oh my god. is shaun going to jail? hope so. my son thinks the word "no" is abuse. i cannot even fathom this idiot's rationalization for breaking that poor childs legs. what a loser. it's sad that in so many cases like this, the mother swears she had no idea, or that it happened while she was at work. if anyone ever hurt my child i would be in jail for killing them.

What in the world is going on in this state? Every time I log on there is a story about a parent doing something horrific to their child! Something very wrong is going on in Maine and something needs to be done about it.

DRUGS Maybe ! They make people do horrible things. These Mothers that leave their children with the boyfriend need to start being held accountable too. They must know something about the temperment of these men. God help all these poor little babies that are being abused. It seems that we read about one every other day recently.

If this man was not on drugs he must have some serious mental issues. Sadly I cannot twist his legs till I hear them snap because I would end up in jail but if I could confront him without going to jail I would break a lot more than just his legs.

Sadly he has a right to bail and the child is in productive custody so he cannot harm the child again but I would love 10 mins with this asshat. I hope he is hiding inside his house because I’m sure there are a lot of people that want to hurt him badly. I know I would like to.

I just dont understand how someone could get so angry to the point of hitting and breaking bones especially!! These people have way too much rage and anger and to take their fustration out on these kids like this...its really scary! $500 in bail? Is the Judge stupid? Someone should take this abuser and the Judge and twist their legs until they snap and break. Poor little boy - how awful he has such a vicious creep for a Father. Why isn't he working anyhow? And I refuse to believe the Mother didn't know he had the capability of doing this either. There are plenty of warning signs from an abuser. Maybe she too, is abused and afraid and should leave him. It's not so easy for an abused person to leave, so I can understand it, but not excuse it. Any Mother who does not protect her children with her life, is not a Mother. An animal will attack someone trying to hurt their young!

The laws have to change where stiff sentences are the norm when it comes to child abuse, domestic violence of any type, including elder abuse too - a lot of that goes on too. It's a hidden crime. eastmainer is right - the women have to know the temperment of these guys. Why is it so important to have a man around - especially someone who doesn't know the meaning of the world man, father, etc. $500 bucks bail? I could get arrested and fined $300.00 for smoking medicinal marijuana in my own home, in private, hurting no one. But some guy can break a little kid's legs and walk on $500.00 bail.

It's not the drugs - unless they are taking speed or meth, which makes them real nuts. But even then, there is no excuse for hurting a child. No one forces anyone to drink or take drugs anyhow. As much as I believe in personal freedoms - sometimes I think people should be tested before they can have children, participate in a parental training program and if they are not suitable to take are of a puppy dog, they shouldn't be permitted to have children. Put them on that 5-year birth control plan and the same for the guys too - there are ways to make it so they cannot reproduce temporarily. Nothing else that has been tried has done anything to protect the children. Children are a precious gift that deserve a secure and loving home witih people who love and care and cherish them. I don't even think a so-called "traditional" home is necessary either. What's most important is love, caring and affection, and guidance and teaching the child how to be a self-sufficient, giving and caring human being. $500 for bail for a man that breaks the legs of a child. Unreal - who is the stupid Judge anyhow?

there appears to be an underlying current of tolerance by the state of maine judicial system allowing child abusers free reign.I read here all the time how little value is placed upon the lives of our children.how horrific to be born to unstable mentally ill parents in this state..there is no protection anywhere.

Okay, this jerk should be thrown UNDER the jail. A 15 month old baby is defenseless and helpless, this is just sick in so many ways. $500 bail is a joke. That's less than a slap on the wrist. This guy should rot in jail and never be allowed near any child. $500 bail is an insult to this poor child and his life.

OK I just called the AG office they didnt want to hear a thing from me and directed me to the Judicial complaint office.

I am so pissed off hearing these stories. It happens all the time this child is lucky to be alive. It is judges and polititions like this that are going to push the American people to the extreme and trouble is going to come. I find it scary that people feel the need to take things into there own hands. I am one of them. It scares me what I might do if somone did something to my son. It is the victims and families that suffer from trash like what fills the court system and the violators that comit crimes. This judge should be disbarred. They are as guilty as the men/women that comit these crimes themselves. I AM SICKENED NO KIDDING MY STOMACHE HAS BEEN IN A TYWIST SINCE HEARING THIS STORY.

This monster won't get squat in jail. He will be in protective custody with the rest of the animals who abuse children. The taxpayers will pay thousands of extra dollars per year more than on regular criminals to protect him. He will be out in a couple of years looking for another girlfriend to impregnate. Years back a woman duct taped her child and force fed the child sugar untill it died.

Years back a couple put there child in the oven because it was "possest by the devil"

Somone else left a child unattended at a dock or float and the child fell in the ocean and drowned.

Another man in Portland grabbed hid child by the legs and slammed it to the ground I believe killing the child.

These are just things that come to my mind.

I am pretty simple not normally emotional. Since I have become a father this is really hitting me down deep and I want someone to do somthing.

yeah, it seems like every day you hear of another child being abused or murdered what is wrong with these people? these babies and children are so innocent, cannot defend themselves, just imagine the pain he indured, will probably never even be able walk normaly even with therapy, and this man is out on bail, while the baby in hospital, lock him up and the judge, then throw away the key. what is wrong with this system?

Why aren't these men working so the moms can stay home with their kids? Is it because they are on TANF and ASPIRE and are required to go work and can't find good childcare? Is it because these boyfriend losers can't get their own jobs? No matter what the answers, there is something definitely wrong here.
