The newsroom is home base for our photographers and reporters who cover Bangor and surrounding communities, including sports, and specialty reporters who cover business, medicine and health, and the environment. It also is where their assignment editors work, along with two other assignment editors who are responsible for the reporters in our seven bureaus. News that is generated by this staff during the day and evening is edited and placed in pages designed by copy editors who put the paper together at night so it can be sent to the press on deadlines based on the time you have your paper available to you either through home delivery or at your local store.

The opinion section has several elements and is operated separately from the news-gathering part of the newsroom. It contains fact-based opinions while the rest of the newsroom's goal is to present facts from multiple sides without bias. Editorials are this newspaper's opinions on the news of the day as written by editorial page editor Susan Young and assistant editor Tom Groening. Letters to the editor are readers' reactions to the news of the day.
Columnists are regularly appearing writers who pen their opinions on state, national and world events. Commentaries are readers' in depth viewpoints on current events. Our political cartoonist George Danby draws and writes the daily political cartoons on local, state, national and world issues. And Other Voices is a daily roundup of editorial excerpts from other newspapers around the world. Please meet our staff, see how easy it is to submit a letter to the editor, and view recent columns and commentaries.

Our office in the Bangor Daily News newsroom is a busy place on Mondays and Tuesdays, when we lay out and finalize Greater Bangor's Weekly Community News Source. The rest of the week, we continue to gather the community news, school items, columns and other features that go into each issue of 58,000 copies -- the third-largest newspaper in the state. The Weekly is actually printed on Wednesday mornings, and nearly 30,000 copies are inserted in Thursday's Bangor Daily News in Greater Bangor, while the rest are mailed out. From Alton and Bradford to Corinth and Etna to Bucksport and Castine, our coverage area looks a bit like an overgrown tadpole.
To put it simply, the 37 towns that receive The Weekly are: Alton, Argyle, Bangor, Bradford, Bradley, Brewer, Bucksport, Carmel, Castine, Clifton, Corinth, Costigan, Dedham, Dixmont, Eddington, Etna, Frankfort, Glenburn, Greenfield, Hampden, Hermon, Holden, Hudson, Kenduskeag, Levant, Milford, Newburgh, Olamon, Old Town, Orland, Orono, Orrington, Penobscot, Stetson, Veazie, Verona, Winterport.
