MILLINOCKET – Mildred L. (Craig) Garland, 96, passed away peacefully Aug. 6, 2005, at the Katahdin Nursing Home. She was born July 4, 1909, in Bristol, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of David and Florence (Pryor) Fulton. She attended school and lived in Bristol, New Brunswick, until her marriage to C. Shirley Craig. Mildred was married to C. Shirley Craig for 50 years and they had four children. He passed away in 1976. Later, Mildred was married to Leslie Garland and he passed away in 1984. Mildred was a member of the Millinocket Baptist Church. She was also a life member and Past Worthy Matron of Onawa Chapter No. 130, O.E.S. Mildred “Meme” was sergeant of the Millinocket Crossing Guards for many years and, while so doing, made sure children who needed mittens got them. In fact, she had a helping hand and a loving heart for anyone who needed it. She loved walks in the woods and enjoyed picking flowers for drying and painting for bouquets. She enjoyed doing all crafts, especially crocheting, always having a hook in her hand, as someone might need an afghan or doily. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Before losing her sight, she looked forward to her trips back to Canada, and writing letters to her friends was a must. Through the years, she enjoyed her many winters in California with daughter, Margaret May. It is said we are all our own book of history and stories. Today, our library is short one book, but the knowledge and love she gave her family and friends will stay in our hearts. She will be missed greatly by son, Wallace “Porkey” and wife, Carolyn Craig, of East Millinocket; daughter, Maryellen and husband, Richard Shaw, of Millinocket; daughter, Margaret May “Magee” Craig of Laguna Hills, Calif.; daughter, Shirley Jean and husband, Ken Cyr of Millinocket; much loved grandchildren, grandson, David and wife, Carrie Shaw, of Saco; granddaughter, Lisa Jean and husband, Allen Bennett, of Missouri; granddaughter, Tina Craig of Maryland; great-grandson, Craig Bennett; and great-grandson, Gavriel Kay; special friends, Susan D’Alessandro, who would sit and read to her; Charlotte “Chickie” MacArthur, whose weekly outing for lunches was looked for eagerly; Paul Sullivan and Dennis Shores who loved to spoil her. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Ralph Fulton of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Dale and Bruce “Creamy” Shaw. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where the members of the O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, with the Rev.
