DEXTER – Elsie L. “Penny” Cross, 77, wife of Hugo H. Cross, died Aug. 22, 2006, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was born March 22, 1929, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Samuel and Evelyn (Sargent) Glenn. She attended Philadelphia Memorial High School and then secretarial school, also in Philadelphia. She was employed as a secretary in a stock brokerage office and later as an executive secretary for an insurance company, both in Connecticut. Penny was an avid reader, and belonged to the American Book Club. She had volunteered at the Waldoboro Library and also enjoyed traveling around New England. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Hugo of Dexter; a son, Mark London of Pennsylvania; three sisters, including Lynn Kauftheil of Pennsylvania; three brothers; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Judy Cross and a special nephew, Jeff Cross, both of Dover-Foxcroft; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson and two granddaughters. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor Ray Beless officiating. After the service, friends are invited to the Joyce Cross home, 876 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, for a time of fellowship and sharing.
