VEAZIE – Kenneth Wesley Lowell, 96, died April 10, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born July 25, 1909, in Brimfield, Mass., the son of Ellis and Lucy (Esterbrook) Lowell. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 33 years old and spent his years in the service aboard the ship Denebala as an engineer in the boiler room. The Denebala saw service in both World War I and World War II. After his discharge Ken returned to Maine and opened Lowell’s Garage in Bangor for many years. Ken serviced and maintained many friends, neighbor’s and law enforcement vehicles. He will always be remembered as the most honest and reliable mechanic you could ever find. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Brewer Eagles Club and the Veazie Senior Citizens. Ken was predeceased by three wives, Elsie “Pink” (Hamlin) and infant son; Violet “Vie” (Brown) and Rena (French) Lowell who died Feb. 25, 2006. Ken and Rena had 17 happy years together attending family reunions and many neighborhood gatherings with Ted and Mae Purvis and Lou and Carol Thompson celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. For several years Ken and Rena spent winters in Seminole, Fla. They enjoyed their Saturday afternoons at Seminole Mall dancing and listening to old time bands. They enjoyed the yearly “Maine Day” gathering in Zephyrhills, Fla. In his younger years Ken was an avid lover of his Harley motorcycles and toured Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and other parts of New England. His summers were spent at his cottage at Sandy Beach, at Pushaw Lake. Ken is survived by two stepdaughters, Marian French of Brewer, Elsie Rich of Natich, Mass.; nieces, Becky Carr and husband, Larry, Jackie Bouchey, Nancy Ryan, and several other nieces and nephews out of state. The Rev. Patricia Moore will officiate at a funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor where friends may visit from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
