MILLINOCKET – Richard A. York Jr., 67, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born Feb. 16, 1940, in Old Town, the son of Richard A. and Theo C. “Tilly” (Severance) York Sr. He was an exceptional basketball player while attending Howland High School, keeping the high scoring record for a good many years after he graduated. Dick served three years in the U.S. Army, two of which were spent in Germany. After his time in the service, Dick worked at the Lincoln News. He then went on to work for Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, for 32 accident free years as a printer and then in the storeroom. Dick retired from the mill in 1999. He loved the coast and many a weekend was spent riding the Maine coast. He loved his reconditioned lobster boat, Tilly, and spent many hours just sitting on her and watching other boaters go by. Dick loved life. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Roberta (Stevens) York of Millinocket; his mother, Theo “Tilly” Clydine of Howland; a son, Travis York and his wife, Meg, of Winterport; a daughter, Bobbi Jean Fowler of Bangor; a granddaughter, Shelby Fowler of Bangor; six stepdaughters, Delores Burrill of Bucksport, Karen Campbell and her husband, Peter, of Winterport, Vicki Leathers of Winterport, Lesli Lowe and her husband, Albert, of Winterport, Terri Thompson and her daughter, Kaylee, of Hampden, and Nicki Baker and her husband, Jerry, of Winterport; four stepgranddaughters, eight stepgrandsons, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his constant canine companions, his yorkies, and his wife. Dick was predeceased by his father, Arnold York Sr. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Pine Tree Cemetery, Hermon.
