MILLINOCKET and BROOKTON – Eleanor L. Wheaton, 94, wife of the late Douglas P. Wheaton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Ross Manor, Bangor. She was born April 9, 1912, in Brookton, the daughter of Hawley W. and Ientha E. Thornton. Eleanor was a lifelong member of the Brookton Baptist Church and was very active in the work of the church. She worked many years at the Baskahegan Sporting Camps in Brookton for “Biscuit and Gertie” Bartlett, as well as the nursing home in Danforth with Martha Ripley. She worked at Living Waters Bible Camp at East Grand Lake and for 12 years boarded local schoolteachers in Brookton. Eleanor was also active in the Danforth Garden Club. After moving to Millinocket in 1986, Eleanor continued her devotion and faith through the First Congregational Church, Millinocket and was a member of Onawa Chapter No. 130, OES in Millinocket. She enjoyed getting out for the annual Thornton family reunion and local community events. She always looked forward to visiting with many dear friends. In addition to her parents and five siblings, Eleanor was also predeceased by a special daughter-in-law, Shirley A. Wheaton. She is survived by her son, Perley E. Wheaton of Millinocket; two grandchildren, Cheryl A. Collinsworth and her husband, Michael, of Millinocket and Michael P. Wheaton and his wife, Sharon, of Hampden; five great-grandchildren, Amy and Aaron Collinsworth, David Wheaton, all of Millinocket, Tyler and Michaela Wheaton of Hampden; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Davis of West Enfield, Mertie Walker of Bangor, Marilyn Wheaton Fitzpatrick of Norridgewock and Florida; a very dear and special friend, Marguerite Kimball of Millinocket; and many Thornton and Bubar family members from Lincoln and Millinocket. Eleanor spent many years caring for her family members. She will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Bouchard – Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be held after the service at the Millinocket Cemetery.
