Rapid-fire storm systems head Maine's way

By The Associated Press
(Bangor Daily News/Kate Collins)
Alanna Edwards sweeps snow off of her car on Maple St. during mid-morning on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008. Edwards was driving from her Bangor home to Bar Harbor, planning to give herself plenty of extra travel time to compensate for the messy road conditions.

Forecasters say a rapid-fire series of snow storms are on the way after a fast-moving storm crossed the state Wednesday, dropping up to half a foot of snow and testing motorists' winter driving skills.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Bob Marine said an active weather system should result in a series of snow storms that virtually guarantee a white Christmas.

Marine said another storm is expected to arrive Friday afternoon, but it could track south and bring only small snowfall amounts to southern areas and spare central and northern Maine.

A more significant storm — a nor'easter — is forecast to arrive Sunday afternoon and last into Monday.

Marine said the potential is there for yet another nor'easter to arrive on Christmas Eve and last into Christmas day.

I Love the snow~~

Yes about time that the snow started to fall....

I hate snow, It's only December 17 and I am already sick of winter. I love Maine with every fiber of my being but I HATE winter!

How can you love Maine but hate winter? That is a huge oxymoron. While the snow screws up my work schedule at times I love the snow and look forward to it and winter. During the winter months I don't have to listen to loud motorcycles going up and down the road. Don't have to deal with drunken idiots walking up and down the road starting fights with cars for no reason. I don't have to deal with the idiots from out of state who come to vacation and add 30mins or more to my travel time when I must go to Bar Harbor because they don't understand the concept of a speed limit.

There is a lot to love about winter in Maine. The above is just a few. So I welcome winter and I welcome the snow. Only thing that sucks about winter in Maine is that women are not wearing mini skirts and and sundresses. That is the only thing that sucks about winter in Maine.

Let me see, where do I start when describing why I hate winter. 1) I am now responsible for snow blowing the yard for my elderly parents. 2) I have to commute in blinding snow and slippery roads 3) I have to get up earlier every morning to let my car warm up 4) I have to shovel at work.

I prefer summer. I like warm breezes, golden grain fields swaying in the wind, the sound of chickadees fluttering through the leaves, the smell of lilacs, lupines and other wild flowers and my occasional trips to the coast to dip my toes in the chilly Atlantic and lose myself in the sounds of the waves. So, no, I don't think I am stupid for disliking winter. I merely enjoy all the other things Maine has to offer more.

Kevin_of_Bangor-you should have been in front of KFC today!

I never said you where stupid for disliking winter acadiashores. I said that what you stated was an oxymoron.

Sickofgovt I was given the chance to hit KFC today but I didn't have the time. Sadly I wish I would have had it. I would have some great new pics on the digi cam of some butts and boobs.

What do people mean when they say 'let it snow?" Do they mean that we are allowing it to snow? But that doesn't make sense because man has no control over when it snows.

Golbal warming, where are yooooooooooo?

Kevin, my apologies if I implied that you did say I am stupid. You did not. Those were my own words, not yours. Sorry!

I love Maine, and I love winter, but I live in St. Louis and should be arriving in Maine (by driving) on Sunday afternoon.... oh well, I have driven in some pretty bad storms with worse vehicles than I have now...

Eeek, be careful MainerInExile, I hope you arrive safely and that the Nor'easter doesn't give you too much trouble!

Well MainerInExile according to the arcile this is coming...

A more significant storm — a nor'easter — is forecast to arrive Sunday afternoon and last into Monday.

Acadiashores I thank you for making it clear I did not call you stupid. That shows class on your part and I accept your apology. I also know you are not a stupid person. Your comments reflect that.

Thank you Kevin. I enjoy reading your posts. You are very intelligent and your posts reflect that as well!
