DEXTER – John A. Briggs, 80, died Jan. 23, 2005, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Ripley, son of Maurice and Bertha (Wiggin) Briggs. He attended Dexter schools, however, John left high school to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to finish school and attend the University of Maine. He was a member of the VFW in Dexter. After college he started farming with his father, the late Maurice Briggs. John met Dorothy Lincoln and they were married March 30, 1952. He was an avid snowmobiler and loved hunting with his many friends. John loved life and enjoyed everything he did to the fullest. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 53 years; three children, Daniel A. Briggs, Timothy A. Briggs and Nancy D. Briggs Redman; two grandchildren, Forest Briggs and Molly Redman; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Jillian Briggs; and a sister, who he was very close to, Muriel Haley, all of Dexter. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer; and a brother, Robert Briggs. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter, with Pastor Lois Field officiating. Spring burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
