By The Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Maine — A winner has come forward with a winning lottery jackpot ticket that was sold at a northern Maine store.

The winning Tri-State Megabucks ticket, worth $550,000, was sold at Smith's General Store in the Penobscot County town of Springfield.

Lottery officials say the winner came forward on Friday and now has five days to decide whether to take a lump sum of $275,000 or an annual payout of $22,000 for 25 years. The ticket holder's name has not been released.

What a 'Crock Of S---'.........50% for the government!!!!!

The state has to get there portion. Take the 25 years payment.

The state will get their portion either way, they will have to pay taxes on the 22,000 per year too

no take the lump sum ! you never know when you'll die so you could only live another year and only cash in 22,000 think of your family! i guess im not being optimistic...

Uhhhhhhhhh, since when is Penobscot county Northern Maine? Small detail, but cmon BDN. Learn geography.

AN organization I participated in a few years back frequently has business and motivational speakers that commonly referred to lottery tickets as a stupid tax. Designed for people that are to stupid to realize they pay enough taxes already.

I think there's a few states that don't tax their lottery prizes. Why can't Maine be one of them?

It's money for nothing- pay the damn tax & be happy with what you have. Everyone says no taxes no taxes, but I'd much rather pay tax on money that landed in my lap than money I worked hard for. We have to pay for our roads and schools somehow- read an economics book. As far as Springfield being Northern Maine- anything north of Augusta is Northern Maine, right?

And southern Maine is actually Northern Mass.

take the lump sum!!! enjoy it wisely for you may not live for 25 more years........

How exciting for this person...enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!

if they take the lump sum, the taxes will already be paid right?

Lol UcantFIXstupid, i had family living in Sherman Mills and Springfield...

Thats in penobscot county haha. I live in piscataquis county and I am nowhere near as far north as it goes

i'd take the lump sum and give all the money away to my family and friends that have influenced my life until I had like 30million if I won Powerball. No church or organization will get my money.

I wish they would say who won it,and i would take the lump sum to u never know what tomorrow will bring so enjoy it while you can.congrats. on the lucky winners.

I'd buy a truckload of Rogaine for BALDY'S head

take more then a truck load to cure that...his hair is going down faster then GM stock

matt29 reply: The northernmost portions of Penobscot County are farther north than the southernmost portions of Aroostook County. So a significant portion of Penobscot County's land area is in northern Maine.

matt29 reply: Before Maine became a state in 1820, it was considered to be part of Massachusetts.
