Vassalboro teen hurt in car rollover on I-95

NEWPORT, Maine — A Vassalboro teenager lost control of her car on Interstate 95 on Monday morning, and rolled it over in the median.

Meghan Kothman, 17, was driving south at mile marker 158, just north of the Newport business district exit, when she lost control while passing several vehicles, Maine state Trooper Douglas Franklin said.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m., and Franklin said Kothman was driving too fast for road conditions.

Franklin said Kothman was trapped in her demolished car for several minutes. A wrecker operator from K&K Towing in Palmyra was able to extricate her. A nurse was in one of the cars that Kothman had passed and was able to render first aid until rescue workers arrived.

Kothman, who suffered head injuries, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by Sebasticook Valley Ambulance, according to the trooper.

Franklin said he was assisted at the scene by Newport Rescue and Fire, and Trooper Jon Brown.

Seems to me she already had a head problem before the accident.

Drivers education didn`t prepare her for this.

Teens think they are invincible and nothing can happen.

maybe a device can be inplanted in their heavy foot to slow them down.

*sigh* no alcohol may have been involved

"WOW" I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO COMMENT IN HERE HAVEN'T STARTED ACCUSING HER OF TEXTING OR TALKING ON HER PHONE!

that's because everyone already know's she was doing both and puting on make-up

Now there's old news....who doesn't drive too fast for road conditions?

Snowing out, let's go pass several cars!

Oops I rolled the car over....wonder why?

I am sure the insurance company will remind her that next time it is snowing out or the roads are not 100% cleared up...drive a little slower.

if she can afford to drive after the surcharge

Poor Judgement. Lucky for her she didn't wreck anyone else and there was a Nurse on scene. This could have gone a lot worse.

Good for the nurse to stop and help. Haven't you ever thought when someone passes you at incredible speeds, "If you go off the road, I'm not going to stop".

Everyone makes bad judgement calls at one time or another. We're all humans and we all make mistakes. So maybe everyone should get off their almighty high horses and give the girl a break.

Shanniw: Thats the problem, to many times we forgive and "GIVE THEM A BREAK" As far as I am concerned, she got just what she was looking for.

I'm pretty sure that getting in a car accident is not what she was looking for. Where the hell is your compassion?

Sunday was the first time in my life that I ever decided that it was best just to got off the road. People were driving like idiots on 95 in the Bangor area. Witnessed two accidents and both were attempting to pass in the unplowed left lane. Had to laugh when they went into uncontrolled spins and bounced off the guard rails. Good thing they did not kill anyone. Bet they really regret it when they get their insurance renewed.

If I had a 17 year old they would not be out driving in that weather.

There is also common sense. You observe people driving at a slower speed, but nobody thinks to figure out why they are driving so slow, instead they are impatient and drive faster, and may end up being in an accident. Then we get people who state they should be forgiven, people should feel sorry for them, feel sympathetic, etc. For what? Their stupidity? The word accident is overrated. If the media would write the news as it is seen, articles would be written differently. "Woman rolls over car after texting her BFF Jill" or "Man hit pedestrian in a crosswalk after surfing the web on his Smartphone"

Accident, as of recent is not used the way it should be, what caused you to hit a bus, hit the pedestrian, the house, roll your car? Simple, not thinking, not setting your priorities when you get behind the wheel and turn the key in the ignition. What does it take, to realize when it was just snowing, cold temperatures, wet roads which creates ice, to make one think as they are driving "Gee I am going to pass all these slow cars" they don't think why those cars are going slow, instead they have their own agenda, being ignorant and having no regard for others on the road.

shanniw217 bet you would not think that way if she landed on you instead of her roof,DAH
