Irving so why should they compete?! They have a captive audience! It does not cost $.20 -$.25 a gallon more to transport my gas here! This state is not exactly consumer friendly anyhow! There are no consumer protections on the books (nother story in itself) so why should they protect us from the Maine Oil Dealers Association?!

CYNICAL, YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!!

Update--W. Street J.

Obama's new energy nominee wants gas prices taxed to European levels--why? So we will conserve--[he says]

This is what we [you] voted for.

why does this title just seem to make sense?

people need to keep in mind that when irving oil started to do bussness in this country they were taken to court by exxon and mobil for selling their gas to cheap needless to say exxon and mobil won. irving is a privetly owned oil company that is not traded on the stock market. alot people seem to have a problem with a canadian company selling oil here in the states. I say if it's good gas at a fair price what does it matter?

i too say what does it matter what the price is elsewhere? is it just to rub it in and say "hey mainers, you settle for the price you have when it could be this"!!!! isn't that like the father who tells one son, "GREAT JOB" but tells the other son"YOU COULD"VE DONE BETTER, LOOK AT YOUR BROTHER"???? i am satisfied with the price of gas and fuel here in maine as compared to last years prices so leave it alone. if it were to stay at this price forever and the national average was 1.00 a gallon, i still would not care, i don't live "nationally" i live in maine and i am happy!!!!!

Gas in Brewer is at 1.76 right now, its been a steady decline here over the last month or so. I didnt expext to see anything under 2.00 at best so no complaints here.
