BANGOR – Marguerite Ann Thomas, 98, finished this life’s journey Jan. 12, 2006, at Ross Home, Bangor, with her son, Richard at her side. She was born Aug. 7, 1907, in Egmont Bay, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of Alexander and Madeline (Gallant) Barreault. Marguerite grew up on the island and came to Maine as a young adult. She worked at varied positions in the Old Town and Bangor area and married Clarence L. Modery. Later with her second husband, D. Edward “Eddie” Thomas, she made her home in Bangor for more than 30 years. Although they both enjoyed fishing and ice fishing at their cottage on Pushaw Lake in Glenburn, Dad said he was always the first one who was ready to quit and go home, not Mom. Their family spent summers at the cottage and after Eddie’s retirement this became their home, but Marguerite continued to work until she was 72 and tended a garden well into her 90’s. She was predeceased by all of her nine brothers and sisters, two children, Marie Irene Modery and Edward Modery; great-grandchild, Stephen Thoms; and her husband, Eddie; as well as her ex-husband, Clarence; and her life long friend, Lorraine Kent. Her cheerful attitude toward life and her motherly care and concern will be missed by all who survive her, which includes sons, John Modery and wife, Lucy, of Hermon, Richard Modery and wife, Barbara, of Bangor, Clarence Modery and wife, Pat, of Hermon, Malvin Thomas Sr. and wife, Linda ,of Hudson; a daughter, Linda Thomas Hayes and husband, George, of Andrews, Texas; and also the children of Eddie’s first marriage, Dorna Thomas of Veazie and Elwin Thomas of Altemone Springs, Fla. Ever her delight were her 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, most notably, Casey Modery. Spring graveside funeral services at Mount Hope Cemetery will be announced by Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful staff at Ross Home and mother’s attendants from New Hope Hospice.
