SEDGWICK – George Elwin Dyer, 62, went to be with the Lord and his faithful friend, “Ace”, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Blue Hill Hospital. He was born Aug. 7, 1942, in Castine, the son of David Elwin and Evelyn Gertrude (Candage) Dyer of Harborside. George loved to work in his shop crafting handmade furniture for family and friends. Every Christmas family members would receive a hand crafted present. He loved the ocean where he could be found every summer on his beloved lobster boat, the “Carol Marie” along with his ever present first mate, “Ace-man”. He was considered by most a “fine” carpenter, learning his trade from his father and brothers primarily. He applied his skills as a carpenter and boats man in many ways. George worked as a caretaker for more than 40 years and helped to “finish off” several new fishing vessels and worked as a crewman on some of those vessels. He also worked as the paint shop foreman at Billings Diesel and Marine in Stonington. He especially loved his sons stopping by with a “mess a clams”, a package of deer meat or a good charge of dandelion greens and to talk shop. He also liked to talk about the weather and kept a detailed log book for 30 plus years. George is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children, Joan Torrey and husband, Timmy, of Hancock, David Dyer of Sedgwick, Craig Dyer and wife, Andrea, of Brooklin, Wayne Dyer and wife, Irene, of Sedgwick, Lisa Ciomei and husband, Steven, of Blue Hill; three stepchildren, Sgt. Richard Wheaton and wife, Dawn, of Fort Lewis, Wash., Katie and Meridith Wheaton of Stonington; 13 grandchildren; brothers, D. Frederick Dyer and wife, Ursula, of Brooksville, Victor Dyer and wife, Lorraine, of Brooksville, Elmer Dyer and wife, Magda, of Pine Bush, N.Y.; sisters, Dorothy Bakeman of Harborside, Nellie Moores of Dowling Park, Fla. and Alice Dyer of Greenwich, R.I. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 11, 2004, at the North Sedgwick Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Smart officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in George’s memory may be made to Hancock County Home Care and Hospice, P O Box 156, Blue Hill, ME 04614. Arrangements by Acadia Burial & Cremation Direct, PO Box 99, Mt.
