BANGOR – Dora Economy Hassis, 90, wife of the late John S. Hassis, died April 7, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare center. She was born Oct 14, 1915, in Bangor, a daughter of James A. and Madeline (Christie) Economy. Dora graduated from Bangor High School. Her family owned Bangor Fruit Company where she worked growing up. She was the owner of the Bar Harbor Restaurant for many years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Zonta Club and a volunteer with EMMC Auxiliary, working in the hospital gift shop. She is survived by a son, Simon J. Hassis of Bangor; a daughter, Nancy H. Mayo of Ellsworth; a grandson, Seth Mayo; one sister, Ellen Prifti and husband, Basil, of Tucker, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Loretta Economy of Brewer, Terry Kretz of Pennsylvania, and Eva Pillary of Florida; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Spiro Cosmos and Pauline Spiro; an infant brother, Apostle; and two older brothers, Richard and George Economy. Dora’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Westgate Manor for their care and compassion for Dora during her illness. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, with the Rev. Rex H. Garrett Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the service at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
