OAKFIELD, Maine — State police were kept busy early Valentine’s Day morning with two separate incidents originating at a community fundraising event.

Troopers were dispatched at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to the Oakfield Community Center where a benefit supper was being held, after receiving a complaint that an intoxicated man was starting fights and refusing to leave the center.

Upon arrival, Trooper Jedediah Malcore was confronted by Thomas Frazier, 21, who refused Malcore’s instructions to leave the premises.

According to information provided by Maine State Police Sgt. Thomas Pelletier, Frazier became combative toward Malcore, and after a brief altercation Frazier was arrested and charged with assault, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Trooper Tim Saucier assisted Malcore in that investigation.

A half-hour later, state police arrested Nathan Swallow, 24, of Oakfield for allegedly terrorizing with a firearm, a Class C offense.

According to Pelletier, Swallow and his girlfriend, Erin Fortier, had been at the community center attending the benefit supper and had gotten into an argument.

Pelletier said Swallow left the function and went to Fortier’s residence on 30 River Road, and the couple apparently continued their argument through text messaging.

Fortier later was driven to her home by Kathy Kennedy of Merrill, where Swallow was waiting and allegedly pointed a shotgun first at the two women in the car and then continued to point the firearm at Fortier as she left the vehicle.

Kennedy reported the incident to the state police and when Troopers Saucier and Malcore arrived at the scene, Pelletier said, they found Fortier asleep in the home and arrested Swallow at the residence. The troopers also seized a loaded firearm at the residence.

Swallow was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, where he remained Monday afternoon.

He is scheduled to appear in Houlton Superior Court on March 19.
