CARIBOU, Maine — Two men involved in separate incidents of domestic violence were sentenced this week to jail time for their crimes.

Aaron Finnemore, 38, of Bridgewater pleaded guilty in July to domestic violence assault, a Class C felony. Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gordon said Thursday that the victim in the case suffered bodily injury and the crime was a felony because Finnemore had a prior assault conviction.

Gordon said Finnemore struck his victim on the side of the head, bruising her ear.

Finnemore appeared Wednesday before Aroostook County Superior Court Justice E. Allen Hunter. The state sought a sentence of five years in prison with all but two years suspended and two years of probation with no contact with the victim. The state also sought substance abuse, psychological and domestic violence counseling conditions.

Hunter sentenced Finnemore to five years in prison with all but 18 months suspended and two years of probation with the conditions requested by the state.

Gordon said that Finnemore had a criminal history involving three domestic assaults and felony convictions for burglary and possession of a firearm by a felon.

In an unrelated matter, Randy Brown, 26, of Bridgewater pleaded no contest in July to unlawful sexual contact involving his domestic partner. He also pleaded no contest to a previous Class D domestic violence assault involving the same victim. Brown entered an additional plea of no contest for violating his bail conditions for contacting the victim from jail after he was charged with unlawful sexual contact.

The state sought a sentence of five years in prison with all but two years suspended and three years of probation. The state also sought substance abuse, psychological and domestic violence counseling conditions.

Justice Hunter sentenced Brown to four years in prison with all but 18 months suspended and three years of probation with all requested conditions.

Gordon said that Brown had a past misdemeanor conviction for assaulting the same person.

Once he is released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender.

Gordon said Thursday that he was satisfied with the sentences.

“I had asked for a little more time on both of them, but I do think we are making strides here locally in terms of sentencing for domestic violence,” he said.

aaron finnemore is, was, and always will be a piece of garbage. i used to work with a woman that he was with and she was abused by him on a regular basis. whenever she even thought about leaving him, he would get extremely violent with her. he even went so far as to come to her employment where she was a waitress and threaten her in front of her tables of customers and hit her in the face with her house key. he would stand outside the windows and just stare at her and make threatening movements to her. one night i was working and had to go outside and make him leave. at the end of her shift, she was terrified and would not even go home so i brought her to her brothers house where he eventually found her. this scum even went so far once to choke her 12 year old daughter and throw her down the basement stairs, breaking her leg. aaron is a coward who preys on women and one day, i only hope he gets his!!!!!!!! i can't believe with his history, he only has to serve 18 months. old gordon calls that making a stride??? what a joke!!!!!!

I agree, 18 months isn't that long. I hope she can relocate within this time to a place where he won't find her as it sounds like he won't leave her alone.

Mikelt can't believe this low life will only have to serve 18 monhs. If you have noted the powder puff sentences handed out by justice? Hunter, you would not have to wonder why. I'm surprised he got that much. Maine needs to put people on the bench with some backbone.

I agree that 18months may not be long enough in this case because of the history but 18 months when you think about it is quite a awhile if it was you ?

Habitual offenders need stiffer sentences. This man, if you could call him a man is an abuser and user of all people and thinks he is above the law. A life of drugs and robbing is all he knows. Having a life of enablers and poor parenting sent this puke down the wrong road years ago. He will only abuse again, use drugs again and steal again. This was the perfect case to show the people of aroostook county just how fed up of domestic violence and abuse we are too bad he didn't get the whole 5 years.

Are they waiting for him to killer her before they take this seriously?
