DEER ISLE, Maine — The driver in a fatal accident Sunday on Reach Road in this Hancock County town was operating without a valid license, according to state police investigators.
Anthony Robbins, 33, of Ellsworth was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt owned by Lisa Martin, 47, of Ellsworth when the vehicle crashed at about 3 p.m. Sunday. Martin died in the crash.
According to Trooper Thomas Pickering of the Maine State Police, Robbins’ license to drive had been revoked. A check of drivers’ records at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles also confirmed that Robbins’ license had been revoked in 2004 because he was a habitual offender. The records indicated that his license was eligible for reinstatement after April 2007, but bureau staff on Monday confirmed that his license was still under revocation.
The BMV records showed a long history of motor vehicle violations by Robbins dating back at least 10 years and including multiple suspensions and convictions for, among other charges, aggravated OUI, operating after suspension and operating after habitual offender revocation.
Investigators said speed and alcohol were considered factors in the accident.
Robbins suffered head injuries in the accident and was taken from the accident scene by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he remained in serious condition Monday afternoon.
According to Trooper Pickering, Robbins was headed south on Reach Road when he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the centerline and went off the road. The vehicle struck a utility pole on the passenger side of the car where Martin was riding. She died at the scene.
Pickering was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Alden Bustard and the Deer Isle Fire Department. Trooper Jessica Shorey and Lt. Pat Kane of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reconstructed the accident, which remains under investigation.
Once the investigation is completed, investigators will consult the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office regarding potential charges.

Is it just my poor recollection or does it tend to be the innocent people who end up dying and the "habitual offenders" who seem to live in these type of situations???

I wish Robbins well and a full recovery and my sympathies go out to the families. And at the same time I am glad that more innocent people were not involved in this avoidable crash.

Donald, His injuries were brought on by his irresponsible actions! AND he KILLED an innocent lady in the process. He needs to be accountable for his selfish acts! Obviousley his past punishments for past offenses didnt help straighten him out. Maybe now, a good long prison term for many years will help! After all he WAS ON PROBATION!....He didnt have a drivers license.... He broke probation and will be sent to the slammer! Thank God.

i think all involved in this situation has some blame no he shouldnt have been driving or drinking, and im gonna cause a huge uproar for saying this but he shouldnt have been giving the keys to lisas car she was sober and had the option not to drive with a person who was knownly intoxicated. More importantly i know a certain bar were i live that on any given weekend its full of people drinking and getting drunk. Do they call for a ride or a taxi or walk NO they drive home why cause when it comes down to it we all think this isnt capable of having this happen to us or they think oh i havent had that many.

Mr. Mack, No question the guy is a major LOSER and I am sure that we are all paying for his medical car. The passenger knew what she was getting into with her relationship with him and could have left him anytime, unless he was the abusive type and she didnt dare leave him. He should get life in prison. But I'm sure he'll get off again. What I was refering to is, I am just glad that he didn't hit a minivan with an innocent family inside and have to be brought into the dirtbags world.
