FORT FAIRFIELD – Ethel Hayes, 100, wife of the late Michael Warren Hayes, died Monday morning, Feb. 27, 2006, at a Caribou nursing facility, after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 3, 1905, at Arthurette, N.B., Canada, the daughter of Banford and Ivy (Whitmore) Sprague. Ethel attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Michael Warren Hayes Oct. 14, 1927. She attended the Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Fairfield and was a life member of the Fort Fairfield Starlight Rebekah Lodge. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hayes was predeceased by one son, Raymond Hayes; five brothers, Roy, Elmer, Earlon, Lawrence and Cecil Sprague; three sisters, Gertrude Doughty, Madeline Everette and Olive Libby; one granddaughter, Kimberly M. Millard; and two grandsons, Irvin and Clayton Hayes Jr. She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Lena Hayes of Stanley, N.B., Clayton and Nancy Hayes of Caribou, David and Carla Hayes, Donald and Linda Hayes, Michael and Ann Hayes, all of Fort Fairfield; three daughters, Gladys Keegan and her husband, Percy, of Fort Fairfield, Myrtle Johnson of Mesquite, Texas, Shirley Hubeli of Houston, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Ruth Sprague of Burlington, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2-3 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Babin, officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the funeral service for continued fellowship and refreshment.
