PENOBSCOT – George A. Gray, 60, died Aug. 20, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 26, 1948, in Castine, the son of Philip Boyd and Betty Sue (Young) Gray. George worked in his earlier years at the Callahan Mines, Blue Hill; Maine Maritime Academy, Castine; and Penobscot Poultry, Belfast. The last 10 years of George’s work life were spent working for the City of Ellsworth, where the people and the friendships he made were an important part of his life’s journey. He is survived by his father; wife and life-journey companion of 25 years, Amy (Moody); children, Kyle and Brittany Gray, all of Penobscot, Wendy Gray of Bucksport, Harold Gray and wife, Laurie, of Penobscot, and Dale Gray of Ellsworth; brothers, Steve Gray and wife, Julie, of Nottingham, N.H., and Byron Gray and Wendy of Penobscot; sisters, Phyllis Stimpson and husband, Loyal, of Franklin, Jean Butler and husband, Harold, of Penobscot, and Joyce Cyr and husband, Tim, of Bucksport; grandchildren, Brenda, Brandon, Hannah, Courtney, Natalie, Mercedes and Isabel; his in-laws, Herb and Barbara Moody of Penobscot; many nieces and nephews, other family members, and special friends. He was predeceased by his mother. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
