LEVANT, Maine — State police are investigating a robbery at the Corner Country Store on Route 222 and are confident they soon will solve it, thanks to some high-quality surveillance footage.

According to Trooper Chris Hashey, the robbery occurred about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, when an unidentified male entered the store and fixed himself a cup of coffee. As the clerk was putting the suspect’s payment for the coffee into the cash register, the suspect leaned across the counter and snatched up an undisclosed amount of cash, Hashey said.

The suspect then left the store and got into an awaiting car believed to be a black Pontiac Bonneville, Hashey said. It was not clear whether the driver was male or female, he said. After leaving the store, the vehicle turned onto Avenue Road, where it last was seen headed toward Exeter.

The suspect is described as being about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 220 pounds. He had dark hair and was wearing a gray knit hat, a gray winter jacket with black sleeves and bluejeans, Hashey said.

Hashey said the state police plan to distribute video footage showing the suspect to the local news media shortly. He asked anyone with information about the case to call the state police Orono barracks at 866-2121.

Can't wait for the video but being this store is in a remote location with more than a few ways to run I can understand why they picked the location. The chances of the Sheriff or State having a chance of catching you quickly is very slim.

The idiot(s) will get caught though but I doubt they will get any serious time.

Security cameras are getting pretty cheap. Every business should have a couple. It looks like this one will pay off.

Caught on Tape...criminals are so dumb! haha :)

He poured himself a cup of coffee... fingerprints on the coffee pot plus the surveillance footage will help IF they printed the pot...

This is Maine. We both know they didn't bother with printing the pot. Then they would have to question people.

Exactly, the police wouldn't want to go over budget! Printing the pot should be the first order of business. Hope they catch him no one deserves to be robbed.

Maybe he was just helping the clerk make change.
