Police investigating Hartland home invasion

HARTLAND, Maine - Somerset County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating an armed home invasion and robbery that was reported shortly after midnight on Route 23 in Hartland.

According to Det. Sgt. Carl Gottardi III, two men forcibly entered a residence and stole several articles. The men used clothing to conceal their faces and were armed. Although Gottardi would not release details of what weapons were used, one victim in the home, an adult male, received a laceration during an altercation with the robbers and was later taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment.

There were three people in the home at the time of the robbery, Gottardi said, and the victims were threatened to turn over specific items that the robbers were seeking. He would not confirm that the victims were familiar with the robbers.

Gottardi said three detectives and five deputies responded to the robbery and a sheriff's office K-9 attempted to track the perpetrators. "Evidence was discovered,'' Gottardi said, declining to go into further detail.

Gottardi said he expects much more information to be available later today on this case as well as possible arrests.

What is the deal with these crazies breaking into a person's home at night....there has been and always will be the threat of the spineless thief knocking on your door during the daytime and then if no answer trying to get in but these night time entries with family sleeping is scarey....time to start sleeping with the S & W under the pillow once again....just make sure to remind the misses to let you know when she is getting up for those late night visits to the bathroom......

I was stolen from in a seperate but I believe related incident. I did not report it, but spent the next night

sleeping on the couch with an aluminum baseball bat, hoping they came back.

These crimes are escalating, and not enough attention is being paid to them due to the small town

in question. This is perhaps the culmination of the largest crime spree our town has seen since the shooting

in the town square decades ago.

I question why everyone in town either knows someone who has been stolen from, or has been personally stolen from,

and I have never heard a peep from the news agencies before someone got stabbed.

The items being stolen have gone from small items left unsecured in yards, to ATV's, to COWS (yes, that is not a typo), now to

armed robbery. At some point, the Sheriffs department will decide that it is worth their time to prosecute.

Until that time, I have baseball bats stored at thresholds throughout my home, and trust me, I know how to use them.

What is meant by "due to the small town in question?"
