Up to 20 inches of snow reported in Maine

Jami Harris of Bangor, like most Eastern Mainers, found their cars and driveways buried in about a foot-and-a-half of fresh snow from Sunday and this morning's snowstorm. She was busy Monday mid-morning sweeping off the snow and breaking her family's cars out of the snowbound parking lot off Bolling Drive so a plow could clear it all away.

GRAY, Maine — Mainers were digging out Monday from a daylong storm that dumped more than a foot and a half of snow in some areas of the state.

The National Weather Service said Robbinston in far eastern Maine got the deepest amount, with 20.3 inches, while Orono received 19.8 inches.

Nineteen inches were reported in Columbia, while 18 inches fell in Calais, Gorham and Ellsworth.

Portland got 16 inches from the storm, while setting a record for snowfall on Jan. 18 with 11.5 inches for the date, breaking the previous mark of 11.2 inches in 1979.

Seems nice to have some snow and actually be able to go out and play without fear of frostbite :)

God has sent us this white plague to keep us disabled people inside (and mad) Please god take away this white plague and let us poor people who can;t get around well get out again............................

more like a disease

If you don't like the snow then you might need to move out of the State.

//////////////////// BREAKING NEWS----- IT~S WINTER IN MAINE AND IT SNOWS IN THE WINTER---------\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

snow in maine in January

what a new concept, who would have thought

I am in Calais( well a little south), and I got more than 18 inches in MY yard!

We need the snow in the Winter. It insulates the dens where hibernating animals sleep away the Winter. Keeps OUR homes warmer too, if you bank it up around your foundation. It protects the plant roots from freezing to hard and In the Spring it will make the maple sap run as it melts and it will fertilize your garden plot. If it would only stay off the roads ! LOL

Have we really seen snow until we look at the comic page and see that BDN has chosen the eve of inaugruation for introducing " Pearsl before Swine"?

MAsteveINE

Gee greatspirit what you wrote at 4:44 pm doesn't seem like you are in tune with your chosen name GREAT SPIRIT??? Cheer up oh Great one :) Spring is on the way. My mother always told me never to rush time, enjoy each day.

I love the snow...Wish we could have much more....5, 6, 7 feet....like in the old days.

you are right lincoln mom. i am just having a bad day............ler it snow.....................................................................

Al Gore, call your office.

In Meddybemps we received at least 20" of snow, which was real fun to "play" in,it took me 3 hours to plow my road and yard, bring it on.What dont kill ya makes ya more strong!

This comment has nothing to do with the real "snow" we have recently received. It has to do with the "snow" job the BDN is doing on it's readership. I went to the poll section of the website this morning and the poll question asks if you are going to watch the presidential inauguration this evening. The only option on the poll is "yes", so tomorrow the BDN will report that 100% of its readers watched. BIASED! Geez . . . There was no other forum for me to address this, so a comment on this story was as good as any. Hmm-mm-mm, where could one voice one's opinion on this -- I could not find an avenue. . .

Yeah snow is great to have for snowmobiling and playing in it...but..when you work in car sales and have to brush 10 inches off the roofs of vehicles and hoods, etc. then move about 200 cars to plow and put them back in line...its NO FUN..haha...thank godness its over..for now..

By the way Viper13...dont know what you mean about the poll, cause when I went to go take it, it gave me a choice of yes or no. Maybe your computer was screwing up or something?

Amanda1982---You have a job. Be Thankful !!

Amanda1982 -- Just logged back on to BDN website and checked out the poll. Now there are two choices. I can't imagine some error on my computer only giving me one choice. I think someone must have let them know about the error, or they got a lot of flak. Anyhow, the choice is there again . . .

Snow makes money, bring it.

viper, I reported and probably others did too.

WOW....... Mainers !!!! They sure are something bubba......LMAO Beam me up scotty !

Louise -- Good on you!
