Boyden Lake event includes talk, meal
PERRY, Maine - The Boyden Lake Association will celebrate its 20th year of supporting Boyden Lake at its annual meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Perry Grange on South Meadow Road.
There will be a spaghetti supper for $7 per adult and $3.50 for children, followed by a business meeting.
As part of the celebration, there will be a presentation on red (fire) ants from 6:30 to 8 p.m. by Tamara Levitsky from the School of Biology and Ecology of the University of Maine. Levitsky has worked on the ecology and management of this aggressive and problematic ant for the past five years.
The public is invited and donations are welcome.

Water canaries topic of meeting in Perry
PERRY, Maine - A discussion on water canaries with Stephanie Allard will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Pottle Tree Farm on South Meadow Road. Belfast theater to show movie shot in the city
BELFAST, Maine - Early Exposure Productions is releasing a new film shot on location in Belfast and showing at the Colonial Theatre. It’ s titled “Time for Belfast — No Dreaming Out Loud.”
The plot revolves around schoolchildren as they give their reports on the last day of school. A small, coastal town comes to life through their eyes in a surprising way. This is a high definition motion picture designed for all ages. Running time is approximately an hour.

Public supper slated Aug. 2 at Belfast church
BELFAST, Maine - A public supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Belfast United Methodist Church, 23 Mill Lane. The menu will include baked beans, casseroles, salads, rolls, beverages and dessert. Adults, $7 children ages 5-12, $3.50 children under 5, free.
Palestinian, Israeli conflict focus of film
BANGOR, Maine - The film “Promises” will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the Penobscot Theater on Main Street.
“Promises” is a documentary film that explores the Palestinian and Israeli conflict through the eyes of seven children in Jerusalem with radically different perspectives.
There will be refreshments and a discussion after the film.
The film is sponsored by the Eastern Maine chapter of the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace with support from River City Cinema.
