ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine is projecting an enrollment of more than 12,000 students this fall, which would be the largest enrollment in the university’s history.
Some 700 student, faculty and staff volunteers were on hand Friday morning to greet first-year students and their families as they arrived on the Orono campus.
There are an estimated 2,173 first-year students, an increase of 201 over last year’s freshman class and the largest-ever first-year class.
University officials say students from 47 states and 47 countries are enrolled at the school this fall.
