ISLESBORO, Maine - The sixth Maine Old Home Day will include a seafood festival when it takes place Saturday, Aug. 16.
This year’ s event will feature a seafood lunch with lobster rolls, clams and fish chowder, along with the more traditional fare of hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken wraps, plus an array of snacks and treats.
Old Home Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature the island’ s first ever lawnmower race.
The event is sponsored by the Islesboro Sporting Club, a nonprofit organization with more than 160 members and a motto of “Conserve-Protect-Enjoy.” Other community organizations participating in the event are the Fire Department, Ambulance Service, Beacon Project, Lighthouse Museum, Pripet Riding Program, Doolittle Farm, Pre-School, Islesboro Island Trust and Tarratine Tots.
One attraction is a large slot car track where cars can be rented and raced. Also featured will be golf, hoop, dart and ring-toss games, a dunk tank, a bouncy horse and a petting zoo. There will be sack, three-legged, and egg-spoon races and a watermelon-eating contest.
Old Home Day’ s seafood festival will be held at the clubhouse on Meadow Pond Road in North Islesboro. Admission is $5 or $3 for juniors.
