ORONO, Maine – An all-points bulletin for police officers to be on the lookout for a late-model gray Mustang led local officers to take notice when one sped past them on Forest Avenue, Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said on Monday.

“We had information from DEA that this vehicle was possibly transporting narcotics,” he said, referring to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The Houlton branch issued the bulletin.

The Mustang, driven by Brigitte Dupont, 39, of Houlton, was stopped for speeding and then searched.

“During our investigation and search, they did find some heroin and cocaine,” Ewing said.

Passengers Oliver Comwell and Carol Comwell, both 33 and also of Houlton, were arrested for possession of heroin and possession of cocaine at the scene.

They were taken to Penobscot County Jail. Dupont was charged with operating after suspension.

While the car was searched, a woman and a young boy could be seen sitting on the roof of the car. The five-year-old boy was held for Department of Human Services personnel, Ewing said.

“A narcotics canine indicated there are drugs in the panels of the car,” the police captain said, adding the department filed for a search warrant before proceeding with “taking the car apart in more detail.”
