ORONO, Maine — If the Brewer boys track and field team hopes to win its first Eastern Maine Indoor Track League championship since 2004, the Witches will need dynamite performances out of Ben Sinclair.

The junior sprinter had three of those Monday night, winning the 55 meters in 6.80 seconds, the 400 in 51.11 and the 200 in 23.00 as Brewer cruised to a 134.50-106.50 victory over Bangor in a multiteam meet at the University of Maine field house.

In addition to Sinclair’s efforts, the Witches took the first three spots in the long jump to give themselves some breathing room early.

Chase Daniels sparked that effort with a winning leap of 18 feet, 6.25 inches, while Brewer’s Josh Stone and James D’Amico took second and third, respectively.

Sean Seekins had an outstanding meet for Bangor, clearing 13 feet to win the pole vault, leaping 5 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump and recording a mark of 40-2½ in the triple jump.

The Brewer girls held a comfortable lead most of the meet and watched it slip away in the final field events before Sara Chavarie, Katie Snow and Ashley Geiser finished 1-3-5 in the 2-mile as the reigning league champions held off Bangor 148-139.

Bangor picked up 21 points in the high jump, 18 in the shot put and 14 more in the triple jump to slip into a three-point lead heading into the 2-mile, but Bangor had just one entrant in that race and the Witches were able to emerge victorious.

Chavarie, a freshman, was timed in 12 minutes, 44.10 seconds in winning the 2-mile.

Brewer’s other individual winners were Mackenzie DeGraff in the long and triple jumps and Kaitlin Noyes in the pole vault.

The Witches’ 4x880 relay team of Lily Sund, Brooke Madden, Chavarie and Snow won that event in 10:34.69.

Cote Theriault and Brittney Chapman combined for three individual triumphs for Bangor. Chapman captured both the 200 and 400 while Theriault won the shot put.

Mt. Blue of Farmington’s Melody Lam won both her individual events, pulling away from Brewer star Michelle Haluska both times. The Cougars junior took the mile in 5:43.64 while coming back to win the 800 in 2:32.71.
