HALL QUARRY, MOUNT DESERT – Mary E. Merchant, 84, died May 29, 2004 at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1920, the daughter of Ira M. and June (Davis) Robinson. Mary was a loving, caring, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived in Hall Quarry, Mount Desert, for many years. Mary enjoyed the activities at Rodick Lorraine, where she was one of the first tenants and volunteered for Meals for Me. She is survived by four sons, George Merchant and wife, Jan, and Robert “Bo” Merchant and wife, Nancy, all of Hall Quarry, Albert Merchant and wife, Cookie, of Bar Harbor, and Anthony Merchant, and wife, Viola, of Frederick, Va.; three daughters, Evelyn Davis and husband, Fred, of Town Hill, Nancy Davis of Waltham, and Lydia Farley and husband, Reginald, of Trenton; one sister, Pearl Proctor of Rockland; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Harry M. Merchant; one daughter, Melissa Merchant; three brothers, George, Robert and Sonny (Ira) Robinson and one son-in-law, Charles Davis. Graveside memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at Wasgatt Cemetery, Beech Hill, Mount Desert, with the Rev. Wayne Buchanan officiating.
